Background: The World Health Organization recognizes that approximately half of all maternal deaths occur in the immediate postnatal period or 24 h after birth. Forty-seven percent of Lao women aged 15–49 who delivered a baby in the last two years received a postnatal health check in the frst two days after delivery. After leaving the presence of a provider, 98.5% of these women never received another postnatal check. The maternal mortality ratio (MMR) in Lao PDR was 126 deaths per 100,000 live births in 2020. Immediate postnatal care (PNC) is a crucial step to improving maternal mortality. The aim of …

In Belgium, antenatal care is characterized by one-to-one care; with limited integration of community-based approaches. Centering-Based Group Care (CBGC), derived from the CenteringPregnancy® model, offers an alternative by combining clinical follow-up, health education, and peer support in group sessions. This study focuses on the experiences of participants and facilitators with the implementation of CBGC in three Flemish cities (Aalst, Gent, Leuven) as part of the European Union GC_1000 project. We explored the experience regarding the implementation process along with factors influencing sustainable integration into the health care system.

Virtual reality offers a promising avenue for the assessment of executive functioning in complex workplace environments. However, its use in schizophrenia remains limited. For that reason, we investigated the validity and test-retest reliability of the Jansari assessment of Executive Functions (JEF©) in individuals with schizophrenia and its associations with competitive employment. A total of 69 participants with schizophrenia and 67 healthy controls completed JEF© and standard tests. A subsample of 58 patients was retested after an 8-week interval. Individuals with schizophrenia performed more poorly than controls on JEF© (p < 0.001) and standard tests (p < 0.05). JEF© scores correlated with standard measures (p < 0.05), except inhibition tests, and with clinician-report of everyday problems (p < 0.001). Total score showed a good test-retest reliability and the practice adjusted RCI indicated 87.9% of patients remained stable over 8 weeks. In logistic regression, higher JEF© total score significantly predicted competitive employment after adjusting for age (p = 0.004) and remained significant when …

The Impact of Foot Care Education Within the Unhoused Female Population: A Community-based Nursing Intervention
The unhoused population is a vulnerable community that faces many obstacles in accessing healthcare (Benadda et al., 2025). Many of these individuals face stigmas related to their economic and housing conditions. It is important for nurses to be able to identify risk factors that may increase the prevalence of health-related problems, including using public health models to implement disease prevention. When discussing this population, one crucial preventative measure includes foot care, which aids in the deterrence of infections and promotes overall health (Coates et al., …

Trust Before Treatment: Educating Nurses on Trauma-Informed Care for Sex Trade Survivors
Survivors of the sex trade often seek healthcare during some of the most vulnerable times in their lives, yet many report experiences of judgment, dismissal, or re-traumatization within clinical settings. Trauma-informed care is an approach that recognizes the lasting impact trauma can have on a person’s physical and emotional well-being and calls healthcare professionals to adjust their practices to promote safety, trust, autonomy, and empowerment. Research shows that implementing trauma-informed care improves patient well-being, enhances staff collaboration, and reduces the risk of further harm (Huo et al., 2023). …

An Individualized Approach to Medication Adherence and Safety for a Community Recovering from Addiction
Adherence to prescribed medications is essential for the effective treatment and prevention of medical conditions. A study conducted in British Columbia, Canada, estimated that 50% of patients worldwide do not take their medications as prescribed (Zeitouny et al., 2023). Further, having substance use disorder can increase this risk (Mehdinia et al., 2020). Research with patients who are affected by polypharmacy found that pillboxes can support medication adherence (FarzanehRad et al., 2024). With these statistics in mind, our nursing student team developed a leadership project around pillbox …

Optimizing Healthcare Utilization: Distinguishing Between Emergency and Urgent Care
Over the past two months, our group of six nursing students worked with a local transitional housing program for families. Per the facility report, a large portion of the program’s current residents are immigrants and have had little to no exposure to the American healthcare system and their options for care. The issue we targeted for our project is the increased number of 911 calls and emergency room (ER) visits for non-emergent healthcare concerns by our target population. By creating education materials on self-triaging, ER vs. Urgent Care services, and how …

Quantifying And Integrating Community Hardship Into Two-Stage Stochastic Grid Reliability Optimization With Battery Storage, Fredrica Arthur
Quantifying And Integrating Community Hardship Into Two-Stage Stochastic Grid Reliability Optimization With Battery Storage, Fredrica Arthur
LSU Master's Theses
Traditional reliability planning for conventional distribution systems is largely utility-oriented, with a focus on collective system performance metrics like Expected Energy Not Supplied (EENS), where implicitly all unserved energy is considered of equal weight in terms of post-outage economic hardship. Yet, it is well understood that extended outage durations cause an uneven level of hardship to socioeconomically disadvantaged communities. This thesis proposes a community-informed reliability planning framework where the hardship caused by outages is explicitly considered in the battery energy storage system (BESS) location and sizing problem. First, a hardship-weighted Energy Not Supplied (WENS) measure is proposed, where income, education, …

UNLABELLED: Systemic shifts in antimicrobial resistance rates can be due to epidemiologic shifts in microbial susceptibility patterns or artifactual shifts introduced by technical biases in antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST)-both ultimately leading to changes in antimicrobial prescribing. To reduce technical variability, quality control (QC) criteria for AST are published by manufacturers and standards organizations. However, traditional QC metrics, in isolation, are fallible. In this study, we describe a systematic shift in daptomycin AST results between 2022 and 2025 in isolates tested in two independent health systems. Comprehensive analysis of clinical isolate AST results and retrospective mining of QC data from this …

Defining A Multi-Omic, Ai-Enabled Stool Screening Paradigm For Colorectal Cancer: A Consensus Framework For Clinical Translation, Arturo Loaiza-Bonilla, Yan Leyfman, Viviana Cortiana, Rhys Crawford, Shivani Modi
Einstein Health Papers
Colorectal cancer (CRC) develops through both conventional adenoma-carcinoma and serrated neoplasia pathways, yet noninvasive screening still under-detects the advanced precursor lesions that enable true cancer prevention. Stool-based screening reduces CRC mortality, but its preventive impact remains constrained by limited detection of advanced precancerous lesions (APLs), including advanced adenomas and sessile serrated lesions. Next-generation multitarget stool DNA assays (mt-sDNA; e.g., Cologuard Plus) have established high sensitivity for CRC and specificity approaching 94%, leaving improved APL detection as the principal opportunity for innovation. This review presents a consensus framework for a multi-omic stool screening paradigm that integrates host epigenetic markers (DNA methylation) …
