Using The Inform Consumers Act To Combat China’S Online Counterfeiters, Daniel C.K. Chow May 2026

Using The Inform Consumers Act To Combat China’S Online Counterfeiters, Daniel C.K. Chow

Journal of Intellectual Property Law

Everyday millions of counterfeit goods are shipped from suppliers on Alibaba’s website based in China to retailers on Amazon, Walmart, and other e-commerce platforms and sold to U.S. consumers. The significance of this massive pipeline seems to have eluded brand owners and U.S. government authorities. Most brand owners have concentrated their efforts on suppressing counterfeits on U.S. e-commerce markets after the counterfeits have already appeared on their sites. These efforts have proven to be ineffective as once millions of counterfeits are commingled with genuine products on the internet their suppression becomes an impossible task. The key to successful interdiction of …

Prior Traumatic Brain Injury As A Predictor Of Cognitive Deficits After Moderate-To-Severe Injury, Disha A. Thakkar, Charles J. Golden

Archives of Assessment Psychology

Prior traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) are common among individuals who later sustain a moderate-to-severe TBI (msTBI), and cumulative injury models suggest repeated TBIs may worsen long-term cognitive outcomes. This study tested whether prior TBI history independently contributes to cognitive performance one year after an index msTBI beyond demographic and injury-severity factors. Data were drawn from the Traumatic Brain Injury Model Systems National Database (N = 6,880 enrolled since 2017). 2,773 participants completed the Brief Test of Adult Cognition by Telephone at one-year follow-up. Hierarchical regression models evaluated whether prior TBI history accounted for incremental variance in overall cognitive status and …

"In Keeping With The Constitution’S Original Design": History And Tradition In Federal Indian Law, Meghanlata Gupta

Public Land & Resources Law Review

This Article examines the Supreme Court’s use of history and tradition in federal Indian law. In recent years, the Court has increasingly relied on Founding-era practices and historical traditions to determine constitutional meaning in areas such as firearm regulation, substantive due process, and religious liberty. At the same time, while the Founding-era record contains substantial evidence that Native nations were understood and treated as independent, sovereign political communities, this evidence has not yet been fully incorporated into the Supreme Court’s Indian law jurisprudence. Examining decisions from Oliphant to Castro-Huerta, this Article describes the Court’s approaches to historical analysis in Indian …

Supporting Students With A Hearing Impairment, Kayleigh Kearsley, April Israelsen, Whitney Clawson

Curiosity

Imagine you have hearing aids and have been struggling for weeks to hear your band teacher because of the background noise in class. You approach your teacher and request that he wear an FM microphone device that transmits directly to your hearing aids, turning it on when he is talking and off again when the class is playing, allowing you to hear his voice better. The band teacher denies the request, stating that it would be too distracting for other students if he used the device during class. This is the real life experience of Abby Daum, a hard of …

Ai-Augmented Pedagogy In Higher Education: An Ethical And Equitable Framework For The Governance And Operational Integration Of Ai In Teaching And Learning, Asrat G. Amnie

Publications and Research

Abstract

Higher education faces a convergence of pressures that no single institutional response has yet resolved: widening demographic diversity, pandemic-exposed structural fragility, and the persistent inequity of whose learning gets supported and how. Artificial intelligence (AI) has entered this landscape not as an optional enhancement but as an infrastructural reality— embedded in adaptive platforms, feedback systems, and early-alert protocols at institutions worldwide. Yet adoption has consistently outpaced governance, and tools celebrated for democratizing access carry real risks of encoding and amplifying the inequities they promise to address. This article introduces the AI-Augmented Pedagogy (AAP) framework, developed through a Sequential Explanatory …

Introduction To Tamil Language For Speech-Language Pathologists In The U.S.A. ~A Phonetic, Linguistic, And Cultural Guide With Clinical Applications~, Roshni Sreeram Mohan Kasthuri

Curiosity

With the increasing linguistic diversity rapidly expanding in the United States of America’s (U.S.A.) educational and health care systems, speech-language pathologists (SLPs) are increasingly being asked to provide services to individuals who come from multilingual/multicultural backgrounds (American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, n.d.). Among these, there are the Tamil-speaking community, representing a classical Dravidian language that has more than 80 million native speakers worldwide (Proof, 2019) and sizeable diasporas in the U.S.A.

This interdisciplinary Tamil guide provides SLPs with the foundational knowledge and information about Tamil phonetics and morphosyntax, while also emphasizing the need for a culturally responsive tool for assessment. This guide …

Depth Of Processing Re-Examined: Semantic Superiority Persists Despite Increased Lexical Task Demands, Porter Roth, Devon Winder, Cohen Thatcher, Matthew Lynn

Curiosity

The present study investigates whether semantic or lexical judgement tasks yield deeper encoding and higher recall accuracy in working and short-term memory. Using the Levels of Processing theory framework, we compared a semantic categorization question, “Is this an animal?” with a more cognitively effortful lexical question, “Is this a word backwards?” to test whether increased cognitive effort improves recall over mental categorization. A self-selecting sample of 31 Utah State University students completed a within-subjects experiment with an encoding phase followed by a recall phase. Word stimuli were controlled for length, frequency, phonological simplicity, and concreteness. Results showed significantly higher recall …

Department of Exercise Science Faculty Papers

Background/Objectives: Concussions occur across all sports globally; however, inconsistent symptom recognition continues to challenge diagnosis, management, and recovery. Although concussion effects extend beyond neurological dysfunction, gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms remain insufficiently captured within current assessment frameworks and may influence athletes’ fuelling choices and food tolerance during recovery. This study aimed to describe the prevalence and patterns of GI symptoms reported among athletes with a history of concussion and to explore whether symptom prevalence and burden differed by sex and country. Methods: A total of 401 adult athletes (225 males; mean age 32.4 ± 11.3 years) with a history of concussion were …

The Impact Of Phonological And Visual Processing On Memory Retention, Emily Kuehnl, Julissa Harris, Tylee Leishman, Avril Herrada, Makenzie Fraser May 2026

The Impact Of Phonological And Visual Processing On Memory Retention, Emily Kuehnl, Julissa Harris, Tylee Leishman, Avril Herrada, Makenzie Fraser

Curiosity

Previous research within the Levels of Processing framework outlines that the depth of encoding of to-be-learned information is predictive of subsequent strength of memory retention. Similarly, the focus and direction of an individual's attention can impact these processes both negatively and positively. This study sought to examine whether deep encoding requires semantic analysis, or if phonological tasks that promote holistic analysis are adequate. For the purposes of this study, participants completed two encoding tasks: a letter-level visual judgement (vowel identification) and a word-level phonological judgement (syllable evaluation). Although both tasks are traditionally considered shallow, the word-level task engages higher levels …

Here-, There-, And Every Where-: Exploring The Role Of Pronominal Adverbs In Legal Language, David Chandler

Undergraduate Honors Theses

Legal language is distinctive and sometimes difficult to understand. One type of word that appears to be part of so-called ‘legalese’ is the pronominal adverb (PA). The purpose of this thesis is to examine the prevalence of PAs in legal registers compared to more general registers of contemporary American English to determine the extent to which these words are distinctly legal. The study will also explore why different types of PAs may be (in)frequent in specific legal registers to better understand their use. The frequency of PAs was extracted from corpora that are designed to represent six registers of English …
