Skin cancer prognosis has greatly improved recently due to the introduction of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs). However, many patients with advanced skin cancer still experience immunotherapy resistance and disease progression during ICI treatment, thus calling for novel therapeutics which address this treatment gap. Talimogene laherparepvec (T-VEC) has gained popularity in recent years as a viable treatment option for patients with skin cancer. In preclinical studies, T-VEC demonstrated both a direct anti-tumor effect in injected lesions as well as a systemic immune-mediated effect in non-injected lesions, which could pose additional benefits when combined with ICI therapy. Following promising results from the …

2020-Current year OA Pubs

Patients with large B-cell lymphoma (LBCL) that fail to achieve a complete response (CR) or who relapse early after anthracycline-containing immunochemotherapy (IC) have a poor prognosis and are commonly considered to have "primary refractory disease." However, different definitions of primary refractory disease are used in the literature and clinical practice. In this study, we examined variation in the time to relapse used to define refractory status and association with survival outcomes in patients with primary refractory LBCL in a single-center prospective cohort with validation in an independent multicenter cohort. Patients with newly diagnosed LBCL were enrolled in the Molecular Epidemiological …

Children with sickle cell anemia (SCA) are at increased risk of stroke when compared with their age-based counterparts. The Stroke Prevention Trial in Sickle Cell Anemia (STOP) previously demonstrated that with the use of transcranial Doppler ultrasound (TCD; Sickle Stroke Screen) and chronic red cell transfusion, the risk of stroke is reduced by over 90%. The STOP criteria detailed the type and method of measurement required; the time-averaged mean maximum velocity (TAMMV). Unfortunately, it has been difficult to adhere to the appropriate TAMMV measurements. The objectives of this study were to assess the quality of TCD and transcranial Doppler imaging …

Little is known about risk factors for central nervous system (CNS) relapse in mature T-cell and natural killer cell neoplasms (MTNKNs). We aimed to describe the clinical epidemiology of CNS relapse in patients with MTNKN and developed the CNS relapse In T-cell lymphoma Index (CITI) to predict patients at the highest risk of CNS relapse. We reviewed data from 135 patients with MTNKN and CNS relapse from 19 North American institutions. After exclusion of leukemic and most cutaneous forms of MTNKNs, patients were pooled with non-CNS relapse control patients from a single institution to create a CNS relapse-enriched training set. …

From Cnns To Transformers In Multimodal Human Action Recognition: A Survey, Muhammad Bilal Shaikh, Douglas Chai, Syed Muhammad Shamsul Islam, Naveed Akhtar

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Due to its widespread applications, human action recognition is one of the most widely studied research problems in Computer Vision. Recent studies have shown that addressing it using multimodal data leads to superior performance as compared to relying on a single data modality. During the adoption of deep learning for visual modelling in the past decade, action recognition approaches have mainly relied on Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs). However, the recent rise of Transformers in visual modelling is now also causing a paradigm shift for the action recognition task. This survey captures this transition while focusing on Multimodal Human Action Recognition …

Bulletin of Faculty of Pharmacy Cairo University

Background: Biologics have provided enhanced clinical advantages, but at expense of enormous expenditures. The exorbitant expense of biologics was somewhat mitigated by the development of biosimilars. But biosimilars market access is still recessed in many countries including Egypt. To achieve biosimilars market sustainability, countries need to evaluate the health economic barriers that biosimilars face in gaining market access.

Methods: A retrospective budget impact analysis was conducted to compare the cost of biosimilars to that of their reference biologics from Egyptian regulatory perspective over a five-year period (2018-2022). Time series forecasting analysis was conducted to predict the cost savings …

Blue Economy

Water, an essential resource for sustaining life on our planet, is crucial for both human beings and the overall ecosystem. However, in recent decades, several factors, including population growth, rapid industrialization, urbanization, and unsustainable utilization of natural resources, have significantly impacted the quality of water. Industries such as textiles, leather tanning, cosmetics, and pigmentation extensively employ colored compounds called dyes for various purposes. Synthetic dyes have largely replaced natural dyes due to their superior durability against washing, heat, light, pH, and exposure to biological agents. Azo dyes, sulfur dyes, and pigment dyes are some examples of dyes used in industrial …

Beef Production From Grazed Grass And Grass/Clover Swards, Edward G. O'Riordan Jul 2024

Beef Production From Grazed Grass And Grass/Clover Swards, Edward G. O'Riordan

IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)

grazed grass (fertiliser nitrogen treated) and grass/clover swards, during two grazing seasons which extended from early-April until mid-November. Both permanent (Treatments A, B and C) and reseeded (Treatment D, E and F) swards were respectively stocked with 3000, 2500 and 2000 kg liveweight/ha in Spring using fifteen steers/treatment (liveweight = 570kg/head). There were small and generally non-significant treatment effects on final liveweight in both years, but heavier carcasses were observed on the reseeded swards (P<0.05). Clover based swards (Treatments B, C and E, F) produced heavier carcasses (P<0.05) than the nitrogen fertilised grass swards (Treatments A and D). Pasture production ranged from 7540 to 10,469 and from 6360 to 11,606 kg DM/ha in year 1 and 2 respectively, with highest yields being observed on the nitrogen fertilised treatment and on the reseeded swards.

Zea Mays Grazing In Cattle Production Systems, V Mundy, B E. Anderson, T L. Gompert, T L. Mader, C A. Shapiro

IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)

Nebraska producers have used silage maize (Zea mays L.) hybrids as a grazed forage in dairy and beef production systems. In an onfarm case study, farmers and researchers collaborated to gather information on production practices, grazing management, and plant characteristics of grazing maize within three forage-based dairy and beef systems. Production practices were generally similar to conventional grain corn production, except that in one system maize was seeded directly into a suppressed grass sod. Milk production from grazing maize was 23 kg/day/animal, compared to 24 kg/day/ animal before using maize and 22 kg/day/animal after using maize. Average gain of …

Eu Energy Solidarity As A Way Of Implementing Just Transition In Energy Policy, Robert Zajdler Jul 2024

Eu Energy Solidarity As A Way Of Implementing Just Transition In Energy Policy, Robert Zajdler

Yearbook of Antitrust and Regulatory Studies

The principle of EU energy solidarity, regulated by Article 194 of the Lisbon Treaty, has created a new dimension of energy sector developments. Initially, it was treated as an abstract, purely political concept with no particular normative significance. However, the CJEU judgment in the OPAL case established energy solidarity as a principle of EU law, deriving, inter alia, from the principle of justice. The concept of just transition, based on the same foundations of justice, creates directions for socio-economic transformation based on a sustainable and low-carbon economy. Energy solidarity is, in fact, a way of implementing the assumptions and directions …

The Road To Energy Justice As A Result Of Interdisciplinary Cooperation In The Energy Policy Field, Michał Domagała, Katarzyna Maćkowska Jul 2024

The Road To Energy Justice As A Result Of Interdisciplinary Cooperation In The Energy Policy Field, Michał Domagała, Katarzyna Maćkowska

Yearbook of Antitrust and Regulatory Studies

This article pertains to the role of law in regulating the energy market. Justice and solidarity in this area require a debate that should not be fragmented but must, instead, take place in an interdisciplinary manner. The key question that arises relates to the role that the law should play in the area of energy transformation, and thus, whether it should only be a tool for the implementation of political plans and action strategies, or whether it should, in itself, stimulate or determine the transition framework, or be a regulator of transformation. The article tackles selected problems related to Demand …

Online Intermediaries And Sustainable Market Regulation – A Smart Mix Of Liability And Exemptions, Katarzyna Klafkowska-Waśniowska, Katja Weckström

Yearbook of Antitrust and Regulatory Studies

The Commission has advanced sustainable and responsible behaviour of business operators in the digital environment since the adoption of the Strategy for the Digital Single Market of 2015. The question remains, how can we reach the normative goal of ensuring a safe, secure and fair online environment, where fundamental rights are protected, and responsibilities of platforms, especially large players and gatekeepers, are well defined? A “smart mix” of mandatory and voluntary rules, in combination with industry self regulation, is applied to address business and fundamental rights. This paper asks how the Digital Services Act (DSA) answers the call for sustainable …

“The Role Of Modern Technologies In Effective Management Of Crowds”, Ayman El-Din

Journal of Police and Legal Sciences

Scientists started to think about the importance of developing crowd management methods, because of human gatherings - in different countries - have been accompanied by lots of disasters that have killed many and resulted in many injuries. Gathering crowd data is vital in the process of managing crowds, as crowd information contributes significantly to planning and decision-making processes and increasing communication between parties interacting with them, and data collected includes "the number of crowd members, crowd density, and problems that may occur”. Technology and technical awareness play an important role in “collecting, organizing, analyzing” real-time collected data of crowd. This …

Coastal Infrastructure And Climate Change Adaptation In Bangladesh: Ecosystem Services Insights From An Integrated Ses-Dapsir Framework, Md Monzer Hossain Sarker, Alberto Gabino Martínez-Hernández, Jesús Reyes Vásquez, Perla Rivadeneyra, Sebastian Sebastian Raimondo

Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei Working Papers

The escalating impacts of climate change on coastal regions stress the urgency for effective adaptation strategies, particularly for the case of high-risk countries such as Bangladesh. Nature-based solutions, grey and mixed coastal infrastructure offer promising solutions for addressing these challenges. Prior publications have utilized decision-making models such as the DPSIR framework to explore the link between coastal infrastructure and climate change. However, until now none of them have used it in combination with broader frameworks. Moreover, few works have analyzed the south central coast of Bangladesh by following an integrated approach. Hence, this working paper aims to bridge these gaps …
