In this GCEL non-renewal holdover proceeding based on alleged non-payment, the court granted the tenant's motion to vacate a default judgment and dismiss the case. The tenant demonstrated a reasonable excuse for default due to mental health issues stemming from domestic abuse. The court also found meritorious defenses, specifically that the 90-day notice of termination was fatally defective. The notice failed to provide specific details regarding the amount of rent owed, the periods for which it was due, or information about any rent increases, which prevented the tenant from preparing a defense or exercising their right to cure the alleged …

A Quality Improvement Staff Education To Reduce Mental Health Stigma Among Healthcare Professionals, Chinwe Anthonia Chukwumerije
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Mental health stigma among healthcare professionals remains a barrier to help-seeking behaviors, workforce well-being, and psychological safety. This Doctor of Nursing Practice project addressed a practice gap by providing standardized, evidence-based staff education to reduce mental health stigma. The practice-focused question examined whether implementing an evidence-based staff education guideline improved healthcare professionals’ knowledge, attitudes, and confidence regarding mental health stigma. An evidence-based educational intervention was developed using the ADDIE instructional design model and informed by an integrative literature review. The intervention was delivered through structured staff education sessions and evaluated using pre- and post-intervention design. Results demonstrated improved knowledge of …

Staff Education To Increase Knowledge Of Referral Completeness, Tamekia T. Lindsay Thompson
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
This staff education project addressed a practice gap in a psychiatric facility where nonclinical staff frequently submitted incomplete referral documentation for patients with co-occurring medical and psychiatric conditions. Due to the facility’s inability to provide acute medical stabilization, medical clearance is required before nurse practitioners can determine admission appropriateness. The project question was, Does educating intake staff on a standardized referral checklist improve knowledge of referral criteria, as measured by pre- and post-education surveys? The Johns Hopkins evidence-based practice (JHEBP) model informed evidence translation, and the analysis, design/development, implementation, and evaluation (ADDIE) instructional design model underpinned the development and evaluation …

Electromagnetic Simulations For Vulnerable Road User Safety In 5g/6g Wireless Systems, Colin Mcnerny
Electromagnetic Simulations For Vulnerable Road User Safety In 5g/6g Wireless Systems, Colin Mcnerny
Theses and Dissertations
Protecting vulnerable road users is imperative. As 5G wireless technology matures and 6G standards are established, new operational technology emerges to reduce traffic accidents. There is widespread evidence to support the need for pedestrian awareness in modern traffic ecosystems as a significant number of vulnerable road users are injured or killed every year due to observable traffic failures. Computational electromagnetic (CEM) solvers are used to model, simulate, and analyze the performance of antennas deployed to meet this challenge. Validation studies using the Altair FEKO CEM solver demonstrate scenarios where vulnerable road users are at risk. The simulation data in this …

BACKGROUND: Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination is a proven and effective tool for preventing several types of cancers, yet vaccination rates among young adults remain suboptimal, particularly among those not enrolled in 4-year colleges. This population can be more difficult to reach due to fewer established institutional touchpoints, limited engagement with campus-based health services, and greater variability in access to preventive care. At the same time, social media has become a dominant source of information for young adults, with TikTok (ByteDance) emerging as one of the most widely used platforms. Approximately 41% of TikTok's users are between the ages of 16 …

Focal adhesions (FAs) are critical multi-protein complexes regulating cell adhesion, migration, and survival, and their dysregulation contributes to cancer metastasis and vascular diseases. Despite extensive research on FA formation, little is known about FA turnover, particularly its regulation by autophagy. This study introduces a novel tandem fluorescence reporter capable of tracking the entire FA-phagy flux, from autophagosome formation to lysosomal degradation. The reporter, based on a red–green fluorescence system with a lysosome-specific cleavage site, integrates seamlessly into endogenous focal adhesion complexes, demonstrating sensitivity and specificity to autophagy stimuli. Validated in multiple cell lines, the tool revealed dynamic FA-phagy responses to …

The establishment of human intestinal enteroids (HIEs) as a model for human norovirus (HuNoV) replication has been transformative for studying this leading cause of gastroenteritis. However, indefinite passaging of HuNoVs in HIEs remained a challenge, necessitating the use of patient stool samples as viral inocula. Using RNA-seq, we identified CXCL10, CXCL11, and CCL5 as up-regulated chemokines, suggesting their potential as host restriction factors. TAK-779, a CXCR3/CCR5/CCR2 antagonist, enhanced GII.3 HuNoV replication and viral spread in a dose- and time-dependent manner, enabling successful passaging of GII.3 HuNoV in two different HIE lines and generation of viral stocks. Sequencing passaged virus revealed …

Metastatic tumor cell dissemination is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths. Clustered circulating tumor cells (CTCs) possess higher metastatic potential than single CTCs. Epithelial adherens junction (AJ) proteins typically mediate stable cell-cell interactions; however, these proteins are frequently lost in highly aggressive triple-negative breast cancers (TNBCs), raising the question of how CTCs from such tumors cluster. Here we show that the extracellular matrix (ECM) component hyaluronan (HA) mediates AJ-independent CTC clustering in TNBCs. HA is necessary and sufficient to drive clustering of tumor cells expressing its receptor CD44. Mechanistically, HA initiates contact between neighboring cells through actin-based membrane protrusions. As …
