Recent Trends In Digital Library Publications: A Scientometric Analysis, Rajashekhar Mahadevagouda, Pavithrabai M. S

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

The study seeks to illustrate the most current trends in digital library research via the use of scientometrics. The study of scientific networks is important in many scientific domains. A social network with many nodes and connections serves as the foundation for scientific network research. Nodes include authors, publications, and journals, while linkages include citations, cocitations, and coauthorship. Data was collected from the Scopus abstracting and citation database for the period of ten years from 2012 to 2021. The most relevant 1957 documents were chosen from the collection, and selected documents were analyzed using Biblioshny and VOSviewer. The research showed …

A Pill's Ransom: Healthcare Liability Litigation For Unnecessary Pelvic Examinations For Birth Control Pills, Bailey D. Barnes

Faculty Publications

Despite some of the modest advances made in reproductive rights and reproductive justice in the twentieth and early-twenty-first century in the United States, many vestiges of paternalism and overregulation of female bodies remain. This Article tackles the issue of the requirement of pelvic exams and Pap smear tests for the prescription of oral contraceptives, otherwise known as the birth control pill ("the Pill"). Though state legislators are somewhat to blame for this exercise of control over female bodies for women to receive access to contraceptives, it is the medical profession itself that is at the core of this ill. Owing …

Short-Term Household Economic Stress Effects On Retail Sales In El Paso: 2002-2019, Thomas M. Fullerton Jr., Patricia Arellano-Olague

Border Region Modeling Project

Economic stress indices are beginning to be developed as gauges of business cycle conditions for regional economies. Although the popularity of these metrics is increasing, there have been only a small number of studies that analyze the effectiveness of these tools for monitoring regional economic developments. This effort employs data for one such index that is maintained by The University of Texas at El Paso Border Region Modeling Project. The sample period covers December 2002 through March 2019. Specific components of the index include inflation, unemployment, and housing prices. Estimation results indicate that the effects of any changes in economic …

United States Department of Agriculture Wildlife Services: Staff Publications

Protected areas are intended as tools in reducing threats to wildlife and preserving habitat for their long-term population persistence. Studies on ranging behavior provide insight into the utility of protected areas. Vultures are one of the fastest declining groups of birds globally and are popular subjects for telemetry studies, but continent-wide studies are lacking. To address how vultures use space and identify the areas and location of possible vulture safe zones, we assess home range size and their overlap with protected areas by species, age, breeding status, season, and region using a large continent-wide telemetry datasets that includes 163 individuals …

gars and to engine and flight surfaces of moored aircraft. We questioned whether consistent removal of nest material would negatively affect use of a nest site, measured by a reduction in material accumulation. We conducted our study on a 2,200-ha site in Erie County, Ohio, USA (41° 22’ N, 82° 41’ W), from April 15 through June 2, 2020. We used 120 wooden nest boxes on utility poles, protected by an aluminum predator guard below the box. Our treatments included (1) twice weekly, repeated nest material removal (RMR; n = 40 nest boxes); (2) complete nest removal, but only after …

Bright Light Treatment Of Combat-Related Ptsd: A Randomized Controlled Trial, Shawn D. Youngstedt, Christopher E. Kline, Alexandria Reynolds, Shannon K. Crowley, James B. Burch Ph.D., Nidha Khan, Seungyong Han

Faculty Publications

Introduction

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a prevalent consequence of combat with significant associated morbidity. Available treatments for PTSD have had limitations, suggesting a need to explore alternative or adjuvant treatments. Numerous rationales for bright light treatment of PTSD include its benefits for common PTSD comorbidities of depression, anxiety, and circadian misalignment and its relative ease of use with few side effects. The primary aims of this research were to examine the effects of bright light treatment for combat-related PTSD and associated morbidity. Materials and Methods

A randomized controlled trial was performed in N = 69 veterans with PTSD attributable …

Advance To The Nearest Dispensary: How Quebec's Marijuana Monopoly Is A Model For Future Legalized States, Jason Levine Apr 2022

Advance To The Nearest Dispensary: How Quebec's Marijuana Monopoly Is A Model For Future Legalized States, Jason Levine

Cardozo International & Comparative Law Review

The note argues that a state-run monopoly model for marijuana sales, inspired by Quebec's approach, could more effectively promote public health and reduce black-market competition compared to the current license authorization model used in U.S. states like Colorado and California. By centralizing control over pricing, distribution, and product regulation, a monopolistic structure could address challenges such as high taxes, slow transition phases, and the dominance of illegal markets. The analysis draws parallels to alcohol sales frameworks and highlights how a government-run system could avoid federal tax burdens under Section 280E of the Internal Revenue Code.

Duty To Rescue In The Digital Age: A Comparative Analysis, Cameron Kellett Apr 2022

Duty To Rescue In The Digital Age: A Comparative Analysis, Cameron Kellett

Cardozo International & Comparative Law Review

The article advocates for the enactment of state legislation establishing a duty-to-rescue doctrine, arguing that the absence of such a legal duty leads to preventable harm and undermines societal solidarity. It critiques the arbitrary nature of the special relationship exception under current law and proposes Minnesota's duty-to-rescue statute as a model for reform. The analysis emphasizes that requiring bystanders to provide reasonable assistance, without endangering themselves, is both feasible and morally justifiable, as it aligns with human tendencies to help others in distress.

Leveling The Playing Field In Custody Proceedings In New York City Family Court: Enforcing The Rights Of All Parents To Notice And An Unbiased Opportunity To Enforce Their Fundamental Right To Parent Their Child, Dana Gambardella

Cardozo Journal of Equal Rights & Social Justice

The note argues that the Administration for Children's Services (ACS) in New York City systematically fails to notify non-respondent fathers, particularly Black fathers, of their rights and opportunities to participate in child welfare proceedings. This practice violates their fundamental constitutional right to parent and disproportionately affects low-income Black families, perpetuating racial and economic disparities in the child welfare system. The note advocates for systemic reforms, including increased accountability for ACS and the establishment of a private right of action for aggrieved parents.
