Statistical Methods For Evaluating Treatment Effects From Surgical Registry Data, Hang Nguyen
Statistical Methods For Evaluating Treatment Effects From Surgical Registry Data, Hang Nguyen
Statistical Science Theses and Dissertations
Thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) is a commonly used, minimally invasive approach for treatment of thoracic aortic aneurysms (TAA). As there have been no randomized clinical trials, we often extract information for this treatment from observational data, such as the Vascular Quality Initiative registry of TEVAR patients. However, evaluating the effectiveness of the treatment using observational data can be challenging when there is no data on the untreated group (e.g TEVAR registry), and no reliable information on the cause of death. To address these issues, we propose using the relative survival approach, in which one estimates the excess mortality hazard …

The Influence Of Peri-Cervical Dentin Conservation On The Propagation Of Cracks In Mandibular Molars, Hassanain Zaheer
The Influence Of Peri-Cervical Dentin Conservation On The Propagation Of Cracks In Mandibular Molars, Hassanain Zaheer
Master's Theses (1922-2009) Access restricted to Marquette Campus
Introduction: The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of peri-cervical dentin conservation during root canal treatment on the longitudinal propagation of cracks, utilizing the finite element method. Methods: Two 3D printed mandibular molars were subjected to a simulated root canal therapy protocol. The teeth were divided into two test groups: Group 1: Instrumented with using Protaper Gold (PTG) rotary files. Group 2: Instrumented with using TruNatomy. Each access was restored with composite at the level of the CEJ to the occlusal surface. The two teeth were digitized using a high-resolution micro–computed tomographic scan to create 3-D models …
Improving Burnout And Stress Among Advanced Practice Nurses Using Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Techniques, Nancy Bennett, Jennifer Boose
Improving Burnout And Stress Among Advanced Practice Nurses Using Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Techniques, Nancy Bennett, Jennifer Boose
Doctoral Projects
Stress and burnout in the nursing profession have negative effects on the nurses' personal and professional lives, as well as those whom they are responsible for providing care. The incidence of stress among advanced practice nurses can result in outcomes such as burnout, turnover intention, lower job satisfaction, and adverse clinical care.
Nursing burnout and stress are public health issues because of the consequences of these two factors, which include diminished provider focus and negative patient outcomes. Against such a background, the doctoral aimed at using mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) intervention to reduce burnout and stress and examine the efficacy …

Preferences Of Adults With Turner Syndrome Regarding Disclosure Of Potential Neurodevelopmental And Psychiatric Features, Elizabeth Pancake
Preferences Of Adults With Turner Syndrome Regarding Disclosure Of Potential Neurodevelopmental And Psychiatric Features, Elizabeth Pancake
Theses and Dissertations
This study aimed to assess preferences of adults with Turner Syndrome (TS) regarding provider disclosure and discussion of potential neurodevelopmental or psychiatric features.
Fifty-six individuals with TS completed an online survey. Questions were asked about their TS diagnosis and provider involvement, neurodevelopmental and psychiatric diagnoses, and preferences concerning providers’ disclosure regarding these possible non-physical features.
Sixteen individuals reported a formal neurodevelopmental diagnosis. Furthermore, 46 respondents reported personal suspicion of ADHD, math difficulties, weaker non-verbal or visual-spatial skills, intellectual disability, or autism spectrum disorder. Thirty-five individuals had a formal diagnosis of at least one psychiatric condition. The preferred providers to initiate …
Face Validation Of A Spanish Non-Invasive Prenatal Screening Knowledge Scale, Kenya Michelle De Leon
Face Validation Of A Spanish Non-Invasive Prenatal Screening Knowledge Scale, Kenya Michelle De Leon
Theses and Dissertations
Non-invasive prenatal screening (NIPS) provides risk assessment for chromosome aneuploidy in pregnancy. Previous studies in the United Kingdom and United States have attempted to measure patient knowledge, decisional conflict, and informed choice in cohorts of English-speaking pregnant patients who elected NIPS (Griffin et al., 2023; Lewis et al., 2016). However, knowledge scales utilized in these studies have not been validated. The current study was conducted in order to assess face validity of a Spanish NIPS knowledge scale that was originally written in English. This scale was developed as part of a larger project to ultimately provide more validated research measures …
Effect Of Action Selection Demands On The Execution Of Goal-Directed Reaches, James Garrison Riedy
Effect Of Action Selection Demands On The Execution Of Goal-Directed Reaches, James Garrison Riedy
Theses and Dissertations
A well-studied model of cognitive motor function is the process of action selection. It is unclear how the planning demands of a reaching movement interact with the added complexity of s election. Therefore, this thesis investigated the effect of adding selection demands to the performance of skilled reaches in a virtual environment. Thirty young, healthy participants reached ipsilaterally or contralaterally with either their dominant (right hand) or non-dominant (left hand) under two conditions: execute only (EO) and action selection (AS). Selection accuracy was higher for the EO condition than the AS condition for both arms and both directions (left arm: …
A Qualitative Study On Mental Health Resource Utilization Of Enlisted Airmen During The Covid-19 Pandemic, Hassahn Khali Wade
A Qualitative Study On Mental Health Resource Utilization Of Enlisted Airmen During The Covid-19 Pandemic, Hassahn Khali Wade
Theses and Dissertations
This qualitative action research study examines the impact of COVID-19 on Airmen serving in the aircraft armament systems career field, while also studying the utilization of mental health resources among those same Airmen. Nine Airmen chose to participate in interviews, received an intervention in the form of a resource guide outlining mental health resources offered on-base, and received a second interview to measure any changes in attitude. Respondents found COVID-19 impacted their workload negatively, and adversely affected their personal lives. Culturally, there is an unenthusiastic viewpoint on mental health assistance, which leads many Airmen to suffer in silence and not …
Navigating The Personal Statement In An Upper-Middle-Class Community, Natalia Abbate , '23
Navigating The Personal Statement In An Upper-Middle-Class Community, Natalia Abbate , '23
Senior Theses, Projects, and Awards
This thesis examines college application choices, conceptions of pressure and ambition, and parenting styles as they affect personal statement success in an upper-middle-class suburb of Massachusetts. I draw on Pierre Bourdieu’s theory of cultural capital and Adrie Kusserow’s theory of soft individualism to analyze five semi-structured interviews with Eastborough, MA parents, students, and a private college counselor. I show that Eastborough parents and students stigmatize peers with overt college ambitions despite enacting ambition themselves. They represent their soft individualism approach as a potential sacrifice for college chances, but it ultimately provides students with two things that college admissions officers value …
