Perspective On Wildgrass Oil & Gas Committee V. Colorado Oil & Gas Conservation Commission And The Embracing Of Associated Standing, Ralph A. Cantafio, Miles C. Nowak, Cody J. Watson

Texas A&M Journal of Property Law

The ongoing litigations between the Wildgrass Oil & Gas Committee (“Wildgrass”) and, among others, the Colorado Oil & Gas Conservation Commission (“COGCC”) serve as a microcosm of the political and legal horizons that define the microscope used to examine Colorado oil and gas development. This set of litigations began administratively with the application for permits before the COGCC and, over the passage of time, weaved its way through the District Court of the City and County of Denver (the “State District Court”), the United States District Court for the District of Colorado (the “Federal District Court”), the Colorado Court of …

Perception Of The Covid-19 Vaccine Compared To Previous Historic Vaccine Programs Amongst The Influence Of Modern Society, Kianna Thelen

Honors Thesis

In this thesis, we will explore the current understanding and misinformation regarding the COVID-19 vaccination in South Dakota. Using these findings, we will be able to identify underlying factors influencing the perception of vaccines in 18-24-year-olds. My goal is to identify underlying influences in the creation of COVID-19 vaccine perception of 18-24-year old’s.

The research consisted of three segments. First, I administered a survey to various 18-24-year old individuals on their current perception of the COVID-19 vaccine. After data collection, we analyzed the major areas of social influence. The second part consisted of gathering information related to the COVID-19 vaccines …

Reintegration Programming, Mattie Windholz

SACAD: Scholarly Activities

Among the goals of the US correctional system, rehabilitation remains important The correctional system strives to successfully reintegrate formerly incarcerated individuals into their communities where they refrain from committing further crime While there was a body of research in prior decades suggesting rehabilitation and reintegration efforts were ineffective (“nothing works”), more recent research has discredited this idea by demonstrating that many programs can be effective in correctional settings (“what works”)

The Impact Of Job Motivation And Non-Clinical Depression On Job Burnout During The Covid-19 Pandemic, Maja Persa

SACAD: Scholarly Activities

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought significant distress to many individuals and caused substantial changes in their lives. Anecdotal and statistical evidence indicates decreased job motivation and significant job burnout in most recent years. Based on existing job burnout literature, the current study attempts to expand our understanding of the influence of job motivation on job burnout in relation to depression during the COVID-19 pandemic. Specifically, different types of job motivation compared to one another to examine their effects on two dimensions of job burnout: exhaustion and disengagement. In addition, non-clinical depression served as a moderator between motivation and job burnout. …

Room Of Errors: Safety In The Nursing Program, Christina Lawver, Kathryn Amrein, Kathleen Ward, Shauna Keil

SACAD: Scholarly Activities

Creating a safer healthcare system will depend on the ability of nurses to fully use their expertise, education, and role to identify, interrupt, and correct medical errors to prevent patient harm (Gaffney et al., 2016). The ability to recognize common and preventable errors is important to improve patient outcomes and enhance safety. Errors are actions that fail to meet their desired outcome (Institute of Medicine [IOM], 2000). Errors can range from medication errors to falls or acquiring an infection or pressure ulcer. Errors could result in prolonged hospitalization, death, rise in the cost of care, and increase suffering (Clay et …

Student Ghettos: Fear Of Crime And Perceptions Of Police Legitimacy Explain Undergraduate Perceptions Of Victimization And Wellness, April Terry

SACAD: Scholarly Activities

Criminological research has examined the role of neighborhood order in explaining perceptions of crime and official crime statistics for decades. When citizens perceive their neighborhood to be socially and/or physically disordered, community and interpersonal relationships diminish, mistrust increases – including perceptions of police legitimacy – and overall individual wellness decreases. While this literature is wellestablished, little is known about these interactions within a college population—these neighborhoods referred to as “studentification” and described as “student ghettos.” Student ghettos are known for visibly delinquent and socially frowned upon behaviors, heightened concern for sexual assaults and rape, and lack of respect and perceived …

Is There A Relationship Between A Country's Level Of Happiness And Its Per Capita Gdp?, Mateo Rivarola

SACAD: Scholarly Activities

The main objective of this research project is to test the hypothesis of a relationship between a country’s level of happiness and its per capita GDP. The research is of great importance because if evidence of a relationship arises, the information could be used to develop activities or strategies which could potentially increase a country’s level of happiness by increasing its per capita GDP. The main findings are that there is evidence of a statistically significant relationship between a country’s level of happiness and its per capita GDP. Even though it might be a good result, it is not completely …

Ethical Monetization For Social Media Companies, Leo Phillips Apr 2022

Ethical Monetization For Social Media Companies, Leo Phillips

Honors Theses

The most popular social media companies today all monetize primarily through the same revenue stream, advertising. Popular social media strategies have developed similar methods to increase the advertising revenue that each user generates. These strategies for monetization have become ever increasingly exploitative and harmful to the social media user population as these major companies are gripped in a technological arms race to capture as much of their user’s time and attention as possible. The effects of increased social media use are a general overall decline in our society’s physical, emotional, and social health (Haugen, 2021 & Harris, 2019). These health …

Impact Of Interleukin-34 On The Promotion Of Bone Osteolysis And Neuroinflammation In Experimental Models Of Alzheimer’S Disease, Anny Ho Apr 2022

Impact Of Interleukin-34 On The Promotion Of Bone Osteolysis And Neuroinflammation In Experimental Models Of Alzheimer’S Disease, Anny Ho

All HCAS Student Capstones, Theses, and Dissertations

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a growing health concern and is the most common type of dementia worldwide. Emerging evidence indicates that aggregated amyloid-beta (Aβ) peptides, one of the hallmark features of AD neuropathology, can increase RANKL-mediated osteoclast activity leading to the prevalence and severity of inflammatory osteolysis, e.g., osteoporosis and periodontal bone loss. Conversely, osteolytic lesions are associated with increased risk of dementia diagnosis indicating that there is a direct link between dementia and inflammatory osteolysis. It was demonstrated that the neuronal cells primarily produce interleukin-34 (IL-34) and microglia, macrophages, and osteoclast precursors express colony-stimulating factor 1 receptor (CSF-1R), a …

Introduction: Previous COVID-19 prognostic models have been developed in hospital settings and are not applicable to COVID-19 cases in the general population. There is an urgent need for prognostic scores aimed to identify patients at high risk of complications at the time of COVID-19 diagnosis.

Methods: The RDT COVID-19 Observational Study (RCOS) collected clinical data from patients with COVID-19 admitted regardless of the severity of their symptoms in a general hospital in India. We aimed to develop and validate a simple bedside prognostic score to predict the risk of hypoxaemia or death.

Results: 4035 patients were included in the development …

Title Ix: An Analysis Of Its Effects On Collegiate Athletics, Hanna Laube Apr 2022

Title Ix: An Analysis Of Its Effects On Collegiate Athletics, Hanna Laube

Honors Projects

Title IX has had a monumental impact on the development of women’s opportunities in sports. I conducted three interviews with women athletes who competed in college from 1967-71, 1995-99, and 2009-2014. I also analyzed some primary research on how female athletes remember Title IX and some secondary research on remembering Title IX. In the interviews I found that all the athletes were very appreciative of Title IX, but did not know much about it and therefore could not think very critically about it. In contrast, scholars were very critical of Title IX and pointed out the shortcomings in the law. …

Adultification: Addressing The Injustice Faced By Young Girl Of Color In The School System, M. Siobhan Drown Apr 2022

Adultification: Addressing The Injustice Faced By Young Girl Of Color In The School System, M. Siobhan Drown

SACAD: Scholarly Activities

Adultification is a form of racial prejudice involving children of a racialized minority being treated as more mature than their biological age and reasonable social standards of development. It “reduces or removes the consideration of childhood as a mediating factor in Black youths’ behavior” (Epstein et al., 2017, p. 2). Adultification leads to a higher prevalence of sexualization, more frequent punishment, and increased alienation of young Black girls within the public school system. This is a systemic issue which requires systematic solutions. The most effective solution would be to diversify the workforce.

Creating A Generalized Michigan School Constitution, Kurstin K. Frank Apr 2022

Creating A Generalized Michigan School Constitution, Kurstin K. Frank

Honors Projects

Educational theories in the past have attempted to define, arrange, and design education to benefit society, institutions, and students of all ages. The conversations surrounding those educational theories, however, have consistently neglected to include those that the structures, policies, and purpose of education will benefit the most: the students. This research project was devised to include student voice within the conversations surrounding educational theories through the construction of a Generalized Michigan School Constitution. By delving into those theories of education, the researcher was able to dissect the five most common theories and beliefs within education to be able to decipher …
