Small-scale fisherfolks contributed to the livelihood and economic aspects of the fishery sector in the region. However, they are vulnerable regarding potential risks and threats caused by various conditions. This study explored the vulnerability of fifty-two small-scale fisherfolks selected from six barangays near Laguna's Northern West Bay, Philippines. The case study design guided the data collection from multiple sources, including survey questionnaires, unstructured interviews, and document analysis for triangulation and analysis of fisherfolks' exposure, sensitivity, and adaptive capacity. Results show that there are indicators that contribute to the vulnerability of fisherfolk in terms of exposure, which involves hydrometeorological hazards, water …

The current trend in nature tourism has led to increased tourist visits to coastal areas, including destinations prone to disasters and previously exposed to tsunamis. This research, which aims to analyze the variables influencing tourists' desire to revisit disaster-prone areas, addresses a crucial and timely topic in tourism and disaster management. The research utilized a quantitative approach through a questionnaire-based survey of domestic tourists visiting the Pangandaran Beach Area in West Java, known for its susceptibility to tsunami disasters. The study involved 307 respondents who completed questionnaires between June and July 2023. Data analysis employed Partial Least Square – Structural …

Jurnal Sosial Humaniora Terapan
Public relations and stakeholder engagement at universities have been transformed by social media. According to several studies, colleges are using social media more and more to share information, advertise events, and project a positive image. Some claim, however, that colleges have not fully embraced the participatory features of social media and instead use it as a "spectator sport" for one-way communication. This study aims to analyze how social media helps build community and engagement for public relations purposes in the university. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach with a case study method. Data are collected through interviews and then …

Pacific Journal of Health
Objective: To assess the utility of guided imagery meditation (GIM) as a low-invasive, cost-effective modality to weight management. Researchers hypothesized that using a standardized, lifestyle-focused GIM would result in weight loss and waist circumference (WC) changes.
Design: Researchers designed a 12-week randomized, controlled pilot study in which participants were asked to use a provided GIM.
Setting: Comfort and relaxation are crucial for GIM. The study, therefore, utilized participants’ personal environments.
Participants: Convenient sampling of 82 students, faculty, and staff of the University of the Pacific.
Intervention(s): Intervention group participants were provided with a researcher-designed, lifestyle-focused …

Editor’S Note: The Coastal Business Journal’S Commitment To Coastal Communities, Mark Mitchell
The Coastal Business Journal
Approximately a third of the world’s population lives in a coastal region. While coastal communities comprise about 10% of the land mass of the contiguous United States (e.g., excluding Alaska and Hawaii), they are home to 40% of the U.S. population. From its inception, the Coastal Business Journal (CBJ) has sought to highlight research on issues pertaining to business administration and business development within coastal geographic regions. Looking forward, it is our desire to expand the availability of research pertaining to coastal communities in the pages of the CBJ. In the future, we hope researchers who conduct studies on coastal-related …
A Case Study For Enabling Autistic Students To Enter Best-Of-Class Career Programs In Science, Technology, Engineering, And Mathematics (Stem), James Lawler
The Coastal Business Journal
Over 5.4 million adults in the United States are identified as having autism as measured by the autism spectrum. Given the diagnostic diversity among autistic students, a high number of post-secondary institutions fail to meet the personal and specific needs of these students. This research advances an advocacy model for best-of-class post-secondary programs in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) in order to better serve autistic students. Application of the model allows autistic students, their families, and organizations advocating for them to better evaluate the features of post-secondary education programs in STEM. Ultimately, the model can be a guide to …

Obesity And Health Alarms: Is It Only About Food Deserts?, Rubina Vohra
The Coastal Business Journal
ABSTRACT
Society is well aware of the health impacts and societal costs of obesity. This study examines the variables that best predict obesity such as population, poverty, household income, education, unemployment, uninsured, and being a single parent. Simply ensuring and improving access to healthy food is an insufficient public policy. This study uses both descriptive and analytical methods and utilizes a comparison of a cross-section data set. The results show that access to healthy food had little impact on the obesity rate. Rather, a respondent’s race, poverty, and education are more significant predictors of obesity.

"Pearls And All": June Cleaver, Symbol And Myth, Judy Kutulas
Journal of 20th Century Media History
June Cleaver, the fictional matriarch of the Cleaver family on the 1950s/60s sitcom Leave it to Beaver has become a powerful symbol in American society, representing a particular version of motherhood that can be read as desirable or old-fashioned. How June became a symbol as well as a myth is what this article is about, a blend of series’ particulars, the continued willingness of the actor who played June, Barbara Billingsley, to play into the stereotype of June, the changing perspectives of boomers who watched her, and the changing possibilities of American women’s lives.

Assessing Consequences And Relevant Thresholds Of Seismic Events In Puerto Rico To Aid The Future Creation Of Consequence-Driven Scenarios, Yahaira D. Alvarez-Gandia
Geography ETDs
Puerto Rico frequently experiences damaging earthquakes due to its location on the northeastern margin of the Caribbean Plate. Its unique combination of factors, including high population, informal construction practices, and environmental risks, such as tsunamis or landslides, create a heightened risk of loss of life and property. Within this context, earthquake scenarios are vital communication, mitigation, and preparedness tools. They provide the opportunity to think critically about possible alternatives to reduce the risks and impacts of these unpredictable events. As an initial step for integrated earthquake scenario development, this study uses semi-structured interviews and the analysis of government reports to …

Increasing Reading Comprehension And Accuracy By Enhancing Reading Mechanics In Preadolescence: The Role Of Occupational Therapy In Academia, Shireena Behel
Department of Occupational Therapy Entry-Level Capstone Projects
Reading comprehension and accuracy are critical components of academic success in preadolescence. Research suggests that traditional school systems utilize a unisensory approach to learning, however, recent studies have emphasized the successful impact a multisensory approach can have on academic performance. This doctoral capstone project aimed to develop a multisensory, occupation-based reading program for the Huntsville Learning Center (HLC) Christian Summer Camp under the guidance of Mariana D’Amico, EdD, OTR/L, FAOTA, and Susan Callaway, HLC Family Development Coordinator. This required conducting pretest and post-test measurements, implementing occupation-based reading activities, and administering a post-program evaluation survey to determine the effectiveness of a …
