Senior Stories: Using Biblio-Therapy To Shape Positive Perceptions Of Senior Adults In Teacher Education Program And Multigenerational Settings, Linda Karges-Bone
Teacher Education Journal of South Carolina
Biblio-therapy is a powerful tool in the hands of educators. Those who prepare future teachers can benefit from a more broad exposure to biblio-therapy as it relates to the treatment of senior adults. Too often, seniors are seen as weak, passive, and powerless. The bias of ageism has the potential to negatively influence perceptions of seniors by themselves and others. The model outlined in this article offers 1) opportunities to use biblio-therapy in a collaborative way in senior adult and school age populations; and 2) a more balanced and healthy perception of senior adults in children's literature choices.

Teacher Education Journal of South Carolina
In June 2013 the U. S. Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights (OCR) urged secondary schools to do more to help the hundreds of students who become mothers and fathers each year graduate from high school. With the same intent, in 2012-2013, we conducted a qualitative phenomenological study investigating the educational experiences of teen mothers who graduated from high school and attended or completed college and sought to discover the factors that contributed to their success. The research question that guided our study was: What is the educational experience of teen mothers who graduated from high school and attended …

Journal of the Saudi Heart Association
Acute fulminant myocarditis represents a severe complication of myocarditis, necessitating early suspicion and intervention for improved patient outcomes. Influenza B-induced myocarditis remains a relatively rare entity. A young lady presented to the emergency department with symptoms of heart failure and cardiogenic shock, requiring inotropes without significant improvement. For the continued deterioration of her hemodynamics, she underwent mechanical circulatory support, including Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) and Intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP). The follow-up investigations showed positive influenza B. She was treated with antiviral therapy and steroids, resulting in gradual improvement in hemodynamics and left ventricular ejection fraction

Characteristics And Mechanisms Of The Adsorption Of Shales For Ba2+ In Fracturing Fluids, Xie Chenyang, Liu Bo, Zhang Yuting, Zhu Fang
Coal Geology & Exploration
Objectives and Methods Large-scale hydraulic fracturing represents a key technology for shale gas exploitation. However, engineering practices indicate that the flowback rates of fracturing fluids are low and vary significantly across different blocks. Furthermore, some components in fracturing fluids may cause groundwater contamination. To explore the adsorption characteristics and mechanisms of Ba2+ within fracturing fluids in shale reservoirs, this study investigated four typical types of samples, including shale and three shale samples with different compositions, from the Longmaxi Formation in the Changning Block, southern Sichuan Basin. Systematic experiments were conducted on the adsorption of shales with different mineral …

Cbx6-Ca9 Axis: An Epigenetic-Metabolic Vulnerability In Glioblastoma, Keykavous Parang
Pharmacy Faculty Articles and Research
Glioblastoma (GBM) remains one of the most therapeutically recalcitrant malignancies, with median survival rarely exceeding 15 months despite maximal therapy.1 The hypoxic tumor microenvironment drives treatment resistance through epigenetic and metabolic adaptations.2
In this issue of Molecular Therapy Oncology, the study by Wang et al.3 demonstrates a novel regulatory axis between CBX6 (chromobox 6), a polycomb group protein, and CA9 (carbonic anhydrase 9), revealing how hypoxia-driven epigenetic reprogramming promotes tumor progression and identifying a mechanistically linked pathway for therapeutic intervention in GBM.
The study by Wang et al.3 advances our understanding of how the tumor microenvironment …

Media Forensics Hub Creative Inquiry Reports
For this project our team expanded our search for inauthentic actors to new locations, specifically Bluesky. With the help of internet watchdogs Antibot4Navalny and dTeam, we began investigating a network known as “Matryoshka”1, aka “Operation Overload”2, aka “Storm-1679.”3 We discovered the network was stealing the identities of moderately known people of influence ranging from political candidates to university staff members. Because Twitter/X users had not created versions of themselves on Bluesky, due to its relatively new arrival on the social media scene, their identities were ripe for the taking by nefarious actors. During the time we observed this campaign (January …

Clinical Judgment At Full Gallop: The Power Of Hospital-Based Simulation, Laura Janssen, Lisa Resch, Nichole Lauf, Chelsea Rolain, Stephanie Zidek
Nursing
Inputs: Clinical judgement is one of the most heavily examined topics in nursing research. The pandemic added complexity, forcing academia to pivot from classroom to virtual delivery, canceling and restricting clinicals, replacing patient care with simulation, and transitioning to remote skills labs. This accommodating curriculum resulted in declining NCLEX pass rates, new graduate learning gaps, decreased confidence, and stifled clinical judgement. Academia and health care organizations are recovering, and clinical judgement remains a top priority for nursing students and graduates. Our hospital has a unique opportunity to inspect clinical judgment firsthand through a partnership with a local baccalaureate nursing program …

Toward the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, many reports described increasing group A streptococcal (GAS) infections. We sought to describe pandemic-associated changes in GAS clinical and molecular epidemiology. GAS isolates were collected from Texas Children's Hospital laboratory from 01 January 2013 to 31 December 2023 and grouped into pre-pandemic (2013-2019) and pandemic (2020-2023) periods. Invasive (INV), skin and soft tissue infection (SSTI), and pharyngeal (PHG) disease types were determined by medical record review. All isolates were emm typed, and nonsusceptibility (NS) to tetracycline, erythromycin, and clindamycin was determined using standard methods. We analyzed 2,717 isolates (pre-pandemic, n = 1,640; pandemic, …

The early detection of potential side effects (SEs) is a critical yet formidable challenge within the realms of drug development and patient healthcare management. Conventional in-vitro or in-vivo approaches for SE detection are often not feasible to scale during the preclinical phase for numerous drug candidates. Innovations in explainable artificial intelligence offer the prospect of early detection of potential SEs for novel therapeutics prior to their release in the market, as well as the explication of the underlying biological mechanisms. In this context, we present a novel biologically informed graph-based model, called HHAN-DSI, which capitalizes on multimodal interactions among molecular …

Spatial Narrative Beyond The Proscenium: Set Design As A Tool For Wellness, Christina Griffey
LSU Master's Theses
Inspired by a health crisis that led to spending time in medical settings, this thesis examines how our surroundings impact our well-being. By developing a framework that explores the topics of storytelling, space, place, theatre, and expanded scenography, I propose that set design can be used as a tool for wellness. I explore several disciplines through the lens of set design and highlight the disciplines, professionals, and designers that are contributing to the creation of therapeutic environments using scenographic practices.
