St-Segment Resolution As A Predictor Of Short-Term Clinical Outcomes In Patients With Acute Anterior St-Elevation Myocardial Infarction After Primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention, Mohamed Ali Nada, Eid Mohamed Daoud, Ahmed Mohamed Reda

Mansoura Medical Journal

Background: Acute anterior ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) carries a high risk of adverse outcomes despite advances in reperfusion therapy. ST-segment resolution (STR) on electrocardiography has been proposed as a simple marker of myocardial reperfusion and predictor of clinical, but its prognostic role in routine practice remains debated. Aim of the Work: To assess the efficacy of ST-segment resolution as a predictor of short-term clinical outcomes in patients with acute anterior STEMI undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Patients and Methods: A prospective observational study was conducted at Mansoura University Cardiology Department between January and June 2024. 98 patients with anterior …

Mansoura Medical Journal

Background Vitiligo is a multifactorial disease in which autoimmunity plays a central role. Interleukin (IL)-38, an innate immune cytokine secreted by keratinocytes and other cells, is believed to have a role in vitiligo progression. Aim To assess the serum levels of IL-38 in cases with non-segmental vitiligo and to examine its correlation to disease severity and disease activity. Methods This case control study included 60 patients with vitiligo and 20 healthy subjects as a control group. According to the disease severity, the cases were allocated into three groups: mild, moderate and severe. Each group included 20 patients. The affected body …

Background: Supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) is a common clinical arrhythmia, with atrioventricular nodal reentrant tachycardia (AVNRT) and atrioventricular reentrant tachycardia (AVRT) being the most frequent subtypes. Distinguishing between these arrhythmias is crucial for determining the appropriate treatment strategy. Aim: To evaluate the clinical utility of echocardiographic measurement of coronary sinus (CS) diameter in distinguishing AVNRT from AVRT. Methods: This prospective descriptive study included 54 patients with narrow complex tachycardia who underwent echocardiography then electrophysiology study (EPS). CS diameter was measured at the ostium and 1 cm distal using 2D echocardiography then CS ostium area by 4D echocardiography was measured. Results: Patients …

The Impact Of Effective Diabetes Management On Reducing Burden In Elderly Patients: A Case-Control Study, Eslam Abdelhamid Mohamed, Mohamed A. Helaly, Ahmed Albehairy

Mansoura Medical Journal

Background and aim: Elderly individuals with diabetes mellitus (DM) are more prone to experiencing common geriatric syndromes, which include impaired cognition, dementia, frailty, falls, fractures, urinary incontinence, and disability. These can significantly impair their quality of life (QoL) and could conflict with anti-diabetic medication. Therefore, we aim to evaluate the impact of controlling diabetes on the overall burden of diabetes in the elderly. Materials and Methods: 100 elderly patients over sixty-five with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) were selected from Mansoura Specialized Medical Hospital (MSMH) between April 2022 and February 2023. The patients were divided into two groups: fifty diabetic …

Relationship Between Down Syndrome And Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder And The Role Of Fkbp5 Gene: A Review Of Current Evidence, Israa A. Elsawi, Dina Salama Abd-Elmagid, Doaa Shahin, Mohamed Rizk Khodair, Sohier Yahia Jan 2025

Relationship Between Down Syndrome And Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder And The Role Of Fkbp5 Gene: A Review Of Current Evidence, Israa A. Elsawi, Dina Salama Abd-Elmagid, Doaa Shahin, Mohamed Rizk Khodair, Sohier Yahia

Mansoura Medical Journal

The most prevalent chromosomal disorder is Down syndrome (DS). Neurodevelopmental disorders are highly associated with Down syndrome, such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Down syndrome is also distinguished by intellectual disability and developmental delays, with many affected individuals presenting manifestations of ADHD like inattention or hyperactivity. Differentiating ADHD from overlapping DS-related cognitive deficits remains a diagnostic dilemma. The FKBP5 gene, particularly the rs7748266 polymorphism, has been implicated in modulating stress response pathways linked to ADHD susceptibility. This review summarizes the relationship between DS and ADHD and explores the emerging role of FKBP5 rs7748266 in this context. This may later …

Trauma and Acute Care Articles

BACKGROUND: Treatment of blunt traumatic spinal cord injuries (SCIs) often includes maintaining elevated mean arterial blood pressures (MAP) to enhance perfusion to the spinal cord. Optimal hyperperfusion protocols and treatment algorithms have yet to be delineated due to a paucity of large volume prospective studies. This study aims to identify predictors of neurological improvement in American Spinal Injury Association (ASIA) impairment score following blunt SCI.

Conversion Of Orange Waste To Chemically Modified Activated Carbon Adsorbent Materials For Aqueous Phase Phosphate Removal, Sierra Mugan Jan 2025

Conversion Of Orange Waste To Chemically Modified Activated Carbon Adsorbent Materials For Aqueous Phase Phosphate Removal, Sierra Mugan

Electronic Theses and Dissertations 2020 - Present

Phosphorus pollution in surface waters drives harmful algal blooms, creating ecological, public health, and economic risks. This study examined citrus processing waste as a sustainable, low-cost precursor for producing chemically modified adsorbents for phosphorus removal. Orange waste was pyrolyzed, resulting in a carbon-rich material with low ash content, as confirmed by thermogravimetric analysis. The material was modified using lanthanum chloride, iron (III) chloride, and calcium chloride at varying mass ratios and screened under standard conditions (1 mg P/L, 1 g/L dosage, 24-hour contact time). Lanthanum- and iron-modified samples demonstrated the best removal efficiencies and underwent further evaluation. The lanthanum-modified sample …

Is Infant Fear Related To An Increase In Maternal Stress?, Janairis F. Munoz-Perez

Electronic Theses and Dissertations 2020 - Present

The impact of infant fear responses on mother stress throughout the first year of life was investigated in this study. Between six and fourteen months, thirty mother-infant pairs were examined at three different time intervals. Maternal responses from the Infant Behavior Questionnaire-Revised (IBQ-R) and behavioral observations made during standardized lab tasks were used to evaluate infant fear. The Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) was used to measure maternal stress at all time points, and behavioral stress was coded during the first session. The findings showed no overall significant correlation between the mother's subjective stress and the behavioral fear of her infant. …

Veterans In Times Of Crisis: The Impact Of Veteran Status On Unemployment, Lubor Olsovsky

Electronic Theses and Dissertations 2020 - Present

The purpose of this research is to investigate the impact of veteran status on unemployment in times of crisis. Driven by the social identity theory, we argue that people’s identity deriving from his or her military background makes them more valuable assets in the work environment, specifically in times of crisis, because of their human capital. We utilize the coronavirus pandemic as the exogenous shock in the labor marketplace, capturing the crisis environment. Due to the veterans’ human capital driven by their leadership and entrepreneurial characteristics from their military experience, we argue that individuals with veteran backgrounds have stronger labor …
