The Effects Of Brand Activism On Brand Performance, Lin Zhao Jan 2025

The Effects Of Brand Activism On Brand Performance, Lin Zhao

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

Brand activism—the explicit demonstration of a brand’s sociopolitical beliefs—has become increasingly prevalent and consequential. Concurrently, consumers now hold higher expectations for firms to engage in sociopolitical conversations, driven by the rise of belief-drive purchase in consumers’ decision-making and the growing ideological polarization worldwide. The interaction of brand activism and consumer behavior presents unique potential for brands to gain competitive advantages while contributing to social welfare. This dissertation comprises three essays that examine the effects of brand activism through multiple understudied yet compelling perspectives.

Essay One investigates how brand activism influences consumer-brand relationships through both transactional and relational lenses. This research …

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

Abstract

Implementing Noninvasive Capnography Monitoring to Enhance Early Recognition of Postoperative Respiratory Decline in High-Risk Patients: A Quality Improvement Initiative

Trevor Messenger

Background: Those suffering from chronic respiratory disease, obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), obesity, and other serious comorbidities are at an increased risk of respiratory decline after receiving general anesthesia. Respiratory decline leads to adverse outcomes, including increased hospital length of stay, intensive care unit (ICU) admissions, morbidity, and mortality.

Purpose: To improve the safety of postoperative patients at risk for OSA, and to reduce adverse events and airway interventions by enhancing the monitoring capabilities of bedside clinicians with waveform …

All-Terrain Vehicle Injuries Among Youth: A Multidimensional Analysis Of Injury Patterns In West Virginia And Safety Laws Across High-Fatality States, Sabrina Chyann Beal Jan 2025

All-Terrain Vehicle Injuries Among Youth: A Multidimensional Analysis Of Injury Patterns In West Virginia And Safety Laws Across High-Fatality States, Sabrina Chyann Beal

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

All-terrain vehicles (ATVs) pose significant injury risks, particularly among youth. These powerful machines are widely used across recreational and rural settings. West Virginia consistently ranks among the top five states for ATV-related deaths and injuries. Safety equipment and requirements are often not followed nor enforced, causing children and adolescents to be the most vulnerable group because they tend to not wear safety equipment such as helmets, ride on roadways, carry passengers, and operate oversized ATVS. This study examined ATV injury patterns from the WVU Medicine Trauma Registry and ATV laws across the five states with the highest reported fatalities. This …

Code Blue Narrator Documentation: An Evidence Based Quality Improvement Initiative, Stefanie A. Benvenuto

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

Background: The code documenter plays a crucial role in ensuring accurate, real-time documentation during Code Blue events, which is critical for patient care and compliance with established guidelines and protocols. However, nurses have reported discomfort with the Code Narrator tool in EPIC, which has hindered effective documentation during these high-pressure situations.

Purpose: The lack of comfort in using the Code Narrator tool has led to inconsistent and inaccurate documentation during Code Blue events, potentially impacting the effectiveness of the response and patient outcomes, such as the achievement of return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC).

Intervention: An educational competency …

Increasing Humanities And Stem Pipelines: Associations Between Student Characteristics And Academic Outcomes, David Wutchiett, A. W. Logue, Zun Tang, Vita Rabinowitz

Publications and Research

Humanities and STEM disciplines may face shortages of college graduates, particularly from underrepresented demographic groups. Using multilevel generalized linear models, we evaluated associations between student characteristics and 6-10-year academic outcomes in humanities and STEM pipelines from associate’s major declaration through post-enrollment wages among 92,169 first-time community college students. Nonarts humanities majors were more likely to graduate and begin graduate study. STEM majors earned higher wages after terminating their studies. To increase the output and diversity of the humanities and STEM pipelines, students’early selection of humanities-related majors should be increased, and STEM students’persistence and degree completion should be prioritized.

Opportunities For Inter-Cultural Awareness In The Education Of Dental Hygienists, Elizabeth J. Sandell, Lynnette Engeswick Jan 2025

Opportunities For Inter-Cultural Awareness In The Education Of Dental Hygienists, Elizabeth J. Sandell, Lynnette Engeswick

Elementary and Literacy Education Department Publications

Professional standards require that dental hygienists deliver culturally appropriate services and demonstrate respect for patients whose cultural beliefs and values may conflict with normative clinical recommendations. The present study provided a snapshot of undergraduate students in one dental hygiene education program about the students' Intercultural competence (ICC): "the capability to understand and adapt behavior to cultural differences and commonality accurately." Rather than a longitudinal study of a student cohort, investigators sought to understand if program outcomes were congruent with the stated visions and missions of the university, co llege, and department. The participants completed an Informed Consent before taking the …

Herbal and marine products in the form of extracts, infusions, and decoctions have been used for centuries in folk and traditional medicine. Preparations typically contain multiple biologically active compounds. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimated that about 65% of consumers worldwide use natural remedies containing bioactive molecules to treat various diseases [1]. Most single-molecule drugs of natural origin were developed in the middle of the 20th century through the active screening of natural products for bioactive molecules [2]. Examples include artemisinin, cyclosporine, taxol, doxorubicin, and many others. However, at the beginning of the 21st century, we saw a decline in …

Justice, Common Good, And Connectivity: A Thomistic Evaluation Of The Role Of Social Media In Shaping Global Integration, J S. Booth Jan 2025

Justice, Common Good, And Connectivity: A Thomistic Evaluation Of The Role Of Social Media In Shaping Global Integration, J S. Booth

Master's Theses

The growing influence of social media presents important implications for global integration and governance where platforms can rapidly be leveraged to promote cohesion, a sense of community or, sadly, as a powerful tool for societal fragmentation. The challenges and potential benefits of social media usage are examined in the context of a State’s integration responsibilities from a Thomistic ethical and moral perspective which emphasizes the need for justice and promotion of the common good. An assessment will be included on how social media platforms have been utilized to inform and mis-inform citizens under recent governmental integration campaigns and disintegration efforts …

Knowing What To Eat And When To Eat: Reading The Food Offering Text (1 Corinthians 8:1–11:1) From A Myanmar Christian Perspective, Hram Hu Lian Jan 2025

Knowing What To Eat And When To Eat: Reading The Food Offering Text (1 Corinthians 8:1–11:1) From A Myanmar Christian Perspective, Hram Hu Lian

The Asbury Journal

Food offerings play a vital role in the socio-religious life of the people of Myanmar. This is mainly because food is served as a part of worship in religious settings (Nat worship, Ahlu pwe, and religious festivals), as well as a part of regular interactions in a social setting (workrelated dinner parties, dinner parties at a Buddhist neighbor’s house, and non-religious social gatherings). In this context, knowing what to eat, and when to eat, becomes crucially important for Myanmar Christians as often times a person encounters various questions in regard to food offerings such as; Should a Christian participate in …

The Economics Of Healthcare Fraud, Jetson Leder-Luis, Anup Malani Jan 2025

The Economics Of Healthcare Fraud, Jetson Leder-Luis, Anup Malani

Public Law and Legal Theory Working Papers

Healthcare fraud imposes a sizable cost on U.S. public healthcare budgets and distorts health care provision. We examine the economics of health care fraud and enforcement using theory and data and connect to a growing literature on the topic. We first offer a new economic definition of health care fraud that captures and connects the wide range of activities prosecuted as fraud. We define fraud as any divergence between the care an insurer says a patient qualifies for, the care a provider provides, and the care a provider bills for. Our definition clarifies the economic consequences of different categories of …

Islands Of Algorithmic Integrity: Imagining A Democratic Digital Public Sphere, Aziz Z. Huq Jan 2025

Islands Of Algorithmic Integrity: Imagining A Democratic Digital Public Sphere, Aziz Z. Huq

Public Law and Legal Theory Working Papers

This essay offers a new analytic lens for evaluating the design of digital platforms from the perspective of democratic values. It develops a model of desirable platform design, and them ask present legal interventions move is toward that aspiration. The aspirational model is not draws on an idea found in the scholarly literatures in political science and sociology about economic development . This is the notion that development policy should aim to seed “islands of integrity,” into patrimonial or nepotistic state structures as a way of building foundations for a more robust and hence public-regarding state apparatus. This literature explores …

Structural Logics Of Presidential Immunity, Aziz Z. Huq Jan 2025

Structural Logics Of Presidential Immunity, Aziz Z. Huq

Public Law and Legal Theory Working Papers

In Trump v. United States, the Supreme Court wrought two new presidential immunities from criminal prosecution. Supplemented by a pair of penumbral evidentiary rules, these inhibit criminal indictment or conviction of the president, and indeed many subordinate officials, across many imaginable fact-patterns. The Court justified this result on consequentialist, not originalist or precedential, grounds. But its analysis of immunity’s effects was radically incomplete. It focused narrowly on the person of the president, eschewing any attempt to situate or relate that individual’s incentives and behavior to the wider institutional contexts of the executive branch at large or the partisan-political environment of …
