Despite the implementation of national programs like the National Safe Motherhood Program (NSMP) that aim to improve maternal health outcomes, many women in the Philippines continue to face barriers in accessing quality maternal healthcare (MHC) due to systemic, societal, and psychological factors. Ongoing issues such as poor service delivery, limited health education, and the lack of autonomy in decision-making—particularly in underserved communities—discourage women from seeking care. This study investigates these barriers and how they shape the overall well-being of mothers in Miriam College’s partnered community, Kaingin 1, using the Integrated People-Centered Health Services Framework (IPCHSF) as a lens. Through an …

The role of websites in communicating government services and updates to constituents is paramount since they can serve as dependable hubs of critical information. However, since these are government websites, there may be political considerations behind their visual and textual content that need to be uncovered. Yet, there has been a dearth of studies, especially in the Philippine context, that scrutinized the sociopolitical forces that are at play in the production of these website contents. Hence, in this study, we attempted to continue seamlessly meshing the critical discourse analysis framework of Fairclough with a multimodal analytical model in dissecting the …

In the Philippines, one of the significant issues in society is the continuous growth of poverty and inequality. In the field of media, poverty porn is a term used to describe any content that exploits the images and narratives of impoverished individuals to gain sympathy, notoriety, and funds for a particular cause. However, there is a lack of research on poverty porn in the social media context, especially in the Philippine landscape. Thus, this study focuses on the portrayal of poverty in social media, specifically in the charity content of Raffy Tulfo in Action YouTube channel. Inductive content analysis was …

The anonymity afforded by university freedom walls proliferates the spread of information and digital gossip, actively shaping ideologies surrounding campus hierarchies—an influence that remains critically underexplored in academic research. This study addresses that gap by seeking to understand how freedom walls function as a form of discourse that constructs and negotiates hierarchical ideologies within academic communities. It analyzed 18 purposively sampled posts from the three most followed Facebook freedom walls of universities in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP), namely the University of the Philippines Diliman (UP), National University (NU), and Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU). Using Fairclough's …

Effective rehabilitation tools are essential for improving language outcomes in chronic aphasia. Speech entrainment is a behavioral treatment that has shown promise in enhancing speech output in nonfluent aphasia, potentially by acting as an external mechanism to synchronize anterior and posterior language regions in the left hemisphere. Transcranial alternating current stimulation has been hypothesized to enhance functional connectivity between brain regions by amplifying endogenous oscillations. This proof-of-concept study explored whether high-definition tACS (HD-tACS) could improve speech fluency in nonfluent aphasia when paired with speech entrainment. In a double-blind, pseudorandomized study, 1 mA of HD-tACS at 7 Hz was applied to …

Identifying Spatial Regimes Of Economic Fragility Through Spatially Constrained Clustering: Evidence From Italian Municipalities, Alessio Chiodin, Matteo Manera, Paolo Fabio Maranzano, Gianluca Monturano
Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei Working Papers
The COVID-19 pandemic generated highly heterogeneous economic effects across territories, reflecting differences in local production structures and spatial organization. This paper examines the geography of short-run economic fragility during the first wave of the pandemic by identifying spatially-coherent clusters of municipalities exposed to lockdown-induced shutdowns. Using municipal-level data on Italian suspended firms, workers, and value added in Spring 2020, we apply a Ward-like hierarchical clustering approach under spatial constraints that combines socio-economic dissimilarities with geographical proximity. We first analyze Lombardy, the region most severely affected during the initial phase, and then extend the analysis to the entire Italian territory. The …

The difference between the true treatment image represented by the portal image and a picture digitally reconstructed radiograph (DRR) coming from the physics planning as the reference image helps us measure displacement. The treatment area is dependent on the edges of the setting error. The essential step is to estimate the setting error during treatment. Dosage allocation at PTV (planning treatment volume) follows on set-up edges. Set up errors for the radiation oncology collective to minimize the therapy error. Position errors explain the variance between the first position the patient was scanned at the Computer Tomography (CT) simulation and the …

Alcohol use disorder (AUD) causes executive dysfunction, leading to reduced treatment adherence, worse clinical outcomes, and relapse. Current medications do not address these symptoms. Targeting the neuroimmune interleukin-1 (IL-1) system has potential, but its mechanistic role in prefrontal cortex (PFC) dysfunction is unclear. Here we investigated how chronic alcohol consumption shifts IL-1 regulation of the rodent and non-human primate PFC. We found that alcohol drinking decreased reference memory and shifted the search strategy in mice of both sexes, and this deficit correlated with altered IL-1 receptor accessory protein (IL-1RAcP) mRNA levels in the medial PFC (mPFC) of male mice. Notably, …

This paper calls for a shift related to English language-in-education policy and inclusive education initiatives in Colombia to ensure that English language learners with disabilities receive equitable and inclusive classroom instruction that is context-appropriate. We call for English language initiatives and policies to draw from theories and practices from both the Global South and the Global North in order to teach towards inclusive education. Trends in both English language teaching and inclusive education have drawn upon the Global North for solutions, which cannot be systemised to fit one international standard. Instead, using the Colombian context as an example, the present …

Nursing 711 Class Projects
The cases in this collection were written by graduate nursing students enrolled in the Master of Nursing program at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas School of Nursing. Each author drew from their own clinical experience to illustrate how structured reasoning shapes patient care at the bedside and beyond. Their willingness to reflect honestly on moments of uncertainty, advocacy, and judgment — and to share those reflections with students who are still developing their own — is the foundation of this work. This collection exists because of their generosity.

Politics and Global Affairs Faculty Publications and Presentations
Studies in social psychology and political science have noted the negative impact of the “double bind” facing women leaders and candidates, which suggests that women must demonstrate both masculine and feminine attributes in order to achieve the same success as men can achieve by demonstrating only masculine attributes. Less attention has focused on how feminist identity conditions these evaluations. We focus on whether individuals’ evaluations of men and women are affected by (1) the gendered attributes associated with a candidate and (2) feminist identity. Using data from an original survey experiment in the US, we investigate the relationship between respondents’ …
The Experience Of Using Ai In An Undergraduate Evidence-Based Practice And Nursing Research Course, Christa E. Hartch
The Experience Of Using Ai In An Undergraduate Evidence-Based Practice And Nursing Research Course, Christa E. Hartch
General Submissions: Academic Settings and Education-based Materials
As part of a university-wide, interdisciplinary initiative, faculty in our small, private liberal arts university have been engaged in a months-long Faculty Learning Community (FLC) exploring the use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools. Attending weekly online seminars throughout the Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 semesters presented by the Council of Independent Colleges, participating faculty, from undergraduate, masters, and doctoral programs across disciplines were asked to implement the use of generative artificial intelligence (GAI) into course assignments. GAI is defined as any type of AI that uses deep learning models to generate or create new content (Bowen & Watson, 2024). A …
Psychology: Examining The Relationship Between Temperature Discrepancy And Reaction Speed, Jessica Berber, Yatri Patel, Yara Ali, Rileigh Schumacher
Psychology: Examining The Relationship Between Temperature Discrepancy And Reaction Speed, Jessica Berber, Yatri Patel, Yara Ali, Rileigh Schumacher
SPARK Symposium Presentations
Our study examines the interaction of temperature discrepancies and reaction speed in college students. Previous research suggests that temperature influences reaction time, with colder conditions generally slowing responses. However, comparatively little research has explored the effects of warmer temperatures on reaction speed. Therefore, the purpose of our study is to examine the relationship between temperature variation and reaction speed in college students. Participants will be recruited through word of mouth and the SONA pool. The SONA pool is used to recruit participants for studies, and they can sign up to fulfill course requirements or earn extra credit. In the Qualtrics …
Role Of Na⁺/K⁺-Atpase And Sodium–Calcium Exchanger In Digitoxin-Induced Cytotoxicity In Triple Negative Breast Cancer Cells, Alyson Sotomayor Quispe, Marilyn Odom Phd
Role Of Na⁺/K⁺-Atpase And Sodium–Calcium Exchanger In Digitoxin-Induced Cytotoxicity In Triple Negative Breast Cancer Cells, Alyson Sotomayor Quispe, Marilyn Odom Phd
SPARK Symposium Presentations
Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC) is characterized by the absence of estrogen, progesterone, and HER2 receptors, limiting targeted treatment options. Digitoxin, a drug used to treat heart failure and atrial fibrillation through Na⁺/K⁺-ATPase inhibition, has demonstrated anticancer effects in TNBC cells, including apoptosis via the NF-κB pathway. This study investigates whether the Na⁺/K⁺-ATPase and sodium–calcium exchanger contribute to the mechanism of action of digitoxin in TNBC cells. We hypothesize that these transporters mediate digitoxin-induced cytotoxic effects. To test this, MDA-MB-468 cells were treated with digitoxin, and protein localization and expression were analyzed using immunofluorescence and Western blot. Digitoxin treatment resulted …
Anxiety, Cognitive Load, And Simulation Effectiveness In Pre-Licensure Bsn Students, Brittany Behrens
Anxiety, Cognitive Load, And Simulation Effectiveness In Pre-Licensure Bsn Students, Brittany Behrens
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
High-fidelity simulation experiences are an integral component of pre-licensure nursing curricula, providing students with realistic, controlled environments to develop clinical judgement skills. While these simulations enhance learning, they can increase anxiety and cognitive load, potentially impairing students’ ability to process information and derive meaningful outcomes. The purpose of this quantitative, correlational study was to examine the relationships among pre-simulation anxiety, cognitive load, and perceived simulation effectiveness in pre-licensure BSN students. Data were collected from 90 participants using the shortened Spielberger State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), the Cognitive Load Measurement–Naïve Rating Questionnaire, and the Simulation Effectiveness Tool–Modified (SET-M). Pearson correlation analyses indicated …
The Epigenetic Effects Of Prenatal Diabetes On The Developing Vascular System- A Gsea Analysis, Daniel I. Telles Orellana
The Epigenetic Effects Of Prenatal Diabetes On The Developing Vascular System- A Gsea Analysis, Daniel I. Telles Orellana
SPARK Symposium Presentations
Prenatal diabetes is a critical medical condition that extensively affects neonatal patients and their families. Numerous previous studies have suggested impairments in vascular development, size, and diversification; however, the molecular and gene regulatory mechanisms underlying these effects remain poorly understood. Understanding these mechanisms is essential for identifying potential therapeutic targets and improving treatment strategies. This study combined experimental zebrafish phenotypic analysis with re-analysis of publicly available RNA-seq data to investigate the effects of elevated glucose on embryonic vascular development. Zebrafish (Danio rerio) embryos were exposed to increasing glucose concentrations (1–3%) during early developmental stages. High glucose exposure showed …
