Design Of An Automated Malware Analysis System, Bradley J. Nabholz
Design Of An Automated Malware Analysis System, Bradley J. Nabholz
Purdue Polytechnic Directed Projects
Malware, malicious software written for the purpose of causing computer-related damage, has existed for many years. Only recently have the monetary advantages of perpetrating malware begun to gain interest from increasingly malicious groups. Industry and law enforcement have a difficult and time-consuming job to do with respect to investigating computer-based crimes. The Malware Research Team (MRT) at Purdue University has helped the Indianapolis branch of the FBI locate malware in dozens of computer crime cases, and analyzed that malware using documented and approved standard operating procedures. An ever-increasing number of cases and time constraints have forced the MRT to look …

Prioritizing Justice: Combating Corporate Crime From Task Force To Top Priority, Mary Kreiner Ramirez
Prioritizing Justice: Combating Corporate Crime From Task Force To Top Priority, Mary Kreiner Ramirez
Marquette Law Review
Inadequate law enforcement against corporate criminals appears to have created perverse incentives leading to an economic crisis — this time in the context of the subprime mortgage crisis. Prioritizing Justice proposes institutional reform at the Department of Justice (DOJ) in pursuing corporate crime. Presently, corporate crime is pursued nationally primarily through the DOJ Financial Fraud Enforcement Task Force and other task forces, the DOJ Criminal Division Fraud Section, and the individual U.S. Attorneys' Offices. Rather than a collection of ad hoc task forces that seek to coordinate policy among a vast array of offices and agencies, a Corporate Crimes Division …
Reforming The United States' Economic Model After The Failure Of Unfettered Financial Capitalism, Richard B. Freeman
Reforming The United States' Economic Model After The Failure Of Unfettered Financial Capitalism, Richard B. Freeman
Chicago-Kent Law Review
This Article is based on the 2009 Kenneth M. Piper Lecture at the Chicago-Kent College of Law. The 2008–2009 financial meltdown and ensuing economic developments have shown three things about modern capitalism: First, that unfettered financial markets remain the Achilles heel of capitalism with the capability of destroying economic stability and bringing misery to all. Second, that high-powered incentives paid to "talent" in finance are a fundamental cause of the excessive risk-taking, chicanery, and financial fraud that contributes to instability. Without a new compensation system that rewards banking and finance for contributing to sustainable economic progress rather than for economic …

Continuous Controls Monitoring Can Help Defer Fraud, Sridhar Ramamoorti, Joseph Dupree
Accounting Faculty Publications
The biannual survey of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) found that US organizations lose an estimated 7 percent of annual revenues to fraud. Based on corresponding United States GDP figures from the World Bank, this percentage indicates a staggering estimate of losses — around $994 billion — among U.S. organizations, despite increased emphasis on anti-fraud controls and recent legislation to combat fraud. As the survey suggests, almost every large and small organization is potentially susceptible to fraud risk, both internally from employee theft and corruption and externally by vendors and other third parties engaged in fraud against the …

Thirteen Ways Of Looking At Buck V. Bell: Thoughts Occasioned By Paul Lombardo's "Three Generations, No Imbeciles", Michelle Oberman
Thirteen Ways Of Looking At Buck V. Bell: Thoughts Occasioned By Paul Lombardo's "Three Generations, No Imbeciles", Michelle Oberman
Faculty Publications
Paul Lombardo's recent book, Three Generations, No Imbeciles: Eugenics, the Supreme Court and Buck v. Bell, chronicles the history of state-sponsored sterilization over the course of the 20th century. As a historical endeavor, it is rich and rewarding, permitting the reader a broad understanding of the social, cultural and legal context for the case that inspired Oliver Wendell Holmes' famous quotation, "Three generations of imbeciles are enough." Lombardo's work masterfully ties the eugenics movement of the early 20th century to the broader policies informing the government's role in regulating reproduction .
Lombardo's book, which I originally picked up solely …
