All Is Well: Catastrophe And The Making Of The Normal State By Saptarishi Bandopadhyay, Tianchu Gao
All Is Well: Catastrophe And The Making Of The Normal State By Saptarishi Bandopadhyay, Tianchu Gao
Osgoode Hall Law Journal
AS PUBLIC HEALTH CONCERNS REGARDING the COVID-19 pandemic have ebbed, the media and politicians portrayed this change as a “return to normal.” Indeed, the pandemic years are seen as a state of exception from the normal condition. However, Saptarishi Bandopadhyay’s monograph, All Is Well: Catastrophe and the Making of the Normal State (“All Is Well”), questions the idea that disasters are exceptional events, and examines how this narrative can strengthen the power of the state.

K-3 Teachers’ Perspectives Of Response To Intervention In Closing Reading Achievement Gaps, Sarwat Suraiya
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
General education teachers are directly responsible for implementing the Response to Intervention (RTI) process to close achievement gaps for their struggling readers. The problem in this study was the experiences of K-3 teachers with inconsistent implementation of RTI to support struggling readers at a southeastern school. When the RTI process is not implemented consistently, results can adversely affect closing achievement gaps of struggling readers. The purpose of this basic qualitative study was to explore K-3 teachers’ experiences with inconsistent implementation of the RTI process for struggling readers in a southeastern school. This study was based on Ely’s conditions of change …
The Development And Testing Of An Instrument To Measure Perceptions Of Body Art Among Nurse Educators And Nursing Students, Deana M. Nunes
The Development And Testing Of An Instrument To Measure Perceptions Of Body Art Among Nurse Educators And Nursing Students, Deana M. Nunes
Dissertations
Increasing diversity in the nursing workforce is a national priority to better care for a diverse patient population and minimize healthcare disparities. Nurse educators teach students to practice with compassion and respect, recognizing the dignity, worth, individual choice, and unique attributes of all patients. Perceptions of nursing professionalism are heavily influenced by appearance. Many nursing programs restrict visible body art in their dress code policies based on long-held notions and negative stereotypes of individuals with body art. Shouldn't nursing students who choose to have body art receive the same respect and lack of judgment? A better understanding of nurse educators' …
An Applied Mental Health Course And Student Well-Being, Alison Nicole Anglen
An Applied Mental Health Course And Student Well-Being, Alison Nicole Anglen
Theses and Dissertations
Addressing mental health concerns and promoting well-being is imperative for university students to function optimally and to succeed academically. The demand for mental health care is exceeding the capacity of traditional counseling center resources at universities, suggesting the need for innovative interventions that can serve a broader scope of students. There is emerging evidence suggesting that mental health can be addressed, and well-being improved through psychoeducation and applied skills taught in classroom settings. Objectives: To examine a Mental Health and Well-Being course at a large, private religious university and its relationship to students’ well-being. This will be measured by assessing …

In Silico Analysis Of The Rop29 Protein As A Vaccine Candidate Against Toxoplasma Gondii, Amir Karimipour-Saryazdi, Fatemeh Ghaffarifar, Abdolhossein Dalimi, Masoud Foroutan, John Horton, Javid Sadraei
Faculty, Staff and Student Publications
The progression of Toxoplasma gondii (T. gondii) invasion is aided by rhoptry proteins (ROPs), which are also crucial for the parasite's survival in host cells. In this study, in silico analysis was performed to examine the various aspects of the ROP29 protein, such as physicochemical properties, potential T- and B-cell epitopes, and other significant features. The research revealed that there were 55 possible sites for posttranslational modification in the ROP29 protein. The secondary structure of the ROP29 protein consists of a random coil, an alpha-helix, and an extended strand, which account for 49.69%, 36.81%, and 13.50%, respectively. Moreover, …

In addition to focal lesions, diffusely abnormal white matter (DAWM) is seen on brain MRI of multiple sclerosis (MS) patients and may represent early or distinct disease processes. The role of MRI-observed DAWM is understudied due to a lack of automated assessment methods. Supervised deep learning (DL) methods are highly capable in this domain, but require large sets of labeled data. To overcome this challenge, a DL-based network (DAWM-Net) was trained using semi-supervised learning on a limited set of labeled data for segmentation of DAWM, focal lesions, and normal-appearing brain tissues on multiparametric MRI. DAWM-Net segmentation performance was compared to …

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a common neurodegenerative disorder with a significant risk proportion driven by genetics. While much progress has been made, most of the heritability remains unknown. This is in-part because previous genetic studies have focused on the contribution of single nucleotide variants. More complex forms of variation, such as structural variants and tandem repeats, are already associated with several synucleinopathies. However, because more sophisticated sequencing methods are usually required to detect these regions, little is understood regarding their contribution to PD. One example is a polymorphic CT-rich region in intron 4 of the SNCA gene. This haplotype has …
N-Myc And Stat Interactor Is An Endometriosis Suppressor, Yuri Park, Xiaoming Guan, Sang Jun Han
N-Myc And Stat Interactor Is An Endometriosis Suppressor, Yuri Park, Xiaoming Guan, Sang Jun Han
Faculty, Staff and Students Publications
In patients with endometriosis, refluxed endometrial fragments evade host immunosurveillance, developing into endometriotic lesions. However, the mechanisms underlying this evasion have not been fully elucidated. N-Myc and STAT Interactor (NMI) have been identified as key players in host immunosurveillance, including interferon (IFN)-induced cell death signaling pathways. NMI levels are markedly reduced in the stromal cells of human endometriotic lesions due to modulation by the Estrogen Receptor beta/Histone Deacetylase 8 axis. Knocking down NMI in immortalized human endometrial stromal cells (IHESCs) led to elevated RNA levels of genes involved in cell-to-cell adhesion and extracellular matrix signaling following IFNA treatment. Furthermore, NMI …

Penetrating Posterior Urethral Injuries: Case Report And Management Strategies, Seyed Sajjad Tabei, Brandon Lippold, Wesley Baas, Gregory Murphy
2020-Current year OA Pubs
Penetrating posterior urethral trauma from gunshot wounds (GSW) is rare and requires prompt treatment to minimize complications. Data regarding the management of such cases is scarce in the literature and poorly addressed in the guidelines. Different management approaches exist, including urinary diversion with immediate versus delayed urethroplasty/fistula repair. We present our case series to add to our experience to the literature. Three patients aged 18-44 presented with ballistic posterior urethra injuries from GSW. Initial management involved urethral catheter placement, with one patient requiring operative placement of urethral and suprapubic catheters (SPTs). Complications included recurrent membranous stricture, urinary retention, rectourethral fistula, …
Collective Attribution In Cyberspace: A Rebranded Version Of Attribution Does Not Make It More Effective, Dan Efrony
Collective Attribution In Cyberspace: A Rebranded Version Of Attribution Does Not Make It More Effective, Dan Efrony
International Law Studies
The international community has been unsuccessful in establishing an effective legal framework for holding States accountable for cyber wrongdoing. Instead, official political attribution—collectively denouncing States for irresponsible conduct in cyberspace—has become a common substitute to encourage compliance with voluntary non-binding international norms. Since December 2017, the United States and United Kingdom, along with their closest allies, have embraced and implemented collective attributions and responses. They thereby seek to shape “rules of the road” for responsible State behavior in cyberspace and to enhance accountability and deterrence. However, these attributions rely primarily on the outcomes of American and British attribution processes that …
