Exploring Children's And Their Parents' Experiences In Urgent Treatment Centres: A Qualitative Study Protocol, Danielle Edge, Sarah Neill, Lucy Bray, Martha Paisi
School of Nursing and Midwifery
BackgroundYoung children are frequent users of urgent and emergency care (UEC) services (Blair et al., 2025). The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC, 1989) highlights children’s rights to healthcare (Article 24), to express their views (Article 12), and to receive information to support participation (Article 13). Existing research in UEC has primarily focused on parental decision-making and help-seeking behaviours when accessing care (Neill et al., 2016). While there is increasing evidence on children’s experiences and involvement in their healthcare, there is limited research which has examined children’s experiences in UTCs and even less which has engaged …

Weight Loss And A Shunt On “Off”: An Odd Case Of Overshunting In An Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension Patient Illustrative Case, Thomas Hamre, Ashley Ricciardelli, Alex Flores, Ashwin Viswanathan
Faculty, Staff and Students Publications
Background: CSF diversion with ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunts is a common treatment for idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH). Rarely, overshunting can occur. Diagnosing and managing overshunting in an IIH patient with a shunt can be challenging. The authors present a unique etiology of overshunting successfully treated with shunt ligation.
Observations: A 48-year-old female with IIH who had undergone VP shunt placement with a programmable Certas valve presented with symptoms concerning for low-pressure headaches following a 25-kg weight loss. Intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring along with an inpatient headache diary facilitated the diagnosis of intracranial hypotension secondary to CSF overdrainage through the shunt. Following …

Purpose: Fenestrated stent-grafts with proximal bare-metal fixation stent (BMFS) may provide better rotational movement to facilitate vessel catheterization, but novel designs with covered fixation stents (CFSs) have been increasingly utilized with lower profile fabric. This study aimed to evaluate procedural metrics and outcomes of fenestrated endovascular repair (FEVAR) using BMFS and CFS devices.
Methods: Clinical data of 502 consecutive patients enrolled in a prospective, non-randomized investigational device exemption (IDE) study were reviewed. Patients with 4-vessel fenestrated stent-grafts with BMFS or CFS for treatment of complex abdominal aortic aneurysms (CAAAs) and Extent IV thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms (TAAAs) were included. Patients with …

Osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM) is a hands-on approach utilized by physicians to diagnose, treat, and prevent various conditions through the application of muscle manipulation techniques. It has been applied in managing chronic musculoskeletal (MSK) pain, headaches, migraines, Parkinsonian gait, and psychological conditions such as stress, anxiety, and depression. In our narrative review, we aim to integrate both direct clinical studies of OMM in cerebral palsy (CP) and supportive literature on mechanisms and related conditions. A comprehensive literature search was conducted utilizing PubMed and Google Scholar to identify relevant studies on OMM in CP management. Search strategies were intentionally broad to …

Lactic acid is the most abundant organic weak acid in the healthy human vagina and plays a pivotal role in maintaining an acidic vaginal environment protective against exogenous bacteria and viruses. However, in dysbiotic or non-optimal vaginal environments, significantly decreased concentrations of lactobacilli result in reduced lactic acid production, increased vaginal pH, and enhanced risk of sexually transmitted infections (including human immunodeficiency virus), and bacterial vaginosis. Various gel-based products are marketed to administer lactic acid vaginally for the treatment of bacterial vaginosis and non-hormonal contraception, and there is interest in developing vaginal ring products for sustained/controlled release of lactic acid. …

The grit theory emphasizes that persistence and passion for pursuing long-term goals are more important for success than innate talent alone. The purpose of this research was to assess students' grit levels and examine how they relate to academic performance. The study employed a quantitative correlational design to systematically measure numerical data, which helps identify patterns and relationships among various influencing factors. Participants included 136 students (75 English students and 61 Mathematics students). The research process involved: 1) collecting data via a questionnaire, 2) cleaning the data to remove outliers, 3) analyzing the data with SPSS, and 4) interpreting the …

Jurnal Pendidikan: Teori, Penelitian, dan Pengembangan
A notable gap persists in the educational literature regarding the optimization of 21st century competencies, such as critical thinking, communication, and collaboration, when tailored to students' distinct cognitive styles. This study addresses this lacuna by investigating the efficacy of a novel pedagogical tool, Figma-based Contextual Teaching and Learning Media (Figma-CTLLM), for enhancing these skills, a subject that has not been previously examined. The research aims to optimize critical thinking, communication, and collaboration skills based on reflective and impulsive cognitive styles by implementing Figma-CTLLM in Poaceae diversity learning. The study employs a descriptive quantitative research design with a sample of 26 …

Identification Of Green Competency Needs In Vocational Education Curriculum Development Based On Simple Additive Weighting, Muh Abdul Latif, Isma Widiaty, Ade Gafar Abdullah
Jurnal Pendidikan: Teori, Penelitian, dan Pengembangan
Global environmental sustainability issues have driven the transformation of vocational education to integrate green competencies that are relevant to the needs of the green industry. This study aims to identify the need for green competencies in the development of vocational education curriculum using the Simple Additive Weighting (SAW) method. This method helps in decision making from various different perspectives (such as teachers, students and industry) so that it needs to be generalized. This SAW method produces a ranking of competency elements based on the level of importance as a recommendation in developing a vocational education curriculum based on green competencies …

Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research
Kaffir lime peel waste (Citrus hystrix) has antioxidant effects that have the potential to protect the skin from exposure to UV-A and UV-B rays, as well as moisturize the skin. This study aims to determine the effect of increasing the concentration of condensed extract of kaffir lime fruit peel on its effectiveness as an antioxidant, sunscreen activity, and moisturizer. The condensed extract was obtained by maceration using 96% ethanol. In this study, we tested hydrophilic gels consisting of 4 extract concentrations in their formula: F1 (7.5%), F2 (10%), F3 (15%), and F4 (20%). The research phase begins with …

The rapid digital transformation in education has exacerbated persistent gaps in accessibility, inclusion, and engagement, particularly within STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) disciplines. A critical disconnect exists between the ubiquitous use of digital tools and the comprehension of their underlying principles. This research addresses this gap by developing and studying innovative, hands-on pedagogical strategies designed to democratize technological knowledge. Our project is centered on the design, implementation, and analysis of "The Island of Automatic Sounds" (LISA.26), an artistic sound installation conceived as an interactive "musical island." This environment enables children and families to explore and cocreate music through bodily …
