The Columns From “The Tomb Of Charlemagne” Between Aachen And The Louvre: A Modern Spoliation Saga, Brigitte Buettner
The Columns From “The Tomb Of Charlemagne” Between Aachen And The Louvre: A Modern Spoliation Saga, Brigitte Buettner
Art: Faculty Publications
In September 1794, the French army, after conquering much of Belgium and the Netherlands, marched into Aachen. This early campaign of military conquest turned into the first laboratory for the systematic plunder of cultural assets enacted by various post-revolutionary and Napoleonic regimes from 1794 to 1815. Works of art “liberated” from the tyranny of aristocratic and religious ownership were earmarked for the newly opened Musée Central des Arts (now the Louvre) to showcase the enlightened cultural supremacy of Paris. From Aachen, the conquerors took more than the usual loot of movable assets: they “extracted” some forty columns from Charlemagne’s famed …

Let Sleeping Dogs Lie: A Comparative Analysis Of The Dormant Commerce Clause And Internal Trade Barrier Mitigation, Naman Patel
Let Sleeping Dogs Lie: A Comparative Analysis Of The Dormant Commerce Clause And Internal Trade Barrier Mitigation, Naman Patel
Washington Law Review
The Dormant Commerce Clause jurisprudence of the United States has been one of the most widely criticized doctrines of American constitutional law. However, most of these criticisms fail to consider the economic implications of the Dormant Commerce Clause, namely the benefits this doctrine has provided in facilitating internal free trade amongst the states. This Comment argues that the Dormant Commerce Clause has given American courts an effective tool to promote interstate free trade by removing state regulations that create non-tariff barriers to trade. To support this assertion, this Comment utilizes a comparative constitutional analysis to examine how the constitutional systems …

Unicorn Shareholder Suits, Verity Winship
Unicorn Shareholder Suits, Verity Winship
Indiana Law Journal
How U.S. companies raise money and grow has fundamentally shifted. Large private companies dominate the corporate landscape, with a ballooning list of private companies valued at more than a billion dollars—the unicorns. This Article examines the implications of this shift for shareholder litigation. Drawing on an original study of shareholder litigation against private companies valued at more than a billion dollars as of 2016, the Article analyzes barriers to unicorn shareholder suits and explains why such suits look quite different than shareholder litigation on the public side. It concludes by identifying remaining routes for litigants and evaluating the extent to …

The objective of this systematic review with a framework synthesis approach is to identify and map the dimensions and indicators of cancer palliative care development and the components of integration between cancer and palliative care in LMICs. Methods. Uni- and multi-disciplinary databases like Cochrane, MEDLINE (PubMed), EMBASE, CINAHL Complete, and PsycINFO will be systematically searched for eligible studies exploring …
Role Of Absolute Versus Relative Voice Rest In Post-Operative Management Of Benign Vocal Fold Lesions, Mihika Sinha, Suresh Pillai, Shama Shetty, Usha Devadas
Role Of Absolute Versus Relative Voice Rest In Post-Operative Management Of Benign Vocal Fold Lesions, Mihika Sinha, Suresh Pillai, Shama Shetty, Usha Devadas
Open Access archive
Objective Most otolaryngologists advocate absolute voice rest after laryngeal surgery, which proves difficult for patients, so we decided to evaluate the role of absolute voice rest versus relative voice rest in the post-operative management of benign lesions. Methods Forty patients were recruited and divided in two groups: absolute voice rest and relative voice rest. Pre- and post-operative voice analysis (fundamental frequency, jitter, shimmer, voice handicap index, voice-related quality-of-life scale scores and compliance) were noted at one week and one month. Results Voice analysis parameters including jitter (p = 0.035), shimmer (p = 0.020), voice handicap index (p < 0.001) and compliance (p < 0.001) were better in the relative voice-rest group. Frequency, number of voice breaks and voice-related quality of life showed no statistically significant results. Conclusion There was no significant benefit of absolute voice rest on post-operative outcomes as determined by acoustic variables. Compliance and quality-of-life scores were low in the strict voice-rest group. Therefore, we should reconsider post-surgical voice-rest protocol.

Indonesia: Arts, Religion, and Social Change
This thesis offers a contemporary investigation of the extent to which historical contexts contribute to Indonesian people’s reservations towards political conversations and social movements, such as protests and demonstrations. The historical contexts in question are focused on the Soeharto dictatorship from 1966-1999 and its long reign of censorship, citizen violence, and general human rights violations. The research employs a mixed-methods approach focused on cultural and participant observation, social media analysis, and interviews. Social media analyses offer insights into activism, particularly that of students and the youth, that are not generally available in scholarly sources. Interviews with Indonesian citizens and local …
