The Effect Of Utilizing Nearpod With Guided Reading Strategy On Efl Primary Pupils' Reading Comprehension Skills And Motivation, Faten Zahran Jan 2025

The Effect Of Utilizing Nearpod With Guided Reading Strategy On Efl Primary Pupils' Reading Comprehension Skills And Motivation, Faten Zahran

Journal of Educational Research and Practice

The current study examined the effect of using Nearpod with a guided reading strategy on primary pupils’ reading comprehension skills and motivation. I designed three tools to accomplish the research, including a reading skills checklist, a reading test, and a reading motivation scale. The results confirmed that the regular technique used in teaching is not as significant as using Nearpod with a guided reading strategy. The experimental group of pupils outperformed their counterparts in the control group in the reading comprehension test and reading motivation scale. Using Nearpod with guided reading improved reading comprehension skills and motivation.

The Glass Finds From The ‘Sleepy Spring’ At Safed (Ẓefat), Natalya Katsnelson Jan 2025

The Glass Finds From The ‘Sleepy Spring’ At Safed (Ẓefat), Natalya Katsnelson

'Atiqot

The excavation at Safed yielded a small assemblage of glass finds, including fragments of two beaker-shaped oil lamps, a small lid and two small cosmetic bottles of the Mamluk–Ottoman periods, as well as several beads, bracelets and glass vessels of the late Ottoman–British Mandate periods. This glass assemblage corresponds with the dating of the remains between the fifteenth and early twentieth centuries CE, comprising common locally produced artifacts of the Late Islamic period and items dating to the late Ottoman and British Mandate periods, some of which were imported.

A Mamluk-Period Mausoleum Near The ‘Sleepy Spring’ At Safed (Ẓefat), Hervé Barbé

'Atiqot

A trial excavation near the ‘Sleepy Spring’ fountain in Safed revealed the remains of a mausoleum, which was built during the late Mamluk period and remained in use until the early twentieth century. Three late Ottoman-period tombs found within the vaulted structure, and Ottoman-period cist tombs adjacent to the building, attest to the burial function of the site. No pre-Mamluk-period finds were uncovered at the site, indicating that the earliest occupation in this part of the ancient town was in the Mamluk period. Based on archaeological excavations and textual sources, urbanization of Safed was intensified during the Mamluk period, possibly …

The Faunal Remains From Ramla, Dana Shtainberg Finali, Ram Bouchnick

'Atiqot

The majority of the faunal remains from the excavation at Ramla were retrieved from Area A. The assemblage mostly comprises domestic livestock, including domestic fowl. It also includes a few remains of wild mammals, fish and songbirds. The very low numbers of pig bones at the site are characteristic of assemblages associated with cultures that imposed a taboo on eating pork, as Jewish and Muslim communities. The assemblage appears to represent refuse deposits, although their precise origin is unclear.

Early Islamic-Period Glass Finds From Ramla, Tamar Winter Jan 2025

Early Islamic-Period Glass Finds From Ramla, Tamar Winter

'Atiqot

The excavation at Ramla yielded a rich variety of glass finds, most of which were free-blown and decorated, and some production remains. Some of the finds are characteristic of the Umayyad period, while most date to the Abbasid–Fatimid periods, with some types continuing into the Mamluk period. The rich variety of the glass assemblage and sophisticated nature of the vessel types attest to the affluence of the population inhabiting this part of Ramla, and the familiarity of this population with contemporary trends of the glass industry.

Remains Of Buildings And Installations From The Late Abbasid–Fatimid And Mamluk Periods In Ramla, Ron Toueg, Hagit Torgë

'Atiqot

Salvage excavation carried out at Ramla revealed three strata in Area A (Strata III–I), comprising remains of buildings, installations, water cisterns, channels and cesspits ascribed to the late Abbasid–Fatimid periods (second half of the ninth to the end of the eleventh centuries CE). The latest occupation phase in Area A (Stratum I) was a short-term secondary use of Fatimid-period structures by inhabitants of the Mamluk period (thirteenth–sixteenth centuries CE). These remains were part of a previously exposed affluent neighborhood. The high economic status of the inhabitants of this area was further indicated by luxury finds, such as imported pottery vessels, …

Faculty, Staff and Student Publications

BACKGROUND: Type 2 diabetes affects nearly 34.2 million adults and is the seventh leading cause of death in the United States. Digital health communities have emerged as avenues to provide social support to individuals engaging in diabetes self-management (DSM). The analysis of digital peer interactions and social connections can improve our understanding of the factors underlying behavior change, which can inform the development of personalized DSM interventions.

OBJECTIVE: Our objective is to apply our methodology using a mixed methods approach to (1) characterize the role of context-specific social influence patterns in DSM and (2) derive interventional targets that enhance individual …

Autistic Female University Students And Their Experiences With Depression: An Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis, Rosemarie Joy Hopkins Keenan Jan 2025

Autistic Female University Students And Their Experiences With Depression: An Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis, Rosemarie Joy Hopkins Keenan

Theses and Dissertations

Autism spectrum disorder (autism) can have significant impacts on the lives of those who experience it. However, as autism can affect each person in unique ways, the exact impacts of the condition on a person's experiences are not well understood. This is especially the case for women and girls with autism, who are on diagnosed later in life and have historically been neglected in research studies when compared to autistic men and boys. Autistic people are underrepresented in university populations, and characteristics of a university education present new challenges for autistic students. Little research has been done to inform supports …

Achilles Tendon Morphology Adaptations In Chronic Post-Stroke Hemiparesis: A Comparative Analysis With Neurologically Intact Controls, Jing Nong Liang, Greg Bashford, Kornelia Kulig, Kai-Yu Ho

Physical Therapy Faculty Research

Introduction: In individuals with chronic post-stroke hemiparesis, slow walking speed is a significant concern related to inadequate propulsion of the paretic limb. However, an overlooked factor is this population's altered morphology of the Achilles tendon, which may compromise the propulsive forces by the paretic limb. This study aimed to explore changes in Achilles tendon morphology, including gross thickness and intra-tendinous collagen fiber bundle organization, following stroke-induced brain lesions.

Methods: Fifteen individuals with chronic post-stroke hemiparesis (at least 6 months post-stroke) and 19 neurologically intact controls participated. Ultrasound imaging was used to evaluate Achilles tendon thickness and collagen organization in the …

Evaluating The Effects Of High-Throughput Structural Neuroimaging Predictors On Whole-Brain Functional Connectome Outcomes Via Network-Based Matrix-On-Vector Regression, Tong Lu, Yuan Zhang, Vince Lyzinski, Chuan Bi, Peter Kochunov, Elliot Hong, Shuo Chen Jan 2025

Evaluating The Effects Of High-Throughput Structural Neuroimaging Predictors On Whole-Brain Functional Connectome Outcomes Via Network-Based Matrix-On-Vector Regression, Tong Lu, Yuan Zhang, Vince Lyzinski, Chuan Bi, Peter Kochunov, Elliot Hong, Shuo Chen

Faculty, Staff and Student Publications

The joint analysis of multimodal neuroimaging data is vital in brain research, revealing complex interactions between brain structures and functions. Our study is motivated by the analysis of a vast dataset of brain functional connectivity (FC) and multimodal structural imaging (SI) features from the UK Biobank. Specifically, we aim to investigate the effects of SI features, such as white matter microstructure integrity (WMMI) and cortical thickness, on the whole-brain functional connectome network. This analysis is inherently challenging due to the extensive structural-functional associations and the intricate network patterns present in multimodal high-dimensional neuroimaging data. To bridge methodological gaps, we developed …

Rpa And Rad27 Limit Templated And Inverted Insertions At Dna Breaks, Yang Yu, Xin Wang, Jordan Fox, Qian Li, Yang Yu, P J Hastings, Kaifu Chen, Grzegorz Ira Jan 2025

Rpa And Rad27 Limit Templated And Inverted Insertions At Dna Breaks, Yang Yu, Xin Wang, Jordan Fox, Qian Li, Yang Yu, P J Hastings, Kaifu Chen, Grzegorz Ira

Faculty, Staff and Students Publications

Formation of templated insertions at DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs) is very common in cancer cells. The mechanisms and enzymes regulating these events are largely unknown. Here, we investigated templated insertions in yeast at DSBs using amplicon sequencing across a repaired locus. We document very short (most ∼5-34 bp), templated inverted duplications at DSBs. They are generated through a foldback mechanism that utilizes microhomologies adjacent to the DSB. Enzymatic requirements suggest a hybrid mechanism wherein one end requires Polδ-mediated synthesis while the other end is captured by nonhomologous end joining (NHEJ) or by alternative end joining (Alt-EJ). This process is exacerbated …

A Relational Developmental Theory Of Human-Animal Interaction: A Meta-Synthesis And Grounded Theory, Erin Flynn, Miriam G. Valdovinos, Megan K. Mueller, Kevin N. Morris Jan 2025

A Relational Developmental Theory Of Human-Animal Interaction: A Meta-Synthesis And Grounded Theory, Erin Flynn, Miriam G. Valdovinos, Megan K. Mueller, Kevin N. Morris

Graduate School of Social Work: Faculty Scholarship

Limited research has explored youths’ relationships with animals as a possible ecological asset. We conducted a qualitative meta-synthesis of studies published before 2022 that examined how youth-animal interactions are described as shaping youth social-emotional health in education and therapeutic settings. We compared and combined the patterns of findings to determine which mechanisms within youth-animal coaction might be theorized to shape social, emotional, and behavioral development for youth in education and therapy contexts. We used a grounded theory approach to further analyze the primary data and compare it with extant relational developmental systems literature to suggest a new theoretical model for …

Materiality Of Traumatic Experience And The Limits Of Representation In Hassan Bani Ameri’S Gonjeshkha Behesht Ra Mifahmand (Sparrows Understand Heaven), Maryam Ghodrati Jan 2025

Materiality Of Traumatic Experience And The Limits Of Representation In Hassan Bani Ameri’S Gonjeshkha Behesht Ra Mifahmand (Sparrows Understand Heaven), Maryam Ghodrati

Emerson Authors, Researchers, & Creators

This paper examines the materialization of trauma as both a narrative and embodied phenomenon in Hassan Bani Ameri’s 2006 novel, Gonjeshkha Behesht ra Mifahmand, using contemporary narrative and trauma theory. The postmodernist narrative, told from the perspective of a photojournalist, reconstructs events surrounding the death of a celebrated Iran-Iraq War commander. I argue that traumatic truths resist full integration into conventional frameworks of understanding, evident in the novel’s non-linear, fragmented narrative and its shift from visual realism to confessional surrealism in an ending that challenges traditional storytelling and historical documentation. By vividly simulating the sensory processing of traumatic memories, the …
