The Effects Of Dynamic Versus Static Stretching On Lower Body Power, Lauren Boyer, Nicholas Harris, Grant Euteneuer, Evelynn Hodges
Celebrating Scholarship and Creativity Day (2018-)
Dynamic and static warmups have both been used to prepare for exercise and sport. Previous researchers indicate that dynamic stretching is the best warmup before performing exercise because it involves moving joints through their full range of motion throughout the stretch. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the difference in dynamic stretching versus static stretching in an athlete’s lower body explosiveness. METHODS: A convenience sample of twelve physically active college students completed the study (age: 20.25 ± 0.75 years; height: 176.69 ± 8.09 cm; weight: 76.74 ± 17.92 kg; mean ± SD). Three participants identified as female …

Context: The Cardiovascular and Renal Drugs Advisory Committee (CRDAC) of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reviews safety and efficacy data for cardiovascular and renal drugs, ultimately making recommendations to the Commissioner of Food and Drugs for approval. The Open Public Hearing segment of these meetings allows for patients, advocates, healthcare professionals, clinical trialists, and members of the public to provide testimony, which often results in expressing their preference for, or against, drug approval. Prior to providing testimony, the public speakers are highly encouraged to disclose any financial conflicts of interest (FCOIs) with the sponsor or other groups. Given the …

Why was the cohort set up? The Green Blue Spaces (GBS) e-cohort, funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), was established to understand the impact of green and blue spaces (GBS) on mental health and wellbeing.1 The importance of GBS for mental health has been highlighted particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.2 We processed opensource environmental data and Ordnance Survey data to create residence-level, longitudinal environment metrics for Wales, UK. These were linked to anonymised, administrative, routinely collected National Health Service (NHS) electronic health records. The cohort has individual-level linkage to a subgroup who were surveyed (cross-sectionally) to examine …
Timing Legal Parenthood, Noy Naaman
Timing Legal Parenthood, Noy Naaman
Arkansas Law Review
When does a parent become a parent? This Article examines this question through a novel framework that analyzes the tension between an individual’s evolving self-identification as a parent and the law’s acknowledgment of the individual’s parental status. It focuses on two forms of that tension. The first concerns a scenario occurring after the birth of a child, when the self-identification as a parent is established but the law has yet to formalize the parental status. The second involves a scenario occurring before the birth, when the self-identification as a parent-to-be—the process of becoming—is legally overlooked. This Article argues that this …

In the mouse brain, there are 59 retinorecipient regions, including the medial amygdala (MeA). The MeA is a sensory integrating region where social information is processed, especially those related to sexual selection, aggression, and pup retrieval. The neurons that link visual input to the brain are known as retinal ganglion cells (RGCs). There are ~47 mouse RGC subtypes, each with their own light stimulus sensitivities and activity patterns. As the MeA is notorious as the sexually dimorphic social behavioral hub, it is worthwhile beginning to explore sex differences or laterality differences in this retinorecipient area. Using anterograde, intravitreal injections in …

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a type of chronic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), where deregulated immune responses promote exacerbated inflammation and formation of ulcers in the large intestine. IBD is also one of the high-risk factors for the development of colorectal cancer (CRC). Robust neutrophil infiltration is an important feature of both UC and CRC and in both cases, disease severity is clinically correlated with elevated neutrophil numbers in the tissue. Using a preclinical mouse model of CRC (AOM/DSS) and cell sequencing analyses, the Sumagin Lab found that tumor infiltrating neutrophils promote tumor vascularization by providing metalloproteinase-14 and Osteopontin. To confirm …
