Objectives: To ascertain the prevalence of transfusion transmissible infections (TTIs) across diverse donor groups in the Najran province. Additionally, to establish a potential association between the development of TTI and the donors’ blood group, as determined by the ABO/Rh blood grouping system. Methods: Blood donation data of 4120 donors, spanning from January to December 2020, were retrospectively reviewed. The blood were screened for TTI markers, including hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg), anti-hepatitis B core (anti-HBc), anti-hepatitis C virus (anti-HCV), anti-human immunodeficiency viruses 1 and 2 (anti-HIV1&2), anti-human T-lymphotropic virus types 1 and 2 (anti-HTLV-1&2), and syphilis antigen. Results: Positive TTI …

The Blessed Assembly: Irreplaceable Physical Co-Presence In Worship And Healthy Hybridity Reimagined After The Pandemic In The Digital Age, Yvette, Ying Wai Lau Jul 2024

The Blessed Assembly: Irreplaceable Physical Co-Presence In Worship And Healthy Hybridity Reimagined After The Pandemic In The Digital Age, Yvette, Ying Wai Lau

Doctor of Pastoral Music Projects and Theses

Because of the unprecedented and unexpected force of the pandemic since 2020, most churches around the world have experienced some online worship during the lockdown of their cities or the mandated closure of the church buildings. For many people, online worship seems to be an equivalent, if not better, alternative for gathering together—a physical co-presence in worship—even after the pandemic has ended. As necessary and vital as online worship experiences have been for Christians during the pandemic, the witness of the church from Pentecost throughout Christian history indicates that gathered worship in physical spaces is irreplaceable for faith formation and …

Confrontation, The Legacy Of Crawford, And Important Unanswered Questions, Paul F. Rothstein, Ronald J. Coleman Jul 2024

Confrontation, The Legacy Of Crawford, And Important Unanswered Questions, Paul F. Rothstein, Ronald J. Coleman

Georgetown Law Faculty Publications and Other Works

The right to confront has a long history. In the United States, the Confrontation Clause provides: “In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right… to be confronted with the witnesses against him[.]” One of the most troublesome areas of Confrontation Clause jurisprudence has been the Clause’s application to “hearsay statements offered against a criminal defendant pursuant to a hearsay exception or exemption[.]” The Supreme Court’s confrontation analysis in this situation once hinged on the statement’s reliability, with the traditional hearsay rule and its exceptions and exemptions as a guide. But in Crawford v. Washington, the Court considered …

Utilizing Digital Health Technologies To Promote Engagement In Behavioral Health Treatment Among Adults With Major Depressive Disorder, Lauren Collier Jul 2024

Utilizing Digital Health Technologies To Promote Engagement In Behavioral Health Treatment Among Adults With Major Depressive Disorder, Lauren Collier

Doctor of Nursing Practice Scholarly Projects

Background: Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) is extremely common and is difficult to treat. Evidenced-based interventions, promising medications, and care provided by experienced clinicians can be ineffective when patients disengage from treatment. Within an outpatient behavioral health program, low engagement in treatment among adult patients diagnosed with MDD negatively affects patient outcomes while contributing to provider burden. The most promising intervention to increase patient engagement based on evidence and needs of the local site is utilizing digital health technologies (DHTs), such as an online or smart-phone application.

Methods: Telehealth treatment augmented with digital health technologies among adult patients diagnosed …

Increasing Colorectal Cancer Screening Rates In Adults Aged 45-49 At An Urban Fqhc: A Quality Improvement Project, Meredith Gentes

Doctor of Nursing Practice Scholarly Projects

Abstract

Background: The United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) now recommends that colorectal screening begins at age 45 rather than 50. The purpose of this QI project was to improve colorectal cancer screening rates in adults to prevent diagnosis, promote earlier detection, and reduce mortality from colorectal cancer.

Local Problem: This QI project was completed at a large urban federally qualified health center (FQHC) that served a diverse and underserved population. Its colorectal cancer screening rate for adults aged 45 to 49 was low compared to older adults (50-75) and national standards.

Methods: A literature review identified technology-based outreach …

Imperfect Insanity And Diminished Responsibility, E. Lea Johnston Jul 2024

Imperfect Insanity And Diminished Responsibility, E. Lea Johnston

UF Law Faculty Publications

Insanity’s status as an all-or-nothing excuse results in the disproportionate punishment of individuals whose mental disorders significantly impaired, but did not obliterate, their capacities for criminal responsibility. Prohibiting the trier of fact from considering impairment that does not meet the narrow definition of insanity contradicts commonly held intuitions about mental abnormality and gradations of responsibility. It results in systemic over-punishment, juror frustration, and, at times, arbitrary verdicts as triers of fact attempt to better apportion liability to blameworthiness.

This Article proposes a generic partial excuse: Diminished Responsibility from Mental Disability. This excuse could be asserted as an affirmative defense at …

Comparing The Efficacy Of Heart-Conserving Measures And Retransplantation For Chronic Rejection In The Pediatric Population, Lacey Zeiszler

Physician Assistant Scholarly Project Posters

Coronary allograft vasculopathy is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality among pediatric heart transplant recipients and faces unsuccessful treatment for prevention and management. Post-transplant immunosuppressive therapy has been modified over the years to determine the most effective regimen for rejection. Tacrolimus has been the superior immunosuppressant used for rejection since the early 2000s. It has been shown to have substantial immunosuppressive effects, least number of adverse effects, and decreased comorbidities compared to other regimens. Despite these advantages, CAV is still prevalent. Heart retransplantation is currently the only curative treatment. Pathways Toward Healing: Examining The Role Of Emotion Regulation In Longitudinal Expressions Of Complicated Grief And Multisystemic Resilience Resources Among Bereaved Youth, Lacy Ellen Jamison

Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive

The death of a loved one is a profoundly impactful event, especially for youth who may lose a vital source of support during critical developmental stages. This study investigated the trajectories of complicated grief and multisystemic resilience resources among bereaved youth over a six-month period, considering the roles of emotion regulation strategies (expressive suppression and cognitive reappraisal), potentially traumatic events (PTEs), and various sociodemographic and loss-related factors. The present study utilized self-report data from treatment-seeking bereaved youth (N = 106). Parallel process latent growth curve modeling (PP-LGCM) was used to explore individual differences in grief and resilience trajectories. Post-hoc moderation …

Religiosity, Dietary Acculturation, And Obesity Among Immigrants To The United States, Samira Rahman Jul 2024

Religiosity, Dietary Acculturation, And Obesity Among Immigrants To The United States, Samira Rahman

Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive

Obesity, influenced by lifestyle choices, has risen sharply worldwide and is linked to diabetes, cancers, and cardiovascular diseases. Among U.S. immigrants, obesity risk often increases with acculturation to American practices. However, religious involvement and maintaining the origincountry diet may protect against obesity. Using 2003 New Immigrant Survey data, this study examines the relationship between religion and obesity among immigrants to the United States. Results show significant variations: Jewish immigrants have the highest obesity risk, while Buddhist immigrants have the lowest, due to cultural and dietary practices. Longer U.S. residence and older age correlate with higher obesity rates. The findings emphasize …

The Reliability Of Assessment During Learning, Blake Ryan Telfer Jul 2024

The Reliability Of Assessment During Learning, Blake Ryan Telfer

Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive

Maximizing the efficiency of testing for learning is an important educational goal (Schellekens et al., 2021). According to Portela et al. (2017), educational efficiency is achieved when learning and test results are generated with minimal resources and high efficacy. Traditionally in classrooms, feedback from tests is provided after a test is finished. However, research on the testing effect (Kang et al., 2007; Rowland, 2014) and studies on assessment during feedback (Chang & Li, 2019) suggest that educational efficiency can be enhanced by providing immediate feedback after each response. Our goal is to investigate whether immediate feedback during assessment affects the …

Understanding The Emotional Experiences Of Female International Graduate Students., Esther Hinson

Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive

U.S. higher education is experiencing a continuous rise in international student enrolment, significantly among females. Studies have suggested that female international graduate students experience more difficulty during their early adjustment process which encompasses psychological and sociocultural. However, these studies often overlook the emotional impact on female international graduate students. This study uses the phenomenological approach to explore the emotional experiences of female international graduate students in the U.S. The findings provide a comprehensive understanding of the emotional experiences of female international graduate students’ adjustment trajectories, such as excitement, sadness, anxiety, and fear during their adjustment process. By applying Bourdieu's theories …

Etsu Today - Summer 2024, University Marketing And Communication, East Tennessee State University

ETSU Today [magazine]

Earlier this summer, our Men's Golf Team competed for a national title, ultimately placing 12th in the nation among a field of 30 competitors comprising primarily state flagship institutions. It was ETSU's fourth straight appearance in the NCAA Men's Golf Tournament, and we are one of just nine programs in the country to accomplish that feat. Our golf team's ability to compete at an elite level against far larger schools is outstanding. But it is not unique — at least not at ETSU. Our students, faculty, staff, and alumni are achieving national and international recognition in research, scholarship, athletics, the …

Taxation Of Information And The Data Revolution, Yariv Brauner Jul 2024

Taxation Of Information And The Data Revolution, Yariv Brauner

UF Law Faculty Publications

Existing and universal income tax rules are inherently incompatible with an economy in which information-based transactions play a significant role. This Article contends that income taxation is incapable of taxing information effectively. It goes on to argue that this incapability currently necessitates reform, and it offers three viable paths to such reform: consumption taxation, data taxes, and formulary taxation. The Article concludes that formulary taxation is currently the most desirable and plausible path to effective reform, owing to its promise to best stabilize and maintain the legitimacy of the international tax regime.

Ombuds Programs: How Alternative Dispute Resolution Improves The Lives Of Native Long-Term Care Residents, Brett Newberry

Journal of Dispute Resolution

Many Americans will spend at least some time in a long-term care facility. During their stay, every resident should receive competent care and maintain the highest possible quality of life. Long-term care ombuds programs exist to help achieve these goals. Long-term care ombuds (“LTCOs”) advocate for individuals living in long-term care facilities and for improvements to the long-term care system. Tribal long-term care ombuds are a subset of LTCOs who connect with and advocate for Native residents living in long-term care facilities. LTCOs help facilitate dispute resolution between residents, facilities, and family members, and work to improve resident care. The …

Exempting The Fmla From Forced Arbitration: The Need For Special Consideration Of Pregnant And Working Mothers To Achieve Gender Equality In The Workplace, Taylor Trefger Jul 2024

Exempting The Fmla From Forced Arbitration: The Need For Special Consideration Of Pregnant And Working Mothers To Achieve Gender Equality In The Workplace, Taylor Trefger

Journal of Dispute Resolution

Pregnant and working mothers face a multitude of challenges when making decisions that pertain to their health, children, and their livelihoods. Historically, women have encountered numerous barriers regarding their entrance and treatment in the United States labor force as a result of gender discrimination that promotes the idea that women, in their inherent ability to become mothers, renders them inadequate or inferior workers in comparison to men. Unfortunately, such archaic notions of gender roles persist still; today, the reality is that women are more likely to be employed part-time, occupy lower-paid roles, and are less likely to take on managerial …

Explaining The Comprehensive Immigration Reform Stalemate In Congress, Maryam T. Stevenson Jul 2024

Explaining The Comprehensive Immigration Reform Stalemate In Congress, Maryam T. Stevenson

Catholic University Law Review

Historically, congressional policy goals on immigration have vacillated from open to restrictive as various micro and macro level factors have changed both inside and outside the Beltway. While Congress has been subjected to some immigration lobbies over time, it has largely been isolated from a general public opinion on immigration policy until fairly recently. Specifically, while Congress was successful at passing a variety of immigration policies through 1990 without much regard to public opinion, it has since failed even amid bipartisan congressional and presidential support. This article will offer a number of theories in order to explain why Congress has …

Dude, Where’S My Data? A Legislative Band-Aid For Data Brokers’ Bullet Hole In Consumer Privacy Protection, Emily Bushman

Catholic University Law Review

The development and proliferation of the Internet, GPS, cell phones, social media, and the associated data that support these now ubiquitous technologies have created a new ecosystem of information making up a person’s digital identity. Our digital footprints have traditionally been subject to different levels of privacy protection depending upon the kind of data at issue. Over time, court decisions have revealed tensions and a lack of consistency on the question of how the protections guaranteed by the Fourth Amendment apply to an individual’s digital footprint and their reasonable expectations of privacy over it. This Comment will examine the gaps …
