Cultural Humility As A Mechanism For Building Working Alliance With International Counseling Supervisees, Alexandra Ioakeimidou
Theses, Dissertations and Culminating Projects
The counseling field constitutes a choice of study for many international students pursuing graduate studies in the United States. A critical training aspect of the counseling field is clinical supervision. It is documented in the literature that international counseling supervisees encounter many challenges in the context of supervision. The field of mental health and, in particular, the counseling field often emphasize the concept of cultural competence as a critical component in providing effective cross-cultural supervision. However, scholars have pointed out some negative aspects of cultural competence. The present study stipulated that the emphasis of supervisors on cultural competence could be …

COVID-19 Papers, Posters, and Presentations
Cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) destroy virally infected cells and are critical for the elimination of viral infections such as those caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Delayed and dysfunctional adaptive immune responses to SARS-CoV-2 are associated with poor outcomes. Treatment with allogeneic SARS-CoV-2-specific CTLs may enhance cellular immunity in high-risk patients providing a safe, direct mechanism of treatment. Thirty high-risk ambulatory patients with COVID-19 were enrolled in a phase 1 trial assessing the safety of third party, SARS-CoV-2-specific CTLs. Twelve interventional patients, 6 of whom were immunocompromised, matched the HLA-A∗02:01 restriction of the CTLs and received …

The willingness-to-accept monetary incentives to promote the use of transit and micromobility options was estimated for Puerto Rico. The analysis of a community survey showed that the decision to use an e-scooter as an alternative to an automobile for a commute trip depends on weather conditions, safety risks, and service cost, whereas for transit the decision highly depends on transit travel time, parking conditions, and service fare. The minimum incentives accepted went from $17.10 for the Tren Urbano heavy rail service to $18.90 for e-scooters as alternative modes to automobiles. The results show that the incentive value decreases as the …

Current Protocols: Alopecia Areata Mouse Models For Drug Efficacy And Mechanism Studies., John P Sundberg, Eddy H C Wang, Kevin J Mcelwee
Faculty Research 2024
Alopecia areata is the second most common form of hair loss in humans after androgenetic alopecia. Although a variety of animal models for alopecia areata have been described, currently the C3H/HeJ mouse model is the most commonly used and accepted. Spontaneous hair loss occurs in 15%-25% of older mice in which the lesions wax and wane, similar to the human disease, with alopecia being more common and severe in female mice. Full-thickness skin grafts from mice with spontaneous alopecia areata to young, normal-haired, histocompatible mice provide a highly reproducible model with progressive lesions that makes it useful for drug efficacy …
Development Of A Novel Drug Delivery Platform To Treat Hiv-Associated Neurocognitive Disorder, Lina Zhou
Development Of A Novel Drug Delivery Platform To Treat Hiv-Associated Neurocognitive Disorder, Lina Zhou
Alternative Theses and Dissertations (AETDs)
Despite the significant reduction in HIV prevalence and improvement in life expectancy achieved through the availability of widespread antiretroviral therapy (ART), there remains no definitive cure for HIV. Further, HIV infects the brain as early as eight days after initial peripheral infection leading to neuroHIV and subsequently neuronal damage and cognitive impairment. HIV can enter the brain through several mechanisms, including the migration of infected immune cells (Trojan Horse Mechanism), direct infection of endothelial cells, and cytokine-mediated disruption of the blood-brain barrier (BBB). Consequently, HIV-associated neurocognitive disorder (HAND) remains a significant challenge in the ART era, with an estimated prevalence …
Speech-Language Pathologists’ Perceptions When Supporting Students With Dyslexia, Heather Campbell-Meyer Tellier
Speech-Language Pathologists’ Perceptions When Supporting Students With Dyslexia, Heather Campbell-Meyer Tellier

Theoretical Justifications For Trade Secrets Protection Of Routine Business Information, Timothy Murphy
Theoretical Justifications For Trade Secrets Protection Of Routine Business Information, Timothy Murphy
Articles
For over a century trade secret law has protected internal business information from misappropriation by departing employees. Over this time, courts developed various limiting doctrines to minimize the impact of this broad protection on employee mobility in particular cases. However, the workplace has changed significantly over this time and these changes raise substantial questions as to whether there is any valid theoretical justification for continuing to protect routine business information under trade secret law. In an environment where the vast majority of trade secrets claims are against former employees, the lack of sound justification for protecting routine business information, the …
