Deepen Electronic Health Record Diffusion Beyond Breadth: Game Changers And Decision Drivers, Xuan Wang, Jun Sun, Ying Wang, Yi Liu
Information Systems Faculty Publications
Cloud computing, financial incentive and patient-centered care are the game changers that deepen EHR diffusion beyond breadth. Based on the innovation diffusion theory (IDT), technology-organization-environment (TOE) framework and alignment literature, this study examines how these changes shape business requirement, service value and society need that drive different phases of EHR diffusion in terms of planning, adoption, usage and upgrade. A longitudinal analysis with the USA National Ambulatory Medical Care Survey (NAMCS) reveals the impacts of different drivers on EHR diffusion. In addition to quantitative results, interview observations corroborate the relationships among game changers, decision drivers and EHR diffusion. The findings …
Making Privacy Injuries Concrete, Peter Ormerod
Making Privacy Injuries Concrete, Peter Ormerod
Faculty Publications
In recent years, the U.S. Supreme Court has repeatedly said that the doctrine of Article III standing deprives the federal courts of jurisdiction over some lawsuits involving intangible injuries. The lower federal courts are carrying out the Supreme Court’s instructions, and privacy injuries have borne the brunt of the Court’s directive. This Article identifies two incoherencies in the Court’s recent intangible injury decisions and builds on the work of privacy scholars to fashion a solution.
The first incoherency is a line-drawing problem: the Court has never explained why some intangible injuries create an Article III injury in fact while others …
Targeting Delivery Of Bcl-2 Family Protein Inhibitor Has The Potential To Treat Cancer And Fibrosis, Mohammad Nurul Huda
Targeting Delivery Of Bcl-2 Family Protein Inhibitor Has The Potential To Treat Cancer And Fibrosis, Mohammad Nurul Huda
Open Access Theses & Dissertations
Apoptosis is a naturally occurring cell death mechanism to remove the selective cell population. B-cell leukemia/lymphoma-2 (BCL-2) family protein plays a critical role in activating the upstream apoptosis signaling pathway, primarily the intrinsic apoptosis pathway. The BCL-2 family consists of both pro-and anti-apoptotic proteins, which are structurally and functionally similar, containing up to four BCL-2 homologies (BH) motifs (BH1-4). Defecting apoptosis along this signaling pathway can lead to various events, including malignant cell transformation, tumor metastasis, tissue fibrosis, and drug resistance. In fibrosis, the aberrant apoptosis signaling also activates multiple effector proteins and growth factors, such as TGF-β, CTGF, and …

Structural And Biochemical Studies On Disease Associated Proteins: Heat Shock Protein 60 And Hiv Capsid, Alejandro Rodriguez
Open Access Theses & Dissertations
Structural studies on proteins provide valuable knowledge, from information about their fundamental nature, to laying a foundation for rational drug design. Here, we study two proteins, a human mitochondrial chaperonin heat shock protein 60 (Hsp60) and the main structural HIV-1 protein capsid (CA). We focus on the structural nature of both proteins to try to understand their role in disease and elucidate the mechanism of potential drug treatments. Hsp60 is a chaperonin found in human mitochondria that is responsible for assisting client proteins reach their native, functional, state. The mechanism by which it catalyzes protein folding, however, has not been …

Tatton-Brown-Rahman syndrome (TBRS) is an overgrowth disorder caused by germline heterozygous mutations in the DNA methyltransferase DNMT3A. DNMT3A is a critical regulator of hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) differentiation and somatic DNMT3A mutations are frequent in hematologic malignancies and clonal hematopoiesis. Yet, the impact of constitutive DNMT3A mutation on hematopoiesis in TBRS is undefined. In order to establish how constitutive mutation of DNMT3A impacts blood development in TBRS we gathered clinical data and analyzed blood parameters in 18 individuals with TBRS. We also determined the distribution of major peripheral blood cell lineages by flow cytometric analyses. Our analyses revealed non-anemic macrocytosis, …
Sober Thoughts On Drunken Consent: Intoxication And Consent To Sexual Relations, Samuel Director
Sober Thoughts On Drunken Consent: Intoxication And Consent To Sexual Relations, Samuel Director
Jepson School of Leadership Studies articles, book chapters and other publications
Drunken sex is common. Despite how common drunken sex is, we think
very uncritically about it. In this paper, I want to examine whether drunk individuals
can consent to sex. Specifically, I answer this question: suppose that an individual,
D, who is drunk but can still engage in reasoning and communication, agrees to have
sex with a sober individual, S; is D’s consent to sex with S morally valid? I will argue
that, within a certain range of intoxication, an individual who is drunk can give valid
consent to have sex with an individual who is sober.

BACKGROUND: Uncompensated vestibular hypofunction can result in symptoms of dizziness, imbalance, and/or oscillopsia, gaze and gait instability, and impaired navigation and spatial orientation; thus, may negatively impact an individual's quality of life, ability to perform activities of daily living, drive, and work. It is estimated that one-third of adults in the United States have vestibular dysfunction and the incidence increases with age. There is strong evidence supporting vestibular physical therapy for reducing symptoms, improving gaze and postural stability, and improving function in individuals with vestibular hypofunction. The purpose of this revised clinical practice guideline is to improve quality of care …

What Is Meaningful Participation For Physical Therapists In Multidisciplinary Cancer Conferences And Tumor Boards?, Stacy Weber, Athena A. Manzino, Christopher M. Wilson, Nicole D. Booms
Articles
Tumor boards are multidisciplinary team meetings composed of providers from different specialties who collaborate to provide comprehensive cancer care. Although the term “tumor board” may be used commonly in practice, these meetings are often referred to as multidisciplinary cancer conferences (MCCs) within the literature and are referred to as such in this article. At this time, there is no current literature describing the role of physical therapists (PTs) and rehabilitation professionals as part of the MCC or multidisciplinary tumor boards. Yet, PTs are often included as part of this multidisciplinary team in cancer care. This inclusion has not completely shifted …

The blue economy has roots in the international arena of sustainable development and sets out to unlock opportunities for economy and society whilst protecting and enhancing marine environments. To date there has been no analysis of how this overarching intention for sustainability has influenced the rapid development of blue economy policies at national and regional scales. In this article, we analyse the synergies and conflicts between blue economy policies from a diversity of national and regional policies and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. We show that to maintain critical alignment with targets for sustainability, place-based contextual development of blue economies …

Development Of A Rating Scale For The Measurement Of Adult Social Skills, Jessica Cuitareo
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Social skills are a person’s ability to adapt to the environment appropriately utilizing verbal and nonverbal communication (Matson et al., 2007). In accordance with the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders – fifth edition (DSM-5), individuals diagnosed with Autism demonstrate social skills deficits (APA, 2013). Such deficits may impact an individual negatively in developing and maintaining relationships, as well as occupational skills. However, assessments for adults are few and far between, as assessment has primarily focused on children. Therefore, the purpose of this dissertation was to create and pilot a measure of adult social skills, with the intention of …
