Around 32% of the global population are at risk of social exclusion (Cuesta et al., 2024). This has significant impact upon morbidity, mortality and quality of life (Aldridge et al., 2017). In research, these individuals are underserved (NIHR 2024), perceived to be ‘difficult’, ‘hard to reach’ or in need of protection, so their voices and experiences remain unheard. Background: Patient- and family-centered care (PFCC) emphasizes consumer-centered nursing by respecting patients’ and families’ needs, values, and preferences. Implementing PFCC in intensive care units (ICUs) remains challenging, highlighting the need to enhance nurses’ competencies. Therefore, this study aimed to develop and conduct the pilot study of an educational program to improve PFCC competencies for ICU nurses.

A Novel Scaffold-Based Model For Stage Ii Pressure Injury Simulation: Protocol Development And Future Directions In Tissue Engineering, Skyler B. Wrubleski

This study developed a 3D tissue-engineered scaffold to mimic human sacral skin for modeling pressure injuries. The scaffold consisted of a composite hydrogel of sodium alginate, gelatin, and tannic acid, crosslinked with calcium chloride. Swelling tests showed moderate hydration capacity, while wound mimic formation using a custom 3D-printed apparatus produced consistent morphology and dimensions comparable to human dermal tissue. The scaffold maintained structural integrity under prolonged compressive forces, demonstrating viability for pressure injury studies. Future work will incorporate a bilayer model with keratinocytes and fibroblasts and introduce elastin to enhance elasticity and mechanical properties. This approach aims to improve in …

Artificial Intelligence, Age, And Dynamic Ticket Pricing: A Mixed-Methods Study In Professional Sports, Joshua Greer, Nicholas Zoroya

Abstract

This study investigates how age moderates fan perceptions of artificial intelligence (AI) and dynamic ticket pricing (DTP) in professional sports. Using a mixed-method design, data was collected from a self-administered online survey (N = 57) and triangulated with secondary sources, including industry reports and academic literature. Survey participants were divided into four generational cohorts and responses were analyzed across three constructs: perceived fairness, accessibility, and willingness to pay. A one-way ANOVA revealed a statistically significant difference in willingness to pay across age groups, F(3, 53) = 3.41, p = .015, with the most pronounced disparity between the youngest and …

Using feel wheels during interactive read-alouds is one way that teachers can simultaneously support children’s social emotional and vocabulary development in ways that are authentic, humanizing, and culturally responsive. Utilizing mindfulness tools, like the feel wheel, during literacy instruction, works to extend the possibilities for connections between transformative social-emotional learning (SEL) and vocabulary development when exploring students’ own emotions and the emotions of the characters. In this study, Nd: YAG laser at a wavelength of (1064 nm), energies of (300 and 400 mJ), and a pulse repetition rate of (3 Hz) was used to synthesize metallic nanoparticles from iron and zinc individually using a one-step pulsed laser ablation approach, followed by the two-step synthesis of bimetallic nanoparticles. The physical properties of the synthesized nanoparticles were then investigated using UV-visible (UV-Vis), X-ray diffraction (XRD), field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), and energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) techniques. The 2015 Paris Agreement1 established a "Global Goal Adaptation" (GGA), which aims to place climate change adaptation on the same level as mitigation, by developing an adaptation goal alongside the mitigation goal of limiting global temperature increase to 1.5°C.
