BACKGROUND: Whole genome sequence (WGS) data in multi-ancestry samples supports discovery of low-frequency or population-specific genetic variants associated with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and lung function.

RESULTS: We performed single variant, structural variant, and gene-based analysis of pulmonary function (FEV

CONCLUSIONS: Large-scale multi-ancestry WGS analysis improves variant discovery and fine-mapping resolution for lung function and COPD and highlights biologically relevant genes and pathways.

The main purpose of pharmacovigilance (PV) is to ensure medication safety through detecting, assessing, and preventing adverse drug reactions (ADRs). Healthcare providers (HCPs) are the main contributors in PV systems all over the world. However, their knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) of PV and ADRs reporting vary among different medical professions and different countries.

Osteoporosis is a disorder caused by bone remodeling imbalance in which bone resorption outpaces bone production, resulting in weaker bone structure. Factors such as heredity and insufficient calcium and vitamin D consumption.

Background and aim: Duodenal atresia (DoA) is a congenital condition that is characterized by complete or incomplete duodenal obstruction. This condition needs urgent surgical intervention that carries risks of postoperative complications especially in low-birth-weight babies and with associated comorbidities. The success rate of the surgical procedure was reported to be higher than 90%. Objectives: to assess the knowledge regarding the diagnosis of endodontically affected teeth and the decision-making abilities regarding specific clinical situations among the dental residents in dental specialist center/ left bank/ Mosul / Iraq.

Helicobacter pylori is a Gram-negative bacterium associated with peptic ulcer disease and gastric cancer. The study aimed to evaluate its prognosis and its relationship to sex, age, thyroid function, IL-6, and blood groups. 120 blood samples were collected from patients with gastrointestinal disorders at Al-Salam Hospital in Mosul between May and October 2024. The samples underwent clinical examination, including anti-H. pylori antibodies (chromatography and IgA ELISA to confirm active infection), thyroid hormones (Minvidus), interleukin-6 (ELISA), and blood typing using serological techniques.

The bones are cushioned by a thin layer of hyaline cartilage that permits physical activity to be performed without experiencing any discomfort. However, these tissues are susceptible to several diseases involving osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis resulting in cartilage degradation. Sirtuins (SRTs) and SRT-activating molecules have been shown in previous studies to affect cartilage and chondrocytes positively. Anoikis resistance, or evasion of cell death triggered by matrix detachment, is a hallmark of cancer cell survival and metastasis. We showed that repeated exposure to suspension stress followed by recovery under attached conditions leads to development of anoikis resistance. The acquisition of anoikis resistance was associated with enhanced invasion, chemoresistance, and immune evasion in vitro and distant metastasis in vivo. This acquired anoikis resistance was not genetic, persisting for a finite duration without detachment stress, but was sensitive to CDK8/19 mediator kinase inhibition that could also reverse anoikis resistance. This study examines the institutional and financial dynamics of cash Awqaf in the Eastern Thrace region of the Ottoman Empire, presenting a long-term quantitative analysis that extends beyond Istanbul. This analysis aims to clarify the evolution of capital levels, founders’ profiles, and the functions of cash Awqaf from the sixteenth to the early twentieth centuries. To address the paucity of regional data, a novel dataset encompassing cash Awqaf in Edirne, Kırklareli, and Tekirdağ from 1544–1917 was developed. Journal of Social, Behavioral, and Health Sciences

Limited studies have examined pandemic-related stressors among urban refugee youth in low and middle-income humanitarian countries (LMICs), such as Uganda. We explored the lived experience of COVID-19-related stressors among urban refugee youth in Kampala, Uganda. We analyzed qualitative data (text messages, WhatsApp chats, photos) collected in an interactive mobile health intervention with 346 refugee youth aged 16–24 in Kampala. Findings revealed stressors across socioecological levels: individual (e.g., financial-related distress), social (e.g., limited social interactions), community (e.g., food insecurity), and policy (e.g., unprecedented lockdowns). Findings can inform social work organization pandemic preparedness strategies for economic empowerment and social cohesion with youth.

Background: Abnormal levels of VWF (von Willebrand Factor) are a risk factor for venous thromboembolism (VTE) and bleeding. Genome-wide association studies for VWF have identified novel candidate genes that may regulate VWF levels in humans, including RAB5C (RAS-associated protein RAB5C). We hypothesized that RAB5C regulates VWF release from endothelial cells.

Methods: We studied the effect of RAB5C on vesicle trafficking in human endothelial cells. Background: The correlation between hepatitis B virus (HBV) and nephropathy presents a significant public health issue in Iraq. Aim: This study systematically investigates the association between hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) serology and chronic kidney disease among residents of Baghdad, Iraq. Methods: We evaluated the clinical characteristics and serologic profiles of 609 patients with adult-onset HBV-related membranous nephropathy. Results: Individuals who are HBsAg (+) have a slightly increased risk of developing eGFR < 60 ml/min/1.73m2 or proteinuria compared to HBsAg (-) individuals. Conclusion: The study emphasizes the substantial impact of HBV on chronic kidney disease, independent of viral replication or inflammation. The findings underscore the importance of understanding the epidemiology and clinical implications of HBV infection in the context of renal complications, revealing potential immunological and pathological mechanisms. Further studies are recommended to elucidate the complex relationship between HBV infection and kidney impairment.
