The Incidence And Types Of Medication Errors Occurring Among A Selected Group Of Elderly Patients, Harriet Dinsmore

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

The purpose of this study was to find the incidence of medication errors among a group of patients, sixty years of age and over, who were being treated in the outpatient department of a selected urban hospital; and to investigate the effect of certain selected factors on the errors found. It was also planned to compare findings from this study with one done by Schwartz et. al. in New York. The descriptive survey approach employing an interview guide was used.

Errors were classified as those of omission, self-medication, incorrect dosage, and errors in timing or sequence. Fifty-two per cent of …

Effect Of 9 Α-Fluorohydrocortisone Acetate On Gastric And Salivary Electrolytes Of Normal Fasting Subjects, Ardis Stern Beckner Sep 1962

Effect Of 9 Α-Fluorohydrocortisone Acetate On Gastric And Salivary Electrolytes Of Normal Fasting Subjects, Ardis Stern Beckner

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

The effect of 9α-FF on the Na:K ratio, chloride, and pH of saliva and gastric secretions, and on the total and free acid of gastric juice in normal human subjects was investigated. This study was designed to investigate whether conditions could be produced in the normal human subject similar to those present in patients with primary aldosteronism by using large doses of 9α-FF. August and others found a change in salivary electrolytes when cortisone, desoxycortisone, or ACTH were given to normal subjects. In these cases as in primary aldosteronism there was a decreased Na:K ratio and potassium excretion, with sodium …

An Investigation Of The Correlations Between Years Of Service In Pastoral Work And The Scores Of The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory, C. L. Wessman Jun 1962

An Investigation Of The Correlations Between Years Of Service In Pastoral Work And The Scores Of The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory, C. L. Wessman

Student Work

In the August Twentieth issue of Life Magazine an article appeared entitled, “Why Ministers Are Breaking Down.”1 Three months later, the Christian Century answered this article in Life with “Are Ministers Cracking Up?”2 The conclusions of these two articles were in disagreement. However, they were alike in that they were based upon personal observations of a few cases and not upon careful study. Since then other periodicals have carried like articles written in like style.3 A casual examination of the books on a minister’s personal problems in the library of any theological seminary will manifest the same …

A Study Of Aging In An Old Order Amish Mennonite Community, Louise Chahbazi Jan 1962

A Study Of Aging In An Old Order Amish Mennonite Community, Louise Chahbazi

Masters Theses

Introduction

The Old Order Amish Mennonites, undoubtedly the plainest of the "plain people," have a high regard for the beliefs and customs of their forebears. Their forefathers had no telephones, automobiles, electric lights, radios, or church buildings, so the Amish of today work the land with horses, travel in buggies, burn gas lights, gather in homes for worship services, and wear styles of dress which were common in seventeenth and eighteenth century Europe.

Estimates made on the basis of recorded church membership in the Mennonite Yearbook place the Amish population of the United States at approximately 57,000. Their high birth …

Adjustment Of The Elderly In Retirement Homes In Eastern South Dakota, D. G. Klug, H. M. Sauer Dec 1961

Adjustment Of The Elderly In Retirement Homes In Eastern South Dakota, D. G. Klug, H. M. Sauer

Research Bulletins of the South Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station (1887-2011)

In South Dakota, particularly, growing numbers of older citizens give cause for increasing concern with their problems. While the total population of South Dakota declined by 5.8% between 1930 and 1950, during the same period the number of persons 65 years old and older increased by 49.8%.3 By 1958, 10.1% of the state's total population was 65 years old and older, compared with the national figure of 8.8%.
A consideration of the preceding discussion makes understandable the increasing interest in life in the later years. This increased interest has stimulated research, concerned not only with problems like medical care, housing, …
