Middle Georgia Justice—Closing The Justice Gap, William P. Adams, Amy Griffith Dever
Middle Georgia Justice—Closing The Justice Gap, William P. Adams, Amy Griffith Dever
Mercer Law Review
The justice gap in middle Georgia is large and causes harm to the entire community, not just the citizens denied access to meaningful legal remedies. Self‑represented litigants create problems for the courts by clogging the dockets and for themselves due to bad outcomes. The ideal of a lawyer representing every litigant is not obtainable. The substantial amount of unmet legal needs in our community easily overwhelms the limited availability of pro bono legal services. As a result, non‑profit agencies in Macon, Georgia such as Middle Georgia Justice, Georgia Legal Services Program, and Crisis Line & Safe House step up to …
The Poison Drips Through: Scotus Thins Anti-Discrimination Rights In Wake Of Legislative Attacks On The Lgbtq+ Community, Emma Blue
Mercer Law Review
Anti‑LGBTQ+ legislation has surged to a record high through state legislatures with more than 500 bills introduced and nearly 100 laws signed in 2023 alone. The overwhelming rise in targeted legislation has led the Human Rights Campaign, the largest LGBTQ+ civil rights organization in the United States, to officially declare a state of emergency for the LGBTQ+ community for the first time. The legislative attacks have branched across the nation, from curriculum to performance, seeking to ban books from schools and libraries, as well as banning public drag shows. The First Amendment of the United States Constitution has been turned …

Testing A Reflection Education Intervention On Baccalaureate Nursing Students' Level Of Reflection During Online Clinical Post Conference, Jaime Hannans
Dissertations
The majority of faculty-student interactions are at low cognitive levels during nursing clinical post conference (CPC), a time often utilized for reflective thinking. Strategies have been implemented to promote or even teach reflection, but the level of reflection or impact of the intervention in nursing, such as the relationship to student attributes or clinical reasoning, is often not evaluated.
The specific aims of this study are to (a) test the effect of a reflection education intervention on the baccalaureate students' level of reflection during online CPC, (b) examine the relationship between student attributes and level of reflection, and (c) examine …

Personal Dosimeter Testing For High Altitude Air Crew, Seth D. Bacon
Theses and Dissertations
In 2014 the Thermo Scientific N2 electronic personal dosimeter became the aircrews’ sole means to record ionizing radiation dose. The production of this dosimeter was discontinued in July of 2021, motivating the Air Force to seek a flight-certifiable replacement. The Thermo Scientific Trudose NG, Mirion DMC 3000, and Fuji NRF-51 electronic personal dosimeters, as well as the Landauer InLight optically stimulated luminescent dosimeter, were subjected to mixed gamma and fast neutron fields simulating a high-altitude flight environment. Dosimeters are evaluated on their consistency and accuracy in reporting dose and compared to the current N2 dosimeter’s reported dose.

BACKGROUND: This manuscript provides a summary of the current evidence to support the criteria for diagnosing a child or adult with hypophosphatasia (HPP). The diagnosis of HPP is made on the basis of integrating clinical features, laboratory profile, radiographic features of the condition, and DNA analysis identifying the presence of a pathogenic variant of the tissue nonspecific alkaline phosphatase gene (ALPL). Often, the diagnosis of HPP is significantly delayed in both adults and children, and updated diagnostic criteria are required to keep pace with our evolving understanding regarding the relationship between ALPL genotype and associated HPP clinical features.

Intellectual disability (ID) commonly co-occurs in children with autism. Although diagnostic criteria for ID require impairments in both cognitive and adaptive functioning, most population-based estimates of the frequency of co-occurring ID in children with autism-including studies of racial and ethnic disparities in co-occurring autism and ID-base the definition of ID solely on cognitive scores. The goal of this analysis was to examine the effect of including both cognitive and adaptive behavior criteria on estimates of co-occurring ID in a well-characterized sample of 2- to 5-year-old children with autism. Participants included 3264 children with research or community diagnoses of autism enrolled …

Characterization Of Per- And Polyflouroalkyl Substances In Aqueous Filmforming Foam Wash Waters, John M. Diskin
Theses and Dissertations
The fiscal year 2020 National Defense Authorization Act mandated the publication of a military specification for a fluorine-free firefighting foam available for use no later than October 1, 2023. Replacing AFFF with a fluorine-free alternative creates the issue of decontaminating current firefighting infrastructure of residual PFAS without replacing these systems. To eliminate outstanding PFAS, the proposed solution is to drain the AFFF from current fire suppression systems and flush the plumbing three times with uncontaminated water. This study tested the efficacy of the triple rinse method by conducting scaled down experiments on a variety of plumbing components from a retired …
