Background Acetabular fractures involving the posterior wall remain challenging to treat, with no gold standard fixation method established. We describe a novel technique using Synthes 2.7 mm non-locking plates originally designed for the midfoot.
Methods Retrospective review of 120 patients with posterior wall acetabular fractures treated with H-plates at a Level-1 trauma center (2012–2021). Patient demographics, operative parameters, and outcomes were analyzed.
Results The cohort was predominantly male (67.5%) with motor vehicle collisions as the primary mechanism (89.1%). Forty-seven patients (39.1%) received isolated H-plate fixation. Operative time was significantly shorter with isolated H-plates versus additional hardware (2.25 ± 0.60 vs …

Opportunities To Improve Continuity In Medicines Management For Aboriginal And Torres Strait Islander People Accessing Care In South Australian Hospitals: Coverage, Quality, Monitoring And Accountability, Annabelle Cranwell, Cheyne Sullivan, Kezia Daniel, Erik Cornelisse, Brianna Kinnear
Journal of the Australian Indigenous HealthInfoNet
This paper proposes that hospital admissions, which are traditionally considered high risk transitions, can be opportunities to strengthen continuity in medicines management (CMM) for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients and across the healthcare system. There are four key areas of focus in this paper including CMM coverage, CMM quality, health system monitoring of CMM, and health system accountability for CMM to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities. These areas for improvement are justified by the National Agreement on Closing the Gap (The National Agreement), the Guiding Principles to Achieving continuity in medication management, and Continuity in Medication …

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infection worldwide, impacting both males and females. In men, HPV causes genital warts, more than 90% of anal cancers, and 60% of oropharyngeal cancers. Given that one in three men are infected with HPV worldwide, there is a pressing need for enhanced public health strategies focusing on prevention. This comprehensive narrative review presents an overview of HPV in men, key risk factors, and primary prevention in men. The most effective preventive measure for HPV in males is vaccination. Males at high risk for HPV include those who smoke, have human immunodeficiency …

Biennial Convention (CONV)
The critical thinking (CT) ability of nurses directly impacts patient safety.1 CT is enhanced by emotional intelligence (EI).1 EI is the ability to manage, understand, and feel one’s emotions and the emotions of others.2 Integral to developing EI is mindfulness (MF).3 Since new nurses are at high risk for patient care errors,4 it is important to embed strategies that enhance high-level CT skills, such as EI and MF in prelicensure nursing programs.5 Yet, nursing curricula often does not include such strategies.6 Strategies that develop EI and MF include reflective journaling and mindfulness training. …

Enhancing Patient And Team Member Safety: Classroom To Clinical Integration For Nursing Students, Yvonne Joseph, Asha Roy
Biennial Convention (CONV)
Patient safety is a prevalent term used in healthcare. This commitment is made each time we care for a patient. We must look at bridging the gap between academia and the clinical setting to keep this promise. Academia focuses on theoretical foundations, ethical aspects, and critical thinking. The clinical aspect focuses on patient care, inclusive of hands-on skills, communication, and critical thinking. All are crucial to the overall development of our students and patient safety. What else is essential to patient safety? A student's self-care, we need to respect our bodies. The phrase, “If you don’t care for yourself, you …

The Psychology Of Telework, Emily K. Lane
Dissertations
The growth of telework has reshaped the modern workplace, changing how employees experience connection, fairness, and satisfaction. This dissertation examined the psychological dynamics of teleworking by exploring how the extent of remote work influences job satisfaction through feelings of professional isolation. It also investigated how perceptions of procedural, informational, and interpersonal justice, as well as employee choice and telework normativeness, shape these relationships. Grounded in organizational justice theory (Colquitt, 2001), the study used a two-wave, pseudo-cross-sectional survey of 506 teleworkers. Results indicated that professional isolation did not mediate the relationship between telework extent and job satisfaction when fairness perceptions were …

Biology
To the Editor: Pulmonary veno-occlusive disease (PVOD) is a rare, severe group 1 pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) subtype with poor survival (1). PAH-targeted vasodilators can cause life-threatening pulmonary edema in PVOD, underscoring the need for diagnostic tools to distinguish it from other PAH subtypes (1). In patients and mitomycin C–induced (MMC-induced) model animals, aberrant activation of integrated stress response (ISR) via protein kinase R (PKR) drives cardiovascular phenotypes of PVOD (2–4). Inhibition of the PKR-ISR axis, using either the PKR inhibitor C16 or the ISR inhibitor ISRIB, reverses PVOD phenotypes (2–4). Because GDF15 is a cytokine induced by the ISR …
Staff Education On Understanding Nurse Burnout, Kathlyn Tracy Mcglynn
Staff Education On Understanding Nurse Burnout, Kathlyn Tracy Mcglynn
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Summary This Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project was a staff education program on nurse burnout, which remains a pressing issue in healthcare. Burnout is marked by emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and a diminished sense of personal achievement. Addressing burnout within the nursing profession is important because burnout leads to job dissatisfaction, absenteeism, and turnover. The project was guided by two practice-focused questions: Will there be a change in knowledge from pre- to posttest after participating in an educational program on nurse burnout? Will the objectives of the educational program be met relative to the curriculum presented? Therefore, the purpose of …

Experiences Of Baccalaureate Prepared Nurses On Their Transition To Novice Faculty Members, Theresa Jade Lombardo
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The shortage of qualified nursing faculty in Canada threatens the ability to educate sufficient numbers of nurses to meet healthcare demands. Despite this, limited research explores how baccalaureate-prepared nurses experience the transition into nursing faculty roles. The purpose of this qualitative study, guided by Schoening’s nurse educator transition model, was to explore the experiences of baccalaureate prepared nurses on the transition to novice nurse faculty members teaching in 2-year diploma prepared nursing programs in Northwestern Ontario. Five semi-structured interviews were conducted with baccalaureate-prepared novice nursing faculty members, analyzed, and transcribed using Zoom. Data were coded and analyzed using Saldana’s first …

Incivility Experienced By Males In Nursing Education, Christopher S. Hale
MUSC Theses and Dissertations
Background: Nursing shortages are exacerbated by unhealthy learning environments. Men remain underrepresented among nursing students and faculty, yet their experiences of incivility are rarely examined.
Purpose: Guided by Clark’s Model of Civility in Nursing Education, this dissertation explored how male nursing students and educators in U.S. prelicensure programs experience incivility and how these patterns inform strategies to promote civility and retention.
Methods: This compendium includes (a) an integrative review of nursing faculty mistreatment using Whittemore and Knafl’s method; (b) a cross-sectional survey of male nursing educators and students using the Incivility in Nursing Education–Revised (INE-R) to estimate the prevalence and …

Background
Maternal and child undernutrition remains a major global health concern despite modest progress. Accelerating reductions in stunting and wasting will require increased investments in nutrition-sensitive interventions, which target nutrition impacts outside of the healthcare setting. This review examines the effects of four types of nutrition-sensitive interventions —cash/food transfers, nutrition-sensitive agriculture, water/sanitation/hygiene, and school nutrition— on maternal and child nutrition outcomes and dietary diversity.
Methods
We synthesized the evidence using an initial broad search and synthesis for nutrition-sensitive interventions, followed by targeted searches and syntheses for specific interventions and nutrition outcomes. Meta-analyses were performed to evaluate the impacts of cash …
Weather Shocks And Sectoral Labour Reallocation: Evidence From The European Regions, Federico Zilia, Paolo Nota, Alessandro Olper
Weather Shocks And Sectoral Labour Reallocation: Evidence From The European Regions, Federico Zilia, Paolo Nota, Alessandro Olper
Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei Working Papers
This paper examines how weather variability influences inter-sectoral labour reallocation and sectoral value-added (GVA) growth across 238 European regional units (NUTS2 level) from 1980 to 2022. Leveraging this large and granular dataset, we employ flexible functional forms within a fixed-effects panel framework, where the impact of weather shocks is conditional on long-term climate. Unlike previous empirical research in climate economics, which primarily focused on inter-annual variations in average temperature, this study emphasizes the significant role of daily temperature variability. Temperature variability is particularly critical in warmer regions with low seasonal variability, which are more vulnerable to sudden temperature shifts or …

Interview No. 1798, Alvaro Sauza
Combined Interviews
This oral history interview was conducted with Alvaro Sauza, age 81, a pastor, migrant minister, engineer, and founder of Adelante Naturopathic Center. Born in Monterrey, Mexico, he recounted his childhood faith, his family’s early connection to Adventism, and the spiritual calling that led him to migrate to the United States. He described discovering his hearing impairment while attempting to study English in seminary, which made learning the language nearly impossible and shaped the rest of his ministry. Despite speaking almost exclusively Spanish and navigating daily life with only a few English words, he built a long, border-centered pastoral career, preaching …
