Staff Education Project For Nursing Staff At An Adult Mental Health Clinic To Address Inconsistencies And Inadequacies In Suicide Risk Screening, Grace Oluwasade Awodele

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

This staff education initiative was designed for nursing personnel at an adult mental health clinic, aiming to address inconsistencies and inadequacies in suicide risk screening practices among health care providers. Despite regular patient interactions, staff frequently lack the necessary knowledge, confidence, and standardized tools to identify individuals at risk for suicide, leading to missed opportunities for early intervention. The existing gap in practice jeopardized patient safety, led to preventable harm, and highlighted the need for evidence-based screening protocols, such as the Ask Suicide-Screening Questions (ASQ) tool, to facilitate timely, equitable, and effective suicide prevention in nursing practice. The project focused …

Circumciser Type And The Type Of Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting Prevalence For Girls Ages 0-14 Years In Ethiopia, Jean-Pierre Ramazani Abedi

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Despite ongoing eradication efforts, female genital mutilation and cutting (FGM/C) remains a major public health and human rights concern in Ethiopia. This quantitative study was conducted to examine how circumciser type (traditional cutter, birth attendant, or health professional) influences FGM/C prevalence and severity among girls ages 0–14, considering the moderating effects of residence and mothers’ FGM status, while controlling for age and income. Guided by the social ecological model and using 2016 E Ethiopian Demographic Health Surveys data, analysis indicates a significant association between circumciser type and FGM/C type (χ² (2, N = 1,553) = 6.86, p = .032), which …

Capitalization Of Bundled Amenities And Hazards In Home Prices: The Case Of Wildfire Exposure, Brett Watson, Jennifer I. Schmidt, Matthew Berman Jan 2026

Capitalization Of Bundled Amenities And Hazards In Home Prices: The Case Of Wildfire Exposure, Brett Watson, Jennifer I. Schmidt, Matthew Berman

ISER Reports

Wildfires represent a growing threat to property and human life due to climate change and development into higher exposure areas. These risks are particularly salient in the Arctic and subarctic where changes are occurring quickly. This paper uses a hedonic model of home sale prices in Alaska to estimate individuals’ willingness to pay to avoid wildfire exposure. A hedonic housing price analysis shows that the homes most exposed to wildfire actually sell at a premium compared to those homes that are least exposed. However, this premium disappears once proximity to public firefighting infrastructure is accounted for, suggesting that the premium …

Faculty, Staff and Students Publications

Sequence alignment is essential for genomic research and clinical diagnostics, yet detecting complex rearrangements such as inversions, duplications, and gene conversions remains challenging due to allele complexity and limitations of current methods. We introduce VACmap, a non-linear mapping approach to enhance the detection and representation of all genetic variations. VACmap improves duplication detection from 20% to 90% in the Challenging Medically-Relevant Genes (CMRG) benchmark and improves characterization of complex inversions in repetitive regions and gene conversion events. It improves resolving clinically significant loci, including the LPA gene (with repetitive KIV-2 units linked to coronary heart disease), GBA1 and STRC genes …

Allocating Data Protection Duties The Chinese Way Jan 2026

Allocating Data Protection Duties The Chinese Way

Washington International Law Journal

Abstract: China has been enacting data protection laws with distinctive features at an unprecedented pace, which makes it necessary to update existing studies on the Chinese approach to data protection. Unlike its predecessors, this Article focuses on developing a structured approach to dissecting the Chinese regime, especially the Personal Information Protection Law and latest case law. It analyzes how the laws allocate responsibilities among the three major parties involved in data protection—individual data subjects, data controllers, and regulators—and draws comparisons with European Union (EU) laws that inspired the Chinese laws. It argues that the way Chinese laws allocate data …

INTRODUCTION: Environmental Enteric Dysfunction (EED) is a subacute inflammation of the small intestinal (SI) mucosa associated with undernutrition and perturbation of the SI microbiota. Its diagnosis relies on histopathological assessment of small intestinal biopsies, with a lack of validated biomarkers contributing to underdiagnosis. This study assessed the prevalence and histological features of EED in undernourished Bangladeshi women living in an urban slum in Dhaka, compared to well-nourished women from slum and non-slum areas, and examined the factors associated with histologically confirmed EED.

METHODS: This analysis included non-pregnant, non-lactating Bangladeshi women aged 18-45 years classified by location of residence and nutritional …

Towards A Unified Gating Scheme For The Cnbd Ion Channel Family, Jenna L Lin, Baron Chanda Jan 2026

Towards A Unified Gating Scheme For The Cnbd Ion Channel Family, Jenna L Lin, Baron Chanda

2020-Current year OA Pubs

Cyclic nucleotide-binding domain (CNBD) channels are critical components of numerous bioelectrical processes, including cardiac pacemaking, neuronal signaling, phototransduction in the eye, and stomatal regulation in plants. While members of this channel family share a conserved overall structure, they exhibit striking differences in voltage sensitivity. Hyperpolarization-activated cyclic nucleotide-gated channels are activated by membrane hyperpolarization, whereas ether-à-go-go channels open upon depolarization. Mutagenesis and chimeragenesis studies have revealed that some mutants display bipolar gating behavior-remaining closed at intermediate membrane potentials but capable of opening in response to both hyperpolarization and depolarization. Remarkably, in certain cases, just a few mutations are sufficient to reverse …

Ulama And Vision 2030: Saudi Arabia Government's Strategies To Navigate A Successful Economic Reform, Nashiha Ulya, Hamdan Basyar

Global: Jurnal Politik Internasional

Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 seeks to diversify its oil-dependent economy, but scepticism persists due to past reform failures, particularly in fiscal policy and labour markets. Ulama, as key figures in the Saudi "social contract," play a vital role in legitimising government policies, especially on social and religious matters. However, reforms promoting private sector growth and social liberalisation have raised concerns among conservative ulama over potential threats to Islamic values. To address this, the government under Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) employs a strategy of separating economic and religious narratives while using a "carrot and stick" approach to manage ulama opposition. This …

The Regionalisation Of Blockchain Technology As Asean Cybersecurity Strategy Against Terrorist Financing Through Cryptocurrency, Sabda Ningsih, Syuryansyah Syuryansyah Jan 2026

The Regionalisation Of Blockchain Technology As Asean Cybersecurity Strategy Against Terrorist Financing Through Cryptocurrency, Sabda Ningsih, Syuryansyah Syuryansyah
