The Eat, Sleep, Console Method In The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit: An Integrative Research Review, Kelsey Seigman
The Eat, Sleep, Console Method In The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit: An Integrative Research Review, Kelsey Seigman
International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)
The use of opioids during pregnancy has risen dramatically in the last 25 years, resulting in an increased rate of newborns experiencing neonatal abstinence syndrome (Chyi et al., 2023). The primary assessment tool used to care for these infants has historically been the Finnegan Neonatal Abstinence Scoring System (FNASS). In recent years, the FNASS tool’s subjective nature has turned interests to the novel Eat, Sleep, Console assessment tool (Amin et al., 2023). This integrative research review was conducted by using a modified methodology suggested by Whittemore & Knafle (2005) and seeks to answer the research question, “For neonates of greater …

Baccalaureate Nursing Students' Knowledge Of Trauma-Informed Care And Infertility, Hildreth Eloi, Darlene E. Acorda, Martina Raquel Gallagher
International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)
Background: Globally, 48.5 million couples experience infertility.1 Experiencing infertility and miscarriage is a traumatic experience for many couples.2 Whenever couples engage in the healthcare setting to address issues of infertility, distress, and re-traumatization can occur.3 To provide patient-centered care, the healthcare team, especially nurses, needs to acknowledge infertility as a traumatic experience in reproductive health settings.4 However, there is limited knowledge of how nursing students conceptualize trauma in relation to infertility. This knowledge will be implemented into the Reproductive Health Care course in a pre-licensure program.

Exploring The Latent Growth Trajectory Of Depression In Arthritis Patients, Yoonjung Ji, Wonhee Baek
International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)
Arthritis markedly diminishes the quality of life, compromises independence, and substantially escalates healthcare expenditures [1]. Numerous studies have identified a link between arthritis and depression. A meta-analysis indicated that depression is highly prevalent among individuals with arthritis and is linked to worse outcomes [2]. Additionally, some research suggests that individuals with depression have a higher likelihood of developing arthritis compared to controls [3]. However, there is a lack of research examining how depression progresses over time following an arthritis diagnosis and identifying the factors that influence these changes.
To investigate the trajectory of depression over time in patients diagnosed with …

Socioeconomic inequities divert underrepresented talent from the physician pipeline. Integrating Social Cognitive Career Theory (SCCT), leaky-pipeline diagnostics, and 14 years of mixed-methods research on Florida International University’s pathway program, we present a logic model aligning Goals, Needs, Objectives, Methods, and Evaluation (GNOME). GNOME links diagnosed barriers to SCCT-aligned supports and pre-specified metrics, yielding gains in self-efficacy, application intent, and matriculation. The model offers a practical, cost-effective roadmap for institutions seeking a more equitable medical workforce.

Journal of the Saudi Heart Association
Lung cancer is among the most diagnosed cancers worldwide, and its co-occurrence with coronary heart disease is life-threatening. Osimertinib is the standard treatment for epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutations in advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The addition of pemetrexed and carboplatin increases not only the efficacy but also the cardiotoxicity risk. We report a 59-year-old woman with NSCLC alongside brain, liver, and spleen metastases, who developed cardiovascular events following cancer therapy. With advanced imaging and multidisciplinary intervention, remarkable remission was achieved over two years. Reporting this case contributes to the understanding of its presentation and diagnostic challenges.

Despite their interest in completing advance directives (ADs), persons experiencing homeless-ness (PEH) appear to have fewer surrogate decision-makers and limited opportunities for ad-vance care planning (ACP). Nursing students and faculty, a hospital bioethicist, and social ser-vice agency staff formed a community-academic partnership that helps PEH complete advance directives. This unique service-learning opportunity offers a model for assisting vulnerable pop-ulations with advance care planning. Model effectiveness and limitations are described from each partner’s perspective in their own words.
