Psychiatric Associations With Barriers To Use Of Mental Health Services In Medical Students, E. Cadence Rarity, Nora Newcomb, Aishwarya Vuppala, Jade Brunicardi, Kim Van, Amelia C. Phillips
Journal of Wellness
Introduction: Medical students experience stress, anxiety, and depression at rates greater than those of the general population. Medical students also underutilize mental health services. There exists a need for a comprehensive, multivariate analysis of the reasons medical students do not pursue mental health services, and the undesirable mental health outcomes that are associated with these barriers. This study associates psychiatric phenomena of stress, anxiety, and depression within the context of barriers to use of mental health services in medical students.
Methods: In this cross-sectional study, medical students (N = 128) from the University of South Florida engaged with …

Bay Staters Believe Healey Deserves Re-Election, Oppose Immigration Crackdown In Boston 9/29/2025, Unh Survey Center
All UNH Survey Center Polls
Just over half of Massachusetts residents approve of the job Governor Maura Healey has done and say that she deserves to be re-elected. Many Republican primary voters are largely undecided about the candidate they want to face Healey. In the race for U.S. Senate from Massachusetts, less than half of Bay Staters believe incumbent Ed Markey deserves to be re-elected. Most Massachusetts residents feel safe in Boston, support Boston's immigration policies, and oppose the increased deployment of federal personnel to enforce immigration policies in the city. Majorities support a limit on annual rent increases and Massachusetts officials coordinating with other …

Wills Eye Hospital Papers
AIM: To optimize the real-world applicability of a health economic model estimating the cost-effectiveness of corneal cross-linking for the treatment of keratoconus in the United States.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A previously reported discrete-event simulation (DES) model was adapted to reassess the cost-effectiveness of corneal cross-linking (CXL) from the US payer perspective. The simulation of keratoconus progression, which is a key driver of model outcomes, was remodeled to more accurately reflect the real-world relationship between age and the rate of disease progression. All costs were updated to reflect 2025 values. We simulated 4,000 eyes of 2,000 patients diagnosed with keratoconus to …
Staff Education For Health Care Providers On Improving Health Care Outcomes For Lgbtq+ Youth And Adolescent Patients, Sheila Shafer
Staff Education For Health Care Providers On Improving Health Care Outcomes For Lgbtq+ Youth And Adolescent Patients, Sheila Shafer
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
This project was focused on the significant challenges faced by LGBTQ+ adolescents and young adults, specifically those aged 12 to 25 years, who seek mental health care services. Research indicated that discrimination and stigma against this demographic contribute to disproportionately poorer mental health outcomes, underscoring the urgent need for culturally competent health care delivery. The purpose of this project was to educate professionals on the necessary skills and knowledge about the unique needs of LGBTQ+ patients. The question was the following: Would an educational intervention improve providers’ knowledge and confidence in diagnosing and treating the mental health needs of LGBTQ+ …
Educating Correctional Nurses On The Use Of A Mindfulness Program To Reduce Work Stress, Victoria Ngozi Emelogu
Educating Correctional Nurses On The Use Of A Mindfulness Program To Reduce Work Stress, Victoria Ngozi Emelogu
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Correctional nurses deliver care in environments marked by violent incidents, chronic understaffing, and moral distress. These conditions heighten occupational stress, jeopardize patient safety, and accelerate staff turnover, yet few U.S. jails provide evidence-based training in rapid self-regulation strategies. The purpose of this staff education project was to evaluate whether a 2-week curriculum could increase correctional nurses’ knowledge, attitudes, and self-reported skills (KAS) for on-shift mindfulness use. Pender’s health promotion model framed the intervention, Bloom’s taxonomy and Kirkpatrick’s evaluation model informed learning objectives and outcome levels. Five correctional nurses at a large urban jail completed an anonymous 10‑item KAS survey before …
Implementing Patient Health Questionnaire-9 Screening In Adult Mental Health: A Staff Education Initiative, Precious Nmachi Adaso
Implementing Patient Health Questionnaire-9 Screening In Adult Mental Health: A Staff Education Initiative, Precious Nmachi Adaso
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
This project was a staff education program aimed at the use of the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) as a universal depression screening instrument within a mental health facility. The project was conducted in an urban area of the United States at an outpatient behavioral health facility and was focused on addressing the stagnation in the staff’s correct use of evidence-based measures of depression screening that inhibits the prompt detection and treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD). The practice focused question was: Following participation in a staff education program, will staff demonstrate increased knowledge on depression screening and use of the …

Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) data have revolutionized the management of type 1 diabetes, particularly when integrated with insulin pumps to mitigate clinical events such as hypoglycemia. Recently, there has been growing interest in utilizing CGM devices in clinical studies involving healthy and diabetic populations. However, efficiently exploiting the high temporal resolution of CGM profiles remains a significant challenge. Numerous indices—such as time–in–range metrics and glucose variability measures–have been proposed, but evidence suggests these metrics overlook critical aspects of dynamic glucose homeostasis. As an alternative method, this paper explores the clinical value of glucodensity metrics in capturing glucose dynamics—specifically the speed …

Bromelain-Based Enzymatic Debridement Of A Third-Degree Burn To Skin-Grafted Bowel, Shengqing Wang, Janie Faris, Kareem Abdelfattah, Samuel Mandell, M Victoria Miles
School of Medicine Faculty Publications
Burn injuries over previously grafted tissue present a formidable challenge for excision and debridement, particularly when there are critical underlying structures such as bowel. Enzymatic debridement with the recently approved anacaulase-bcdb, a bromelain-based enzymatic debridement gel (Nexobrid), presents an additional method of burn excision that may be useful in such a situation. This brief report presents the management of a complex third-degree burn over a remotely skin-grafted bowel mass using anacaulase-bcdb gel. This report is written with documented patient consent and approval by the Human Research Protection Program office in compliance with institutional policy. A 52-year-old man presented to our …
