Who You Gonna Call? Talk Radio As Therapy And As A Marker Of Social Change In Ireland, Finola Doyle O'Neill Jan 2026

Who You Gonna Call? Talk Radio As Therapy And As A Marker Of Social Change In Ireland, Finola Doyle O'Neill

Irish Communication Review

In the Irish context, the radio talk show has long constituted a distinctive cultural institution, evolving from early programmes such as Dear Frankie, The Gay Byrne Show, The Ryan Line, and Liveline into a significant public forum for the expression of personal narratives, collective opinion, and emotional resonance (O’Sullivan, 2005). Over time, this genre has undergone a notable transformation—from functioning as a secular analogue to the Catholic confessional to becoming an increasingly therapeutic outlet for listeners. This evolution is emblematic of wider sociocultural shifts in Ireland, particularly the waning influence of institutional religion (Inglis, 2000) and the disintegration of traditional …

The Unscripting Of Broadcasting In Postwar Ireland, Eileen Morgan-Zayachek Jan 2026

The Unscripting Of Broadcasting In Postwar Ireland, Eileen Morgan-Zayachek

Irish Communication Review

This article builds on existing histories of Irish broadcasting by examining the contexts and implementation of postwar reforms initiated by Fianna Fáil politician, Erskine Hamilton Childers. The lifting of script submission requirements and promotion of open debate extended Childers’ efforts to modernize Ireland’s infrastructure and promote civic engagement. Childers viewed Irish radio as a platform for cultivating critical thinking, public debate, and understanding of state institutions—assets he believed Irish citizens needed to compete in the global economy. The article reviews the repressive practices of the early broadcasting service that sought to avoid all controversial content. It also traces a throughline …

Acute Stemi In A Young Adult On Therapeutic Anticoagulation Following Diclofenac Use, Naeem Hasanfatta, Naveed Ahmed, Debabrata Dash Jan 2026

Acute Stemi In A Young Adult On Therapeutic Anticoagulation Following Diclofenac Use, Naeem Hasanfatta, Naveed Ahmed, Debabrata Dash

Journal of the Saudi Heart Association

Background: Acute coronary syndrome (ACS) in young adults is uncommon. The case of a 34-year-old male, post mechanical mitral valve replacement (MVR), who developed anterior ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) despite therapeutic anticoagulation (INR 3.17), shortly after the initiation of diclofenac, highlights an important clinical scenario.

Case Presentation: The patient presented with atypical upper back pain and was diagnosed with anterior STEMI. Coronary angiography revealed a 100% thrombotic occlusion in the mid left anterior descending (LAD) artery. Percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) was successfully performed. Importantly, the patient had no history of hypercoagulable states or atherosclerosis and had been compliant with …

Optimized Resnet-18 Architecture For Multi-Class Oral Diseases Classification, Ahmed Ahmed Jan 2026

Optimized Resnet-18 Architecture For Multi-Class Oral Diseases Classification, Ahmed Ahmed

Karbala International Journal of Modern Science

In recent years, the classification of oral diseases has gained significant attention due to its influence on public health and the necessity for early and accurate diagnosis. Traditional diagnosis depends on manual clinical assessment, which can be slow and subjective. An optimized and subsequently quantized model is required to provide a faster and more consistent diagnostic support tool. This paper proposes an optimized ResNet-18 architecture for the classification of six oral diseases. The optimization process is based on removing the Rectified Linear Unit (ReLU), Batch Normalization (BN), and convolutional layers from the base ResNet-18 blocks that contain 128 filters. This …

Sperm-Associated Antigen 6 (Spag6) As A Potential Marker Of Sperm Function In Diagnosing Male Infertility, Ibtisam A. Al-Ali,, Kawkab A. Alsaadi

Karbala International Journal of Modern Science

Background: While male infertility has become a significant global health concern, conventional analysis of semen has not made progress in the detection of contraindicated molecular biomarkers, such as sperm-associated antigen 6 (SPAG6), which is a protein involved in axonemal structure and flagellar motility.

Hypothesis: Expression of SPAG6 correlates with sperm motility and structural integrity. This means that its dysregulation may serve as a molecular indicator of impaired sperm performance.

Methods: A comprehensive review of recent studies was conducted with a focus on SPAG6’s molecular characteristics, expression patterns in normal versus abnormal spermatozoa, and the role it plays in motility-related …

Optimized Co2 Gas Sensing With Sns:Sm2o3/N-Si Nanocomposites Fabricated Via Spray Pyrolysis, Wasan A. Khalaf, Mays A. Hammadi, Mohammed J. Alsultani, Yahya R. Hathal, Mohammed O. Salman

Karbala International Journal of Modern Science

In this work, tin sulfide:samarium oxide (SnS:Sm2O3) composite films were deposited using a spray pyrolysis technique for room-temperature CO2 gas sensing. X-ray diffraction (XRD) confirmed a polycrystalline SnS nature of orthorhombic-phase crystallinity at 10 at.% Sm ions, while 20 at.% Sm induced Sm2O3 as a separate phase. Field emission-scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) induced uniform grains and increased the surface roughness, enhancing gas adsorption. UV-visible absorbance revealed band-gap narrowing. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) analysis revealed vibrational band shifts, confirming the structural modifications. Gas-sensing measurements demonstrated 5.72%, 19.65%, and 9.65% for pure SnS, …

Banking On Jarkesy, Jacob Cunningham, Todd Phillips Jan 2026

Banking On Jarkesy, Jacob Cunningham, Todd Phillips

Duke Law Journal Online

The 150-year-old bank regulatory system is under threat. Following the Supreme Court’s landmark decision in Jarkesy, bankers have filed numerous lawsuits challenging the ability of the federal bank regulatory agencies to adjudicate cases in non-Article III tribunals. But unlike the agencies tasked with enforcing the securities, antitrust, and consumer protection laws, the banking regulators lack statutory authority to file cases in federal court. A decision invalidating their in-house adjudicative authority strips of them of any forum in which to file enforcement actions.

This essay argues that these lawsuits should fail. Because the Seventh Amendment jury trial right exempts “public rights,” …

Social Workers' Perspectives Of Using Teletherapy To Foster Resilience Among Middle-Class Single Black Mothers, Yvonne Judge Jan 2026

Social Workers' Perspectives Of Using Teletherapy To Foster Resilience Among Middle-Class Single Black Mothers, Yvonne Judge

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Inadequate mental health support, particularly from social workers, disproportionately affects middle-class single Black mothers. Prior studies have examined low-income single mothers’ access to mental health care and the potential of teletherapy as a tool for improving access; however, few have explored how middle-class single Black mothers navigate mental health challenges. Further, there is a lack of research on social workers’ perspectives of using teletherapy to foster resilience among middle-class single Black mothers. This is a critical gap, as social workers play a key role in tailoring mental health interventions. The purpose of this study was to explore social workers’ perspectives …

National Survey Of Physical Therapists’ Participation As Health Educators In Physical Activity Promotion Among Older Adults, Casey Nicole Mokres

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Physical inactivity among older adults remains a major national and global public health concern linked to preventable morbidity, mortality, and rising healthcare costs. Physical therapists are uniquely positioned to promote physical activity (PA) through health education, yet their engagement in this role is not well defined. This quantitative cross-sectional study examined associations between clinical practice factors—years of experience, board certification status, and practice setting—and three domains of the theoretical domains framework (knowledge, skills, and behavioral regulation) related to PA promotion among older adults. The framework guided identification of behavioral and contextual factors influencing therapists’ delivery of PA promotion interventions. Data …

Staff Education To Expand Clinicians’ Knowledge On The Use Of Depression Screening Tools In A Longterm Care Facility, Abibatu Bakarr Bangai

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Depression exists as a common yet often undetected mental health issue which affects many elderly residents who live in long-term care facilities. The combination of multiple depression screening tools with inadequate staff training leads to delayed resident diagnosis and produces variable treatment methods which raises the possibility of negative results for residents. This Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project addressed a practice gap related to inconsistent implementation of the Patient Health Questionnaire–2 (PHQ-2) and Patient Health Questionnaire–9 (PHQ-9) through the development and implementation of an evidence-based staff education intervention in a long-term care setting. The research study worked to improve …

Minority Leaders’ Impact On Corporate Diversity And Organizational Change, Nana Kwasi Amponsah Jan 2026

Minority Leaders’ Impact On Corporate Diversity And Organizational Change, Nana Kwasi Amponsah

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Workplace diversity continues to face criticism due to the limited representation of minority groups, with little progress made in the corporate sector. Despite corporations’ efforts to increase diversity and inclusion in the workplace, a notable lack of minority leadership persists in upper management roles. The purpose of this explanatory sequential mixed-method study was to explore the factors that affect the selection of minority leaders and how corporate executives utilize diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives to foster significant organizational change, even in the face of ongoing underrepresentation in upper management. Social dominance theory, anti-egalitarianism, and social construction theory grounded this …

Rethinking Geoengineering Governance Utilizing The Playing God Argument: Considerations Of Knowledge, Control, And Benevolence, Julian Dreiman, Brian Patrick Green Jan 2026

Rethinking Geoengineering Governance Utilizing The Playing God Argument: Considerations Of Knowledge, Control, And Benevolence, Julian Dreiman, Brian Patrick Green

Staff Publications and Research

Because greenhouse gas emissions continue to grow, it is increasingly challenging to limit global warming to 1.5 or 2.0 degrees Celsius. As such, there is a growing debate on whether or not to deploy geoengineering to reduce warming. Geoengineering is controversial, and many arguments have been raised against it, including the “playing God” critique. When understood through the philosopher Moti Mizrahi’s reinterpretation, the playing God critique does not eliminate the possibility of using geoengineering, but rather informs how its governance can be improved. We use Mizrahi’s interpretation of the playing God critique to claim that the existing governance literature lacks …

Health Impacts Of Migration And Policy On The Iranian Diaspora, Jihye Lee, Mitra Naseh, Sahar Badiezadeh, Sarvenaz Taridashti, Erick Da Luz Scherf

Department of Psychology Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works

Migration is shaped by a complex interplay of political, economic, and social factors that drive individuals to seek stability and better prospects abroad. Since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, Iran has experienced significant emigration of its highly educated population, driven by political instability, economic challenges, and restrictive societal norms. This study explores how U.S. immigration policies affect the health and well-being of highly educated Iranian immigrants, with particular attention given to the impact of nationality-based restrictions on psychosocial outcomes. Using a phenomenological approach, we analyzed in-depth interviews with 40 participants to examine the lived experiences of highly educated Iranian immigrants in …

Read My Lips: No New Constructs! Construct Proliferation As A Threat To The Future Of I-O Psychology, Nathan A. Bowling, Valerie I. Sessa, Jonathan A. Shaffer, George C. Banks

Department of Psychology Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works

Industrial and organizational (I-O) psychology recognizes dozens of different constructs, including several individual differences, environmental variables, job attitudes, and work-related behaviors. It is, of course, necessary to retain a variety of constructs in order to adequately capture the complexities, subtleties, and diversity of work-related phenomena. But do the many constructs recognized by I-O psychologists all serve a useful purpose? Or has our field been too eager to welcome redundant, unnecessary constructs into the fold? And if I-O psychology has embraced too many unnecessary constructs, then what—if anything—should we do about it? In the current focal article, we first discuss when …

Posters and Presentations: Munroe-Meyer Institute

Background: NICU graduates experience disproportionate developmental and health challenges. Their families face barriers to equitable care including access to coordinated follow-up services. Traditional medical education rarely exposes students to authentic interprofessional models of care that address these inequities. The Tracking Infant Progress Statewide (TIPS) program provides developmental, social, and medical follow-up for NICU graduates across Nebraska, bringing together physicians, nurse practitioners, child developmental specialists, and nurses in a single family-centered visit. Embedding third-year medical students into this setting models collaborative practice, builds understanding of interprofessional competencies, and fosters awareness of systemic inequities affecting NICU families. This innovative curricular approach differs …

Change Detection In An Electronic Device Using Resonant Frequency Analysis, Alan She Jan 2026

Change Detection In An Electronic Device Using Resonant Frequency Analysis, Alan She

Defensive Publications Series

Detecting internal physical changes in an electronic device (e.g., a smartphone, smart watch, wearable device) may be difficult with some conventional methods, and is often limited to chemical or electrical monitoring that fails to detect structural changes. A system can perform a mechanical resonant frequency analysis using existing hardware components, such as a haptic actuator and one or more sensors (e.g., an accelerometer, a microphone). The haptic actuator can be configured to generate a vibrational stimulus across a range of frequencies, while the sensors can measure the device's corresponding response. This measured response data can be processed to generate a …

School of Graduate Studies Faculty Publications

The gut–brain axis represents a dynamic two-way signaling network whose dysregulation has been implicated in a wide range of neurogastrointestinal disorders. In this context, extracellular vesicles (EVs) have emerged as critical mediators of intercellular signaling and as promising non-invasive biomarkers. Derived from host and microbial cells, EVs carry bioactive cargo—including proteins, lipids, nucleic acids, and metabolites—that reflect the physiological or pathological state of their cells of origin. Their ability to cross biological barriers, such as the blood–brain barrier, underscores their potential for diagnosing and monitoring gut–brain axis dysfunctions. In this mini-review, we integrate microbial and brain-derived EVs within the framework …

Collaborating With ‘Blue Food’ System Stakeholders To Achieve Optimal Nutritional Health And Wellbeing In Less Affluent Communities, Clare Pettinger, Louise Hunt, Carol Wagstaff Jan 2026

Collaborating With ‘Blue Food’ System Stakeholders To Achieve Optimal Nutritional Health And Wellbeing In Less Affluent Communities, Clare Pettinger, Louise Hunt, Carol Wagstaff

School of Health Professions

UK food system transformation is urgently needed, but to date, minimal research has investigated ‘blue foods’ probably because they are ethically nuanced. There exists a paradox whereby materially deprived communities should be eating more fish to meet nutritional requirements, yet there is a global ‘red flag’ around global overfishing. New collaborative and creative solutions are, therefore, needed to tackle such food system inequities. By working together, all voices can be equally heard when decisions are being made to improve the system. Similarly, innovation and disruption of established supply chains will enable better access to healthy, affordable and tasty food that …
