Purification Of Water By Plant Extracts And Green Biosynthesized Agnp Of Syzygium Aromaticum, Seham Abdel-Shafi, Mostafa I. Abdelglil, Saida Amer, Sobhy El Sawy Elsilk, Khaled Ali, Mohamed F Ghaly

Al-Farahidi Biomedical Journal

The drinking water quality must meet both the WHO guidelines and Egyptian standards. This ensures public health and the suitability of water for different uses. The purification of water by biosynthesized silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) Syzygium aromaticum (Clove) is an eco-friendly approach where the clove extract acts as a reducing and stabilizing agent to create AgNPs through a “green synthesis” method. The AgNPs, when combined with the extract, show antimicrobial activities and kill the pathogenic bacteria in water. The water pollution include Staphylococcus, Pseudomonas, Salmonella, Acinetobacter, Flavobacterium, Clostridium, Vibrio and E. coli. In vitro experiments showed inhibition of Staphylococcus spp. …

Improving Road Safety Through Multimodal Deep Learning For Driver Drowsiness Detection, Hadel A. Hussain, Mohammed A. Subhi, Ahmed S. Al Tmeme, Ahmed D. Radhi, Marwan Ali Albahar

Iraqi Journal for Computer Science and Mathematics

One of the most common causes of road accidents globally is driver drowsiness and it needs solutions that are reliable and can be applicable in numerous real-life situations. We present this paper with the aim of developing a deep-learning system that is capable of reliably detecting drowsiness in diverse and varied conditions across different drivers, environments, and sensor types. Our system is known as Multimodal Attention Network (MMAN), which combines information of eye and head movement, heart-rate and breathing pattern, and vehicle-dynamics signal. MMAN has a gradient-reversal layer that enables the layer to be domain-adaptive such that it does not …

Deep Learning-Based Fog-Cloud Approach Intrusion Detection System In Iomt, Yahya Rbah, Mohammed Mahfoudi, Mohammed Fattah, Younes Balboul, Said Mazer, Moulhime Elbekkali

Iraqi Journal for Computer Science and Mathematics

The Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) creates an interconnected environment linking humans, devices, sensors, and systems, enhancing healthcare services through advanced technologies. Nonetheless, these IoMT devices are susceptible to cyberattacks, which can endanger patient safety and healthcare services. To identify and mitigate cyberattacks in IoMT, techniques such as threat intelligence, log monitoring, and intrusion detection systems are employed. As attackers evolve their strategies, there is a growing trend towards leveraging artificial intelligence to achieve more predictive and accurate attack detection. Since IoMT devices are inherently low-power, they require minimal computing resources. Existing intrusion detection systems are generally trained in the …

Autonomous Causal Inference Using Artificial Intelligence Agents, Teginder Singh, Ramakrishnan Neelakandan, Bakul Patel, Justin Chen, Kiran Dattani, Sean Hamill, Jacob Van Bochove

Defensive Publications Series

Post-market drug-safety procedures, known as pharmacovigilance, require a team of skilled physicians or epidemiologists to manually investigate each adverse event. This disclosure describes artificial intelligence (AI) agent-based, cloud computing techniques that automate the end-to-end cognitive workflow of investigating potential adverse drug events (ADEs). Moving beyond current techniques, which only perform statistical signal detection, the described techniques enable the determination of biological causality. Upon receiving a statistical signal of an adverse event, plausible biological hypotheses that can explain the signal are autonomously generated. A set of specialized software agents are dispatched to forage for evidence across disparate data sources (real-world evidence …

Exploring The Graduate Research Assistant Experience: Perspectives Of Nursing Phd Students, Caden Mcintire, Mitzi Pestaner, Linda Bolin

Biennial Convention (CONV)

This research project studied nursing PhD students at East Carolina University’s College of Nursing. These students have the opportunity to serve as graduate research assistants (GRAs) throughout their enrollment in the program. GRAs work with faculty on various research projects, including transcription services, recruitment, and data analysis. Given that less than 1% of nurses hold a PhD in nursing and that many who enroll do not graduate, evaluating the perspectives of current and former GRAs can provide valuable insights into our research question: How does serving as a GRA impact PhD nursing students’ academic progress and career trajectories? Answering this …

Meaningful Work, Lincoln N. Bay Dec 2025

Meaningful Work, Lincoln N. Bay

Undergraduate Honors Theses

I study the relationship that preferences for meaningful work—work that provides utility through more than just income—have with wages and time spent working in a variety of scenarios by developing, calibrating, and validating a Roy-inspired structural model of occupational choice where heterogeneous households choose to provide standard and "meaningful" work, where each type of labor has a distinct wage. Within the framework of the model, I find that meaningful work is associated with lower wages and higher hours; that in response to exogenous transfers, households will work less overall but spend more time on meaningful work; that policies that mandate …

Healthcare Leaders’ Effective Strategies For Shaping Organizational Culture, Samuel H. Zoker Dec 2025

Healthcare Leaders’ Effective Strategies For Shaping Organizational Culture, Samuel H. Zoker

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Some leaders in healthcare organizations lack effective leadership strategies and practices to influence and shape organizational culture, leading to inconsistent cultural values and behaviors that undermine organizational effectiveness and employee engagement. Grounded in transformational leadership theory, the purpose of this qualitative pragmatic inquiry was to explore strategies healthcare leaders use to shape organizational culture and strengthen employee engagement. Using purposive sampling, seven healthcare leaders with three or more years of experience were recruited from a medical institution. Data were collected through semistructured interviews using a protocol refined with the IPR method. Using reflective thematic analysis, five themes emerged: (a) employee-engagement …

Examining Emotional Intelligence Strategies Of Human Resource Administrators For Women’S Leadership In Healthcare, Selenda Johnson

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Gender-based distinctions between leaders create differences in leadership methods that reshape their choices and teamwork approaches. Human Resource Administrators are concerned with how the lack of organizational support for Emotional Intelligence (EI) in female leaders influences them to leave, potentially leading to increased organizational costs. Grounded in Emotional Intelligence theory, the purpose of this qualitative pragmatic study was to explore EI strategies used by healthcare administrators in the Southeastern United States to increase female leadership retention in their organizations. The participants were 6 HR administrators with at least 2 years of experience from healthcare organizations who successfully implemented EI strategies …

The Under-Prosecution Of White-Collar Crime, Joseph Whalen Dec 2025

The Under-Prosecution Of White-Collar Crime, Joseph Whalen

Honors Program

White-collar crime comprises nonviolent, financially motivated offenses by individuals and corporate entities. The social costs are immense, yet the prosecution of such crimes is comparatively small compared to other forms of non-violent crime, often resolving with opaque settlements rather than prosecution. This study examines why under-prosecution is so prevalent in white-collar crime, how it undermines democratic trust, and what reforms could be implemented to improve accountability. Under-prosecution will be operationalized through a mixed-methods design, accounting for the most observable proxies. First, the share of filings involving white-collar offenses; second, the prevalence of deferred or non-prosecution agreements (hereinafter referred to as …

Oncology Articles

Interactions between acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and the bone marrow microenvironment (BMME) are critical to leukemia progression and chemoresistance. In the solid tumor microenvironment, altered metabolite levels contribute to cancer progression. We performed a metabolomic analysis of AML patient bone marrow serum, revealing increased metabolites compared to age- and sex-matched controls. The most highly elevated metabolite in the AML BMME was lactate. Lactate signaling in solid tumors induces immunosuppressive tumor-associated macrophages and correlates with poor prognosis. This has not yet been studied in the leukemic BMME. Herein, we describe the role of lactate in the polarization of leukemia-associated macrophages (LAMs). …

Assessing Readiness For Point-Of-Care Ultrasound Implemenatation In A Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Stacy Lynn Brunquist

Student Projects for Graduate Degrees

Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) is an emerging diagnostic tool in neonatal care, yet widespread use in NICUs remains limited by provider training, confidence and organizational readiness. The purpose of this evidence-based practice project was to evaluate whether a brief POCUS educational intervention improved NICU provider readiness for adoption. Using a pre/post design, NICU providers at a regional tertiary NICU in Alaska completed the POCUS Readiness and Adoption Survey (PRAS) immediately before and after a structured 45-minute POCUS orientation presentation. The PRAS measured six domains: knowledge, attitudes, change efficacy, organizational support, intent to adopt, and perceived barriers. Twelve providers completed both surveys. …
