Maternal Decision Making And Children’S Nutritional Status: Evidence From Indonesia, Nadia Roswita, Teguh Dartanto
Jurnal Ekonomi Kependudukan dan Keluarga
Indonesia is encountering consecutive health problems caused by malnutrition. The latter poses long-term effects on children’s development. As this issue continue its prominence, using linear regression and binary logistic with time lag to analyze data from Indonesia Family Life Survey (IFLS) in 2007 and 2014 shall support the analysis of issue. Previous results from the models indicated that maternal decision-making in their share of food expenditure has a weak correlation for stunted children's experience. However, this study revealed different results. It suggested that involvement in from men in nutritional knowledge, skills, and financial backing to advance women's roles contributes to …

Information About Honey Fraud: Implications Of Information Choice For Consumer Behavior, Christopher R. Gustafson
Information About Honey Fraud: Implications Of Information Choice For Consumer Behavior, Christopher R. Gustafson
Cornhusker Economics
The study highlights that standard research practice—exposing participants to information—may not capture what will happen outside of the lab when people have a choice about what to read, view, or do with their time. While we found that having participants read about honey fraud significantly shifted their willingness to pay for local and domestic versus imported honey, we did not find those changes when people were able to select a text to read.
The implications of these findings extend beyond the issue of honey fraud to broader contexts of food safety, nutrition, and production techniques. While people have preferences for …

Salt consumption restriction has many advantages in patients on hemodialysis (HD), but it is also very challenging for them. Self-efficacy is a crucial aspect of successful disease management. Factors related to self-efficacy have been evaluated in many countries. However, the different demographic characteristics in Indonesia may show different significant results. Understanding this problem may contribute to the development of nursing interventions and the patients’ self-management ability while undergoing HD. Hence, the present study aimed to determine the factors associated with self-efficacy for restricting salt consumption among HD patients. Altogether, 98 HD patients participated in this cross-sectional study. The Self-efficacy for …
Sex Work, Antitrafficking, And Mobility, Simanti Dasgupta
Sex Work, Antitrafficking, And Mobility, Simanti Dasgupta
Sociology, Anthropology, and Social Work Faculty Publications
With the HIV/AIDS epidemic gripping the world in the 1990s and the resurgence of the antitrafficking discourse in the 2000s, the sex work/abolitionist debate took center stage. Proponents of sex work uphold the labor and livelihood paradigm based on consent; the abolitionists, on the other hand, dismiss sex work as work to posit prostitution as the paradigmatic example of patriarchal violence toward women. The latter routinely conflate sex work with trafficking, and the former sharply demarcates them. Above all, this debate poses a stubborn ideological divide among feminists with serious policy implications for both the worker and the victim, nationally …

Castor Oil-Based Polyurethane Adhesives: Effect Of Cross-Linker On The Bond Strength, Mayankkumar Chaudhary
Electronic Theses & Dissertations
Adhesives are important for binding diverse materials, promoting structural integrity and functional versatility in countless daily life applications. An enormous obstacle remains in the development of polyurethane (PU) adhesives exhibiting excellent bonding strength. Designing a chain extender with appropriate molecular structures is critical to improving the bonding strength of PU-based adhesives. In this work, PU-based adhesive was prepared using castor-oil-based polyol (COP) and diisocyanate. The bonding strength of the adhesive was improved by adding chain extenders such as N, N-bis(2-hydroxyethyl) thiophene-2,5-dicarboxamide (ETP) and N, N-Bis(2-hydroxyethyl)-terephthalamide (ETAM). The modified adhesive showed high bonding strength after the addition of chain extenders due …

While the surface-bulk correspondence has been ubiquitously shown in topological phases, the relationship between surface and bulk in Landau-like phases is much less explored. Theoretical investigations since 1970s for semi-infinite systems have predicted the possibility of the surface order emerging at a higher temperature than the bulk, clearly illustrating a counterintuitive situation and greatly enriching phase transitions. But experimental realizations of this prediction remain missing. Here, we demonstrate the higher-temperature surface and lower-temperature bulk phase transitions in CrSBr, a van der Waals (vdW) layered antiferromagnet. We leverage the surface sensitivity of electric dipole second harmonic generation (SHG) to resolve surface …

Prion diseases result from the misfolding of the physiological prion protein (PrPC) to a pathogenic conformation (PrPSc). Compelling evidence indicates that prevention and/or reduction of PrPSc replication are promising therapeutic strategies against prion diseases. However, the existence of different PrPSc conformations (or strains) associated with disease represents a major problem when identifying anti-prion compounds. Efforts to identify strain-specific anti-prion molecules are limited by the lack of biologically relevant high-throughput screening platforms to interrogate compound libraries. Here, we describe adaptations to the protein misfolding cyclic amplification (PMCA) technology (able to faithfully replicate PrPSc strains) that increase its throughput to facilitate the …

Cancer cells with BRCA1/2 deficiencies are sensitive to poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) inhibitors. We evaluated the efficacy of talazoparib in DNA-Damage Repair (DDR)-altered patients. In this phase II trial, patients were enrolled onto one of four cohorts based on molecular alterations: (1) somatic BRCA1/2, (2) other homologous recombination repair pathway, (3) PTEN and (4) germline BRCA1/2. The primary endpoint was a clinical benefit rate (CBR): complete response, partial response or stable disease ≥24 weeks. 79 patients with a median of 4 lines of therapy were enrolled. CBR for cohorts 1-4 were: 32.5%, 19.7%, 9.4% and 30.6%, respectively. PTEN mutations correlated …

How Housing Insecurity And Welfare Systems Retraumatize Women In Southern California, Yesika Menera
McNair Summer Research Program
Studies show that individuals experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity also experience trauma and mental illnesses. Despite this evidence, many resources provided through state welfare services seldom allocate sufficient funds and personnel to help address mental health. This study investigates the relationship between housing insecurity and trauma for adult women who have tried to access assistance throughout Southern California. To do this, I conducted in-depth interviews and DSM-5 questionnaires with twenty-six women during the summer of 2023 and 2024 via Zoom. My findings show that adult women who have experienced homelessness and housing insecurity in Southern California were more susceptible to …

Iatrogenic Atrial Septal Defect After Mitraclip Transcatheter Edge-To-Edge Repair: To Close Or Not To Close??, Mariem Abdelsalam, Raghad Younus, Lamis F Abdalla, Abdelkader Almanfi
The Texas Heart Institute Journal
The evolution of percutaneous procedures that use transseptal puncture to treat left-sided structural heart disease has led to the emergence of iatrogenic atrial septal defects as a potential complication. These defects can result in hemodynamic decompensation and worsening clinical outcomes. Some iatrogenic atrial septal defects require immediate closure, others do not. This case report presents 2 patients who underwent transcatheter edge-to-edge mitral valve repair with transseptal puncture and required iatrogenic atrial septal defect closure (1 immediate and 1 delayed). The goal of this report is to highlight iatrogenic atrial septal defect assessment and the possible need for closure after transseptal …
