Al-Qadisiyah Medical Journal
AIH so far thought to be an auto-immune disease. One of the genetic predisposing factors is thought to be HLA-DR3 and DR4 genes. The present study aimed at investigation the frequencies of HLA-DR3, DR4 and HLA-B27 genes among the Real-time PCR were used for the HLA-genes. The age of the patients were ranged from 7- 69 years in AIH group and from 8-67 years in healthy controls group. On the context of genotyping of HLA- genes, DR3, DR4, and B27 were found to be differed in their frequencies significantly among AIH patients that creating high etiological fraction of 0.504, 0.583, …

Group A Streptococci (GAS) or Streptococcus pyogenes is an important pathogen which causes a wide-ranging of diseases for human. This study was carried out in Ear Nose Throat (ENT) department in Al–Habboby Teaching Hospital, Thi-Qar province, south of Iraq during the period from October 2015 to April 2016. Two hundred and ten swabs were collected from patients infected with pharyngitis. 152 (72.3 %) showed positive growth with S. pyogenes. GAS isolates were subjected to detect two virulence genes (scpA and sdaB) by conventional PCR technique using specific primer pairs and DNA sequencing analysis. The sequencing of PCR products produced from …

Al-Qadisiyah Medical Journal
Normal intestinal microbiota are a reservoir for antibiotic resistance (genes) especially Escherichia coli (E. coli). The goal of this study was to investigate the prevalence of integrons class 1 and antibiotic resistance among commensal E. coli isolates and detect the association of integron class 1 with antibiotic resistance (single or multiple drug resistance) that may be transport horizontally to other bacteria. Three hundred one E. coli isolates from stools were obtained from healthy individuals (age from 1to 80 years). All isolates were tested for their susceptibility against 16 antimicrobial agents using standard disc diffusion method and for the presence of …

Hearing Morbidity Post Head And Neck Radiotherapy, Ali Abd-Alamer Jwad
Al-Qadisiyah Medical Journal
Introduction: radiation therapy carries an important role in the treatment of head and neck (H&N) cancers. Exposure of cells to ionizing radiation produces a variety of biological and molecular changes that may manifest clinically as tumor killing or normal tissue toxicity, the type and severity of these effects depend on variables such as the energy and type of radiation, the composition of target biologic tissue, the cellular and molecular response, duration of exposure, and cellular microenvironment. A sound signal in the environment is collected by the pinna, passes through external auditory canal and strikes the tympanic membrane_ Vibrations of the …

Al-Qadisiyah Medical Journal
Background: Multi-detector CT angiography (MDCTA) allows detection of coronary artery calcium (CAC) and after contrast injection, visualization of the coronary artery lumen. It is commonly assumed that the absence of coronary calcification makes the presence of obstructive coronary lesions highly unlikely. Coronary computed tomographic angiography (CCTA) is a promising way for diagnosis of coronary artery lesion; however, image quality is still impaired by motion artifacts and calcifications. Objectives: To compare the ability of multi-slice coronary CT angiography (MSCCTA) with invasive coronary angiography (ICA) for detection of significant coronary artery stenosis. Patients and methods: It is hospital-based cross sectional study, enrolled …

PTEN gene is a tumor suppressor gene located in 10q23,3 that encode dual- specificity protein and lipid phospatase with tensin homologe. PTEN signaling regulate cell division and direct cells to enter natural cell death pathway. loss of PTEN leads to over –activation of AKt, which in turn , is associated with uncontrolled cell proliferation. In this cross section study, we examined 50 paraffin-embedded blocks belongs to 50 patients with proved prostate cancer, All slides subjected to IHC PTEN Ab to assess the expression of PTEN protein , and to molecular study of PTEN gene in all tissues by using CISH …

Al-Qadisiyah Medical Journal
Background and objective Smoking is a major cause of cardiovascular diseases. N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) is a valid negative biomarker of left ventricular (Lv) dysfunction. The current study investigated whether smoking has an effect on NT-proBNP serum level. Methods: A total of 44subjects 22smokers and 22 non smokers as controls were enrolled in the study. History of cardiovascular or pulmonary disease was an exclusion criterion. Serum levels of NT-proBNP were measured using an enzyme linked immunosorbent assay. Results: Analysis of data showed that there was a significant difference (P < 0.05, in serum NT-proBNP between smokers and controls.proBNP were 410 and 111 pg/ml in smokers and controls, respectively. Also, serum NT-proBNP level correlated with both average number of daily cigarettes smoked and body mass index of smokers. Conclusion These results showed that smoking could increase serum levels of NT-proBNP. Accordingly, an elevated NT-proBNP could be a strong predictor of Left ventricular dysfunction in smokers.

No significant difference between alopecia areata patients and controls according to age groups. HLA-DQB1 alleles were studied in those patients and compared with HLA-DQB1 in healthy controls. A significant decreased frequency of HLA-DQB1*020101 and HLA-DQB1*030201 alleles in patients with alopecia areata comparing with healthy controls (P < 0.05, OR= 0.76, 95% CI= 0.65-0.89) and (P < 0.05, OR= 0.72, 95% CI= 0.61-0.86) respectively. HLA-DQB1*030101, HLA-DQB1*060101 and HLA-DQB1*060201 showed significant increased frequencies in alopecia areata patients comparing with healthy controls, (< 0.05, OR= 0.24, 95% CI= 0.06-1.10), (P < 0.05, OR= 1.23, 95% CI= 0.97-1.56) and (P < 0.05, OR= 1.46, 95% CI= 1.05-2.02) respectively. There was no significant difference in HLA-DQB1 alleles in patients with family history of alopecia areata and patients without family history of alopecia areata. Patients with alopecia areata showed increased homozygousity in HLA-DQB1 when compared with controls (P <0.005, OR= 0.05, 95% CI= 0.01-0.23). Combination of HLA-DQA1*0103 – HLA-DQB1*0301 showed higher frequency in comparison with other HLA-DQA1-HLA-DQB1 alleles combinations
