Beyond "Place Matters": Making Spatial Analysis Accessible With Dashboard-Driven Geography, Stephen Borders Feb 2026

Beyond "Place Matters": Making Spatial Analysis Accessible With Dashboard-Driven Geography, Stephen Borders

Public Health

This article presents an instructional module that uses Tableau to teach spatial thinking and policy geography through an analysis of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) participation. Tableau’s ability to integrate custom spatial files with demographic and health data makes it an accessible platform for introducing geographic inquiry without requiring specialized GIS expertise. The lesson guides instructors through building maps, bullet charts, and scatterplots that highlight gaps between eligibility and enrolment, while connecting food insecurity to health outcomes. By lowering technical barriers, Tableau provides a pedagogical bridge that helps educators foster spatial literacy in diverse classroom contexts.

A Study Of The Intellectual Property Rights Of Farmers With Special Reference To The Protection Of Plant Variety And The Farmers' Rights Act, 2001, Gomathi R Ms Feb 2026

A Study Of The Intellectual Property Rights Of Farmers With Special Reference To The Protection Of Plant Variety And The Farmers' Rights Act, 2001, Gomathi R Ms

Theses and Dissertations

Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) confer exclusive rights on individuals over the creations of their minds. Intellectual property is protected through patents, trademarks, copyrights, industrial designs, geographical indications, and other legal rights, enabling inventors to obtain economic benefits and legal recognition from their innovations. These rights provide exclusive usage for a prescribed period and have evolved significantly over the years, sharing similarities with ownership rights over tangible property. As intangible rights, IPR primarily consist of the property element and the object to which that property relates. Among the various forms of IPR, Plant Variety Protection (PVP) rights recognize the creativity and …

Un Extraño En Una Tierra Extraña: A Latino Debater’S Recollections Of The United Kingdom Debate Tour, Richard D. Pineda Feb 2026

Un Extraño En Una Tierra Extraña: A Latino Debater’S Recollections Of The United Kingdom Debate Tour, Richard D. Pineda

Studies in Debate and Oratory

Through the lens of a first-time participant of the Committee on International Discussion and Debate Tour of the United Kingdom and Portugal in 1997, this autoethnography examines the values of the debate tour experience from my unique standpoint. Having been in competitive speech and debate for eight years at that point – from high school through college – the debate tour challenged many of my assumptions about the activity and my perspective on speech and debate as an experiential learning platform. Specifically, I examine the experience of being on the tour through the identity lens of a Latino debater and …

Consumer Decision-Making Constructs: Differences Among Generational Cohorts, Heather M. Meyer, Chloe Murphy Feb 2026

Consumer Decision-Making Constructs: Differences Among Generational Cohorts, Heather M. Meyer, Chloe Murphy

Mountain Plains Journal of Business and Technology

Generational cohort theory has been popular in the social sciences for decades, yet it remains a niche topic in the consumer behavior literature. Prior studies have found relationships between generational cohorts and various product categories. In this study, the relationship between generational cohorts and consumer decision-making constructs is assessed. A nationally representative survey was conducted. MANOVA and ANOVA analyses revealed relationships between generational cohorts and promotion focus, information acquisition, quality consciousness, compulsive buying, and consumer debt characteristics. A separate linear regression analysis showed significance between age and some of these decision-making characteristics. Limitations, implications, recommendations, and directions for future research …

Music As Memory And Narrative In American Graffiti And Dazed And Confused, Jacob Tone Feb 2026

Music As Memory And Narrative In American Graffiti And Dazed And Confused, Jacob Tone

CAFE Symposium 2026

This poster explores how George Lucas’s American Graffiti (1973) and Richard Linklater’s Dazed and Confused (1993) utilize popular music as a narrative tool to define the evolution of American youth culture. By examining the shift from the unified, diegetic radio culture of 1962 to the fragmented, ironic rock pastiche of 1976, the research highlights how Lucas creates a "communal identity" rooted in sincerity while Linklater captures the "disillusionment" of a generation adrift. Ultimately, the study demonstrates that these soundtracks are not mere background elements but serve as vital cultural archives that mediate between history and cinematic memory, shaping the way …

The Taxing Ambiguity: Defining "Return" In Bankruptcy Dischargeability Cases, Elizabeth Tsai Feb 2026

The Taxing Ambiguity: Defining "Return" In Bankruptcy Dischargeability Cases, Elizabeth Tsai

Cleveland State Law Review

This Note examines the circuit split over the dischargeability of tax debts tied to late-filed returns, which has led to inconsistent bankruptcy outcomes and inequitable treatment of debtors across jurisdictions. Some courts, adopting the strict “one-day-late” rule, hold that any tax return filed even a single day past its deadline is not a “return” for bankruptcy discharge purposes, permanently barring relief. Others apply a more flexible standard grounded in the Beard test, considering a debtor’s good-faith compliance efforts. This inconsistency contradicts the fresh start principle of bankruptcy law, disproportionately harms low-income debtors, and fails to serve the government’s tax collection …

Faculty Perceptions About The Challenges Of Declining Enrollment In A Caribbean University, Courtney Palmer Feb 2026

Faculty Perceptions About The Challenges Of Declining Enrollment In A Caribbean University, Courtney Palmer

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The precipitous decline in enrollment is a concerning aspect of higher education. The problem addressed in this study was that faculty members at a local university on a Caribbean island have faced an approximate 44% reduction in student enrollment over the past six years. Guided by the new learning compact framework (NLC), the purpose of this basic qualitative study was to explore industrial technology lecturers' perceptions from one Caribbean Island university about the challenges they experience from declining enrollment and examine their suggestions to improve enrollment. Twelve lecturers with tertiary-level teaching experience at the institution were interviewed using semi-structured interviews. …

Maternal Weight Trajectories From Pre-Pregnancy Through Postpartum And Childhood Obesity Risk At 24 Months Of Age: A Group-Based Trajectory Modeling Analysis, Taniqua T. Ingol, Sarah E. Anderson, Joseph Rausch, Rebecca Andridge, Bharathi J. Zvara, Sarah A. Keim Feb 2026

Maternal Weight Trajectories From Pre-Pregnancy Through Postpartum And Childhood Obesity Risk At 24 Months Of Age: A Group-Based Trajectory Modeling Analysis, Taniqua T. Ingol, Sarah E. Anderson, Joseph Rausch, Rebecca Andridge, Bharathi J. Zvara, Sarah A. Keim

Journal of Child Science

Background: High pre-pregnancy BMI, excessive gestational weight gain, and postpartum weight retention are modifiable risk factors for childhood obesity, but are often studied singly, limiting understanding of their combined impact. Our objective was to characterize maternal weight trajectories across pregnancy until 18 months’ postpartum and examine associations with child overweight or obesity. Methods: We analyzed data from 299 mother-child dyads enrolled in the Play & Grow study (Ohio, USA). Mother’s weight and height were measured at study enrollment at 18 months’ postpartum. Pre-pregnancy weight and height and weight at delivery were obtained through linkage to birth certificate data. Group-based trajectory …

Aquatic Interrelations In Malika Mokeddem’S Novel N’Zid (2001), Laura C. Klein Feb 2026

Aquatic Interrelations In Malika Mokeddem’S Novel N’Zid (2001), Laura C. Klein

Green Humanities: A Journal of Ecological Thought in Literature, Philosophy & the Arts

This article offers an ecological analysis of Malika Mokeddem's novel N'Zid (2001), moving beyond postcolonial and anthropocentric interpretations. It centers on the protagonist Nora's individuation, arguing this process is intrinsically linked to her evolving relationship with the aquatic environment from which she emerges. The article aims to situate N'Zid within an ecological perspective, particularly relevant in the Anthropocene, an era compelling a reassessment of humanity's place. Echoing Bruno Latour, addressing inter-relationality is essential as the stable physical framework of the Moderns becomes unstable. This view necessitates rethinking environmental issues and encourages a scientific interpretation of the novel, drawing on neurosciences, …

Haley, Jiajia Lin, Allison Myers-Pigg, Justin Reale, Katie Wampler, Kevin D. Bladon, Kurt Carpenter, Heejun Chang, Multiple Additional Authors

Geography Faculty Publications and Presentations

An increase in the occurrence of large, high severity wildfires in the western Pacific Northwest (PNW), USA, has created an urgent need for science to better inform forest management and policy decisions to maintain source water quality in the region. The western PNW faces similar challenges to other regions with shifting wildfire regimes and large population centers reliant on surface water from forested catchments. However, the uniquely wet and highly seasonal climate of the western PNW suggests that findings from other, more frequently burned regions may not be directly applicable. To identify science, monitoring, and management gaps and opportunities in …
