Turkish Journal of Botany

The interaction concerning rhizospheric fungi and plants is essential for enhancing plant resilience in the face of abiotic stress conditions. This study investigated the effects of the rhizospheric fungus Aspergillus terreus on maize (Zea mays L.) growth under both drought and waterlogging conditions. Our findings confirmed that inoculation with A. terreus mitigated the adverse effects of drought and waterlogging conditions on maize growth. Plants treated with Aspergillus terreus (A. terreus) exhibited enhanced root and shoot length, fresh and dry weight as well as enhanced chlorophyll content in plants compared to control, under stress-related conditions. Compared to the control group, A. …

Turkish Journal of Botany

Sugar beet is a high-sucrose crop primarily used for sugar production, and it is now gaining attention as a promising source for bioethanol production and cattle feed. This crop is also utilized for the extraction of pectin and the production of molasses. Despite its utilization across a wide range of industries, abiotic and biotic stress factors greatly reduce the productivity of the cash crop sugar beet. In this paper, we focus on the development of biotic stress-resistant sugar beet plants through various classical and biotechnological applications. In recent decades, omics technologies, next-generation sequencing, gene editing/silencing, and overexpression techniques have been …

Turkish Journal of Botany

Green cities comprise a variety of habitats subject to different levels of anthropogenic pressure, ranging from completely unvegetated areas to vast green spaces such as linear parks. In this scenario, cities can support different ecological processes and ecosystem functions, which vary qualitatively and quantitatively between different habitat types along the urbanization gradient. Specifically, green spaces and ruderal plants can support pollination services in urban ecosystems, providing food resources (e.g., nectar, pollen, oil), reproduction supports (copulation sites), and nesting sites for pollinators. As a result, plant species and their floral resources are important for pollinator diversity and the maintenance of the …

Simulation Strategies For Safer Student Medication Administration: A Quality Improvement Project, Rochelle D. Beaver Sep 2025

Simulation Strategies For Safer Student Medication Administration: A Quality Improvement Project, Rochelle D. Beaver

Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects

Medication administration is an essential skill for nurses, but there are few opportunities for students to practice this skill to prepare for clinical practice. Literature shows that best practice to bridge the gap is simulation. The purpose of this quality improvement project is to implement an evidence-based simulation activity for students. The problem is that not all faculty are trained to teach via simulation. The aim of the project is to increase the nursing faculty’s competence in facilitating a medication administration simulation activity focusing on pre-briefing and debriefing utilizing evidence-based standards from International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning. …

Editorial: Molecular Mechanisms Of Ion Channel Activation And Modulation, Meng Cui, Miao Zhang Sep 2025

Editorial: Molecular Mechanisms Of Ion Channel Activation And Modulation, Meng Cui, Miao Zhang

Pharmacy Faculty Articles and Research

"Ion channels are integral membrane proteins that regulate the passage of ions across cell membranes, thereby shaping processes as diverse as neuronal signaling, muscle contraction, and hormone secretion. Channel activation is typically initiated by a stimulus such as voltage, ligand binding, or mechanical stress that induces conformational changes and opens the channel pore. Beyond activation, channels are subject to fine-tuned modulation by a wide range of endogenous and exogenous agents, from lipids and neurotransmitters to pharmacological drugs. Modulators can stabilize the open, closed, or inactivated states, shift ligand affinities, or alter gating kinetics. Dissecting the structural and dynamic basis of …

Human Single-Neuron Activity Is Modulated By Intracranial Theta Burst Stimulation Of The Basolateral Amygdala, Justin M Campbell, Shuo Wang, Lawrence N Eisenman, James Swift, Tao Xie, Peter Brunner, Jon Timothy Willie, Et Al.

2020-Current year OA Pubs

Direct electrical stimulation of the human brain has been used for numerous clinical and scientific applications. At present, however, little is known about how intracranial stimulation affects activity at the microscale. In this study, we recorded intracranial EEG data from a cohort of patients with medically refractory epilepsy as they completed a visual recognition memory task. During the memory task, brief trains of intracranial theta burst stimulation (TBS) were delivered to the basolateral amygdala (BLA). Using simultaneous microelectrode recordings, we isolated neurons in the hippocampus, amygdala, orbitofrontal cortex, and anterior cingulate cortex and tested whether stimulation enhanced or suppressed firing …

Can Predictive And Functional Methods Locate The Dysplastic Hip Joint Center?, Michael Harris, Emma C. Behrman, Keith R. Lohse, Molly C. Shepherd, Bruce A. Macwilliams, Erin M. Mannen

2020-Current year OA Pubs

BACKGROUND: Properly characterizing biomechanics in populations with known hip deformities, such as developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH), requires accurately identifying the hip joint center (HJC). Many studies have assessed the accuracy or repeatability of predictive and functional methods to locate the HJC in normally shaped hips, but not for hips with DDH.

RESEARCH QUESTION: For patients with DDH, which of three common functional and four common predictive HJC methods is most accurate compared to a magnetic-resonance-imaging-based anatomic method?

METHODS: HJC method accuracy was calculated as the resultant vector distance from the anatomic HJCs. Bias was calculated as distance errors …

The participants included six project managers in Mississippi who had an active role in using strategies to increase employee retention. Data were collected using semistructured interviews, organizational documentation, and research statistics. Thematic analysis identified six key strategies: (a) …

Multiple Pathways Of Social Impairment For Youth With Symptoms Of Adhd: A Novel Model Of Serial Mediation, Ewald Michael Wefelmeyer Sep 2025

Multiple Pathways Of Social Impairment For Youth With Symptoms Of Adhd: A Novel Model Of Serial Mediation, Ewald Michael Wefelmeyer

Dissertations (1934 -)

The current study sought to explain the heterogeneity of social impairment among youth with symptoms of ADHD with the goal of potentially improving a clinician's ability to identify and support those children. A novel model of the relationship between the disorder and social impairment was proposed with serial mediators of parental/family functioning and emotion regulation. It was anticipated that a higher level of ADHD symptoms would lead to more impairment among aspects of parental/family functioning, which would predict more emotion dysregulation which would subsequently predict poorer social functioning. Structural Equation Modeling yielded little support for the overall model and no …

Investigating The Role Of Chaperones And Sequestrases In Misfolded Protein Sequestration, Sarah Rose Rolli Sep 2025

Investigating The Role Of Chaperones And Sequestrases In Misfolded Protein Sequestration, Sarah Rose Rolli

Dissertations (1934 -)

Protein homeostasis, or proteostasis, is responsible for a folded and functional proteome and is essential for cell survival. Proteins can misfold during stress or because of mutation. The accumulation of misfolded proteins is observed in many diseases, including Huntington’s disease. Misfolded proteins will clump together into inclusions, which can be sequestered to membrane-less compartments by proteostasis mechanisms. Several proteins, including chaperones, co-chaperones, and other proteins, have been identified as sequestrases that target inclusions and misfolded proteins to different protein quality control (PQC) compartments. The juxtanuclear quality control (JUNQ) compartment forms in the nucleus-vacuole junction in yeast cells, and several soluble …

Is Academia Becoming Démodé — Or Can It Reinvent Itself?, Essraa Nawar

Library Articles and Research

"And yet, in the wider cultural imagination, academia has become, in many ways, démodé. Out of fashion. Out of step. No longer the epicenter of intellectual authority or social innovation that it once was. The challenge before us is whether we allow academia to drift further toward irrelevance, or whether we reinvent it for the generations now walking through our doors."

Grit, A Component Of Resident Well-Being, Nathan W. Olson, Kelly Williamson, Nicholas Hartman, Navneet Cheema, Adriana S. Olson

Journal of Wellness

Introduction: Trainees experiencing burnout, depression, or career dissatisfaction challenge educators and may have patient care consequences. Grit, defined as the “perseverance and passion for long-term goals,” buffers against hopelessness and quantifies an aspect of personality shown to predict fewer career changes. Higher grit has been associated with positive outcomes in physicians, including lower burnout rates. Our objective was to determine the correlation between emergency medicine (EM) resident Short Grit Scale (Grit-S) scores and components of well-being: burnout, a positive depression screen, and career satisfaction.

Methods: This was a prospective, multicenter trial involving ten urban/suburban EM residencies. The subjects …
