The Consideration Of Two Scalarization Methods For The Multi-Objective Nurse-To-Patient Assignment Problem, Ilgın Acar, Steven E. Butt, Aydın Sipahioğlu, İslam Altın
Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Simulation with Applications
In this research, the application of two scalarization methods, namely the conic scalarization method and the $\varepsilon$-constraint method, is investigated within the context of a multi-objective optimization problem. These methods are used to address the challenge of assigning nurses to patients on a hospital unit during a shift. The two objective functions of this assignment problem are based on patient workload metrics and unit-related travel distance measures. The proposed solution approach demonstrates the ability to generate solutions that eluded the previous mathematical programming techniques that relied on simplistic weightings of conflicting objective functions. In addition, it is found that the …

Dynamics And Optimal Intervention Strategies In A Shigellosis Transmission Model, Mehmet Gümüs, Shewafera Wondimagegnhu Teklu, Kemal Türk
Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Simulation with Applications
This research explores how water treatment contributes to limiting the transmission of Shigellosis, an infection caused by bacteria from the Shigella genus. A mathematical framework is formulated to evaluate the influence of protective strategies and water purification on the spread of the disease. To confirm the model's biological relevance, its well-posedness is investigated. The basic reproduction number $(\mathfrak{R}_0)$, a critical indicator of disease behavior, is derived using the matrix operator method. Findings indicate that if $\mathfrak{R}_01$, the infection persists, with the endemic equilibrium exhibiting local asymptotic stability. A comprehensive cost-effectiveness analysis reveals that combining environmental protection with water treatment represents …

Kimmel Cancer Center Faculty Papers
Human T-cell leukemia virus type 1 (HTLV-1), the first oncogenic human retrovirus, causes adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATLL), an aggressive neoplasm of mature CD4+ T-cells that is incurable in most patients and is associated with a median survival of less than 1 year. HTLV-1 also causes inflammatory disorders, including HTLV-associated myelopathy/tropical spastic paraparesis (HAM/TSP) and uveitis. The estimated lifetime risks of ATLL and HAM/TSP in HTLV-1 carriers are 3-5% and 0.25-1.8%, respectively. Although there is uncertainty about other health effects of HTLV-1, a recent meta-analysis showed an association between HTLV-1 and cardiovascular, cerebrovascular, and metabolic diseases and a 57% increased risk …

Neutrosophic Systems with Applications
The growing issue of electronic waste (e-waste) necessitates management approaches that promote sustainability and resilience while reducing environmental effects, particularly considering global disruptions and pressure on manufacturers to implement extended producer responsibility laws. There is a research gap in our knowledge of the link between sustainability and resilience since most of the literature currently available on e-waste management focuses on either operational efficiency or sustainability. This study proposes multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) methodology for controlling electronic waste requirements management policies to minimize ecological impact and improving resilience and sustainability. We use the EDAS methodology to rank the alternatives. The criteria …

The Lived Experiences Of Mothers Facing Phubbing From Their Adolescent Children, Mye Alexis
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Widespread use of technology, particularly smartphones, introduced new challenges involving parent–adolescent attachment. Although existing literature primarily examines parental phubbing of adolescents, there is a significant gap in research exploring the experiences of mothers who are phubbed by their adolescent children. To address this gap, the central research question guiding this study was: What are the lived experiences of mothers who have been phubbed by their adolescent (ages 14-18) children? Grounded in Bowlby’s attachment theory, this phenomenological qualitative study aimed to deepen understanding of the emotional impacts of phubbing on mothers’ emotional wellbeing, emotional bonding, and mother–adolescent attachment. A homogeneous convenience …

Journal of Bioresource Management
Poultry provides both direct and indirect employment opportunities to individuals. Every farm owner desires a reduced investment with more earnings. Over 50 % of the overall cost of chicken rearing is allocated to feed stuff. Among all feed ingredients, protein sources are the most expensive, yet protein is essential for production and growth. This exorbitant price cannot be sustained by the small-scale farmers. Consequently, contemporary scientists are attempting to substitute the protein supply with black soldier fly in their formulations. This review study examines the advantageous effect of utilizing Black Soldier Fly powder, larvae or oil, as demonstrated in scientific …

The Familiarity Effect In Prioritizing Distant Solutions: A Discrete Choice Experiment On Development Planners In Indonesia, Timothy Pieter Christian Siahaan
The Familiarity Effect In Prioritizing Distant Solutions: A Discrete Choice Experiment On Development Planners In Indonesia, Timothy Pieter Christian Siahaan
BISNIS & BIROKRASI: Jurnal Ilmu Administrasi dan Organisasi
Development planning ideally requires accurate information to translate distant solutions, where actions and impacts are separated by significant delays. However, the attention theory suggests that the attention of planners is constrained by familiarity bias, shaped by organizational procedures and communication channels. This study argues that planners are less likely to prioritize distant solutions due to a stronger sense of perceived self-efficacy. Even when presented with favorable information, decision-makers tend to rely on heuristics that filter out unfamiliar information. Employing a mixed-method approach by combining a discrete choice experiment and qualitative interviews with regional planners in Indonesia, this study discovers that …

With the increasing progress of queer perspectives in the academic setting, there have been calls for LGBTQ+-inclusive teaching practices. In the Philippines, attempts have been implemented to produce curricula and materials that are more gender-responsive and gender-sensitive. However, these initiatives are without their barriers as conservative traditions and sexist ideologies still affect the eradication of gender-based discrimination in the classrooms. To fully grasp these issues, the present study aimed to elicit insights from queer Filipino teachers about their views and perspectives on using queer pedagogy in their classrooms. With these pedagogical choices, the study tried to understand the queering process …
Faith-Based Transnationalism: Conceptualizing The Role Of Religion In Transnational Families, Evangeline Katigbak-Montoya
Faith-Based Transnationalism: Conceptualizing The Role Of Religion In Transnational Families, Evangeline Katigbak-Montoya
Asia-Pacific Social Science Review
This research brief introduces the concept of “faith-based transnationalism,” or the cross-border travels of religious practices, beliefs, identities, and moralities that not only connect migrants and their left-behind families but also lead to the reconstitution of relationships, spirituality, and landscapes. Faith-based transnationalism is an important analytical framework in the study of the intersections of geographies of religion/faith and transnational migration. This is crucial in contemporary times given the unabated and continuing flows of migrants across international borders, with implications on reshaping identities, consocialities, and places.
