Method Development And Optimization For The Detection Of Synthetic Cannabinoids In Hair Using Lc-Msms, Linda K. Obeng Dec 2025

Method Development And Optimization For The Detection Of Synthetic Cannabinoids In Hair Using Lc-Msms, Linda K. Obeng

Student Theses

Synthetic cannabinoids represent one of the most prevalent and high-risk classes of New Psychoactive Substances (NPS), continuously evolving in structure and potency. Their widespread presence in seized materials and toxicology casework underscores the growing need for reliable analytical methods capable of detecting these compounds in biological matrices. Hair offers several advantages for drug testing, including a long detection window, minimal invasiveness, and resistance to adulteration; however, detecting synthetic cannabinoids in hair remains challenging due to their low incorporation levels and structural diversity. This study focuses on the method development and optimization of an LC-MS/MS technique for the detection of selected …

Soil Fertility Forecasting With Neutrosophic-Based Uncertainty Management, Franklin Parrales-Bravo, Roberto Tolozano-Benites, Dayron Rumbaut-Rangel

Neutrosophic Sets and Systems

This study presents a machine learning framework that combines Random Forest classification with neutrosophic logic to predict soil fertility from 16 physicochemical properties. The model achieves robust classification accuracy (95%) while introducing a novel uncertainty quantification mechanism through neutrosophic truth (T ), indeterminacy (I) and falsity (F ) values derived from prediction probabilities, assigning high-confidence (T = 0.9) to probabilities ≥0.9, indeterminacy (I = 0.3) to borderline cases (0.5≤p

Designing Optimal Routes For Mobile Prenatal Care Clinics Using Neutrosophic Cognitive Maps, Mónica Gabriela Chachalo Sandoval, Evelyn Paulina Chacha Ochoa Dec 2025

Designing Optimal Routes For Mobile Prenatal Care Clinics Using Neutrosophic Cognitive Maps, Mónica Gabriela Chachalo Sandoval, Evelyn Paulina Chacha Ochoa

Neutrosophic Sets and Systems

This manuscript examines the routing of mobile prenatal clinics in Ecuador, focusing on maternal and infant health in vulnerable, hard-to-reach areas. This assessment is significant because even with new developments geographically expanding access to mobile prenatal clinics, there remain accessibility gaps for vulnerable women located in hard-to-reach, topographic regions where it's uncertain if they truly need services or can assess whether they can travel to a clinic. While previous studies sought to assess the potential for newly mobile units and coverage, few studies have been found to assess new routes through accessibility uncertainty and villages with varying demand for access …

Cross-Country Differences In Adolescent Dietary Patterns And Body Mass Index: Spain And The United States, Rosa I. Chavez Jimenez

Honors Scholar Theses

In 2019, NCDs accounted for 38.8% of total global deaths in adolescents aged 10-24, and in 2024, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported that over 390 million youth were overweight or obese worldwide, highlighting the urgency of addressing poor nutrition and sedentary behaviors early in life. There is an extensive amount of research suggesting that the Mediterranean Diet (MD) is related to lowering NCDs and its risk factors. Thus, the present study explored cross-country differences in dietary patterns and Body Mass Index (BMI) between youth in Spain and the United States (US), two countries with contrasting dietary traditions: the Mediterranean …

Stability Analysis Of Thermohaline Convection With A Time-Varying Shear Flow Using The Lyapunov Method, Kalin Kochnev Dec 2025

Stability Analysis Of Thermohaline Convection With A Time-Varying Shear Flow Using The Lyapunov Method, Kalin Kochnev

Honors Scholar Theses

This work applies the Lyapunov method to identify instabilities and compute the growth rate of a linear time-varying system. The linear system studied describes cold fresh water on top of hot salty water with a periodically time-varying background shear flow. A time-dependent weighting matrix is employed to construct a Lyapunov function candidate. The resulting linear matrix inequalities are discretized in time using the forward Euler method. As the number of temporal discretization points increases, the growth rate predicted by the Lyapunov method or Floquet theory, used for comparison, will converge to the same value obtained from numerical simulations. Furthermore, the …

Health Services and Informatics Research

Introduction:

Prior research links maternal smartphone use to reduced sensitivity and responsiveness to infant cues, but emerging evidence suggests that mothers' perceptions of their smartphone use - such as feelings of empowerment or distress - may also shape the quality of mother-infant interactions. This study examined how both objective and perceived smartphone use related to mother-infant interaction quality in naturalistic settings.

Method:

Participants were 147 mother-infant dyads from a longitudinal study of smartphone use and infant development. When infants were 2 months old, mothers completed 5 days of ecological momentary assessment (EMA), reporting time spent with their infant, perceived smartphone-related …

Undergraduate Honors Theses

In this paper, I examine the effect of English-language fluency on immigrant experiences and access to integration or inclusion, using Utah as a case study. I seek to answer the following research questions: does language or region of origin matter in integrating into a new country and learning a new language? Is this effect still relevant in a context like Utah where it is easier to find native-born residents who speak one’s first language? And how does English language ability and the language barrier impact the lives of Asian and Latina immigrants living in Utah? I draw upon 34 in-depth …

Abstract This Doctor of Nursing Practice project involved the development and quality appraisal of a clinical practice guideline (CPG) for early depression screening in adults with opioid use disorder (OUD), addressing the absence of standardized, evidence-based screening protocols in addiction treatment settings. Guided by the practice-focused question of whether existing evidence supports the development and evaluation of such a guideline using the Appraisal of Guidelines for Research and Evaluation II (AGREE II) instrument, a systematic synthesis of 35 research articles was conducted, with 15 high-level studies informing guideline development. A multidisciplinary panel of four experts evaluated the CPG using the …

Analysis Of Leakage In Nearshore Pipelines Using Fitness For Service Method To Ensure Mechanical Integrity Based On Api-579 Level 3, Elriandri Elriandri, Dedi Priadi Dec 2025

Analysis Of Leakage In Nearshore Pipelines Using Fitness For Service Method To Ensure Mechanical Integrity Based On Api-579 Level 3, Elriandri Elriandri, Dedi Priadi

Journal of Materials Exploration and Findings

The Fitness for Service (FFS) analysis is performed as a quantitative assessment to evaluate the integrity condition of a pipeline. Essentially, FFS assessment helps determine whether equipment components can operate safely despite existing deficiencies. This evaluation is carried out using the Finite Element Method (FEM). In the case of an underwater pipeline that experiences leak due to anchor pull at the flange connection, it undergoes plastic deformation and is lifted approximately 1 meter. As a mitigation step, inspection and repairs have been carried out by the company. Subsequently, modeling is performed to reconstruct the deformation process of the pipeline. Then, …

Multicriteria Prioritization Of Geospatial Data Sources Using The Neutrosophic Hierarchical Analytic Process In Spatial Ontologies, Manuel Enrique Puebla Martínez Dec 2025

Multicriteria Prioritization Of Geospatial Data Sources Using The Neutrosophic Hierarchical Analytic Process In Spatial Ontologies, Manuel Enrique Puebla Martínez

Neutrosophic Sets and Systems

The need for an automatic fusion of heterogeneous, generally untrustworthy geospatial sources into spatial ontologies necessitates prioritization when conflicts arise or lower qualities emerge. Unfortunately, most existing literature does not offer systematic, evaluative, analytical criteria for determining the trustworthiness and polyhedral quality of such sources, which, in turn, causes quality deficiencies in spatial relations of the final product. Here we offer a methodology based on the Neutrosophic Hierarchical Analytic Process to derive the aforementioned prioritization including considerations such as geometric accuracy, existence and accessibility of metadata, frequency of updates, and topological correctness. A calibrated, reliability-testing approach was applied to two …

Scientific production is a key performance indicator in higher education, which has motivated the search for factors that may influence its development. This study aims to analyze the impact of intellectual capital and organizational climate on scientific production at the National Intercultural University of the Amazon in Peru. Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) is used, with a sample consisting of 90 professors. Professors were surveyed using the neutrosophic 2-tuple linguistics model. The neutrosophic 2-tuple linguistic method allows teachers to express their opinions linguistically, which is more appropriate in complex decision-making situations. This method maintains accuracy in aggregations. Furthermore, …

A Neutrosophic Random Forest Approach For Preeclamptic Risk Prediction With Uncertainty Quantification, Franklin Parrales-Bravo, Rosangela Caicedo-Quiroz, Lorenzo Cevallos-Torres, Leonel Vasquez-Cevallos, Dayron Rumbaut-Rangel Dec 2025

A Neutrosophic Random Forest Approach For Preeclamptic Risk Prediction With Uncertainty Quantification, Franklin Parrales-Bravo, Rosangela Caicedo-Quiroz, Lorenzo Cevallos-Torres, Leonel Vasquez-Cevallos, Dayron Rumbaut-Rangel

Neutrosophic Sets and Systems

This study presents a novel integration of Random Forest with neutrosophic logic to improve preeclampsia risk prediction while quantifying prediction uncertainty. Using clinical data from 352 patients, the model achieved 72.73% accuracy with high sensitivity (0.898) in identifying control cases, though with lower specificity (0.235) for preeclampsia detection. Key predictors identified were birthweight and hypertension his- tory, aligning with clinical knowledge. The neutrosophic framework successfully categorized predictions into truth (T), indeterminacy (I), and falsity (F) components, revealing that 90% confidence predictions showed T = 0.9 while uncertain cases (0.5 ≤ p < 0.9) demonstrated elevated indeterminacy (I = 0.3). The main contributions include: 1) an interpretable uncertainty quantification method for clinical predictions, 2) validation of key risk factors through feature importance analysis, and 3) a practical framework for identifying cases requiring additional clinical evaluation. This approach demonstrates significant potential for enhancing decision-making in maternal healthcare.

Neutrosophic Plithogenic Hypotheses On Bacterial Resistance To Conventional And Laser-Assisted Treatments, Emma Arroyo Lalama, Edison Haro Pujos Dec 2025

Neutrosophic Plithogenic Hypotheses On Bacterial Resistance To Conventional And Laser-Assisted Treatments, Emma Arroyo Lalama, Edison Haro Pujos

Neutrosophic Sets and Systems

Enterococcus faecalis is a common endodontic pathogen that causes unsuccessful treatments because standard methods of debridement cannot remove it from the root canal system. Methods of debridement are effective relative to debriding multifactorial bacterial biofilms in apical pathogens. Therefore, neutrosophic plithogenic hypotheses are proposed to measure the uncertainty and variability of the bacterial response. Therefore, this work attempted to determine the impact of laser treatment (diode and Er:YAG) as an adjunct agent relative to and in conjunction with traditional irrigants in the reduction of E. faecalis. The diode and Er:YAG laser support increased disinfection efficacy over standard irrigants as they …

Neutrosophic Sets and Systems

This dissertation seeks to determine if criminal suspension—per Article 651.3 of National Criminal Code (COIP)—for domestic violence offenders in Ecuador actually reduces recidivism through effective rehabilitation. This study is significant for comprehension of offender mentality and subsequent ability to accept criminal punishment to reduce recidivism for prolonged victim safety and better acts of authority in a country where domestic violence is still a major social concern. While the existing literature has studied aspects of restorative justice, very few articles have explored the predicating factors of recidivism and the lack of judicial observation and databases due to a neoteric nature and …

Identification Of Critical Pollution Factors In The Chibunga River Using Indetermsoft Ensembles And The C4.5 Decision-Making Algorithm, Mesías Elías Machado Maliza, Gabriela Alejandra Rojas Chávez, Karen Andrea Cayancela Arequipa, María José Calderón Velázquez

Neutrosophic Sets and Systems

This dissertation fills a gap by assessing what aspects pollute the Chibunga River of Riobamba, Ecuador, which is becoming increasingly polluted. Pollution is a growing source of concern for ecosystems and human health, so assessing what factors is important. Applicable to an increasingly querulous society where river pollution has led to legal ramifications in Ecuador's Monjas and Machángara Rivers, creating a need for more protections and preventative measures makes this study relevant. The literature review cites established studies that have assessed river pollution occurrences similar to the Chibunga River. Still, none have assessed the concern via a truly indeterminate/incomplete approach …

Validation Of Relationships Between Effective Lead-Ership And Organizational Performance Through Workplace Well‑Being: Formulation Of Neutrosophic Plithogenic Hypotheses In The Context Of Ecuadorian Public Higher Education, Otto Villaprado Chávez, Jaime Rivera Camino

Neutrosophic Sets and Systems

This investigation correlates effective leadership with organizational performance of public universities in Ecuador, while employee well-being plays a mediating role. Such a topic is relevant because public educational management must be maximized since many public entities struggle with resources and human talent—such challenges translate to critical determinants of institutional quality and public and private market competitiveness. Moreover, whilst literature exists on leadership and performance, few have explored the mediation role of employee well-being in Latin America; thus, an opportunity arises to fill the literature gap with meaningful findings. Thus, to solve the problem, an approach based on neutrosophic plithogenic hypotheses …

A Neutrosophic Random Forest Framework For Uncertainty-Aware Classification Of Nursery School Applications, Franklin Parrales-Bravo, Roberto Tolozano-Benites, Manuel Reyes-Wagnio, Dayron Rumbaut-Rangel, Leonel Vasquez-Cevallos

Neutrosophic Sets and Systems

This paper presents a novel framework that integrates Random Forest classification with neutrosophic logic to address the challenge of uncertainty-aware decision-making in nursery school application processes. Using the publicly available Nursery dataset—which includes socio-familial attributes such as parental occupation, financial standing, and health conditions—the proposed model not only achieves high predictive accuracy (approximately 95%) but also quantifies uncertainty explicitly through neutrosophic sets defined by truth (T), indeterminacy (I), and falsity (F) membership degrees. This approach allows for a nuanced interpretation of classification confidence, distinguishing between clear-cut cases that can be automated and borderline instances requiring human expert review. By enabling …

Literacy is acquired in multigrade classrooms in complicated scenarios because of varying literacy competencies and abilities and varied resources and materials. Thus, it's hard to determine if certain teaching interventions work. This is also a growing concern, a timely consideration, because as the institutions try to better the Quality of Education and prevent learning lags for multivariate classrooms are concerned. Yet the literature contains gaps where no direct attempt to stabilize teaching interventions is made despite the findings of many studies generating didactic interventions through the proceedings. Thus, this study fills the gap with an approach based upon hypothesis generation …

2020-Current year OA Pubs

Nuclear Factor IA, a member of the long-studied Nuclear Factor I family of DNA-binding proteins, plays pivotal roles in development and metabolism. Dysregulation or loss of Nuclear Factor IA is associated with severe neurological defects in humans and disruptions in fatty acid metabolism linked to conditions such as osteoarthritis. Despite extensive study, the DNA recognition mechanism of Nuclear Factor I family proteins remains unresolved. Previous studies have proposed that these proteins dimerize via their DNA-binding domains to bind TGGCA-containing dyad sequences. In this study, we demonstrate that both full-length Nuclear Factor IA and its isolated DNA-binding domain are monomeric in …
