Development And Evaluation Of Butyl Norbornene Based Cross-Linked Anion Exchange Membranes For Enhanced Nonaqueous Redox Flow Battery Efficiency, M. Motiur Mazumder, Hazel Gerber, Paul A. Kohl, Shelley D. Minteer

Chemistry Faculty Research & Creative Works

Nonaqueous redox flow batteries (NARFBs) have been plagued by the lack of appropriate separators to prevent crossover. In this article, the synthesis and characterization of poly(norbornene) (PNB) anion-exchange membranes (AEMs) were studied. PNB is a copolymer of butyl norbornene (BuNB) and bromobutyl norbornene (BrBuNB) with varying amounts of tetramethyl hexadiamine cross-linker. The performance of the AEMs was investigated in nonaqueous redox flow batteries under ideal conditions. Performance evaluation encompassed several key factors, including durability in a nonaqueous solvent, charge-carrying ions permeability, electric cell resistance, crossover of redox-active molecules, and mechanical properties. The BuNB-based AEMs outperformed the commercial Fumasep membrane in …

Analysis Of The Represented Interior Space: Hermeneutic Study Of The Peres Maldonado Ex-Voto, Blanca Ruiz Esparza Díaz De León, Héctor Omar Gonzaléz Romo Jan 2025

Analysis Of The Represented Interior Space: Hermeneutic Study Of The Peres Maldonado Ex-Voto, Blanca Ruiz Esparza Díaz De León, Héctor Omar Gonzaléz Romo

Interiority

The paper demonstrates the application of Henri Lefebvre's postulates in the hermeneutical study of the Peres Maldonado Ex-voto, created in Aguascalientes in 1777. This piece, authored by an unknown artist, likely illustrates the first mastectomy performed in Mexican lands. This study employs an analytical framework that integrates the propositions made by the philosopher Henri Lefebvre and the experiential spatial systems proposed by the authors. The former formulates a conceptual foundation that unfolds the body in three spatial dimensions: mental, physical, and social. The unfolding could make possible the defragmentation of the painting's elements to analyse the concept of corporeality or …

Population Variability Across Geographical Ranges: Perspectives And Challenges, Cleber Ten Caten, Tad Dallas Jan 2025

Population Variability Across Geographical Ranges: Perspectives And Challenges, Cleber Ten Caten, Tad Dallas

Faculty Publications

Populations fluctuate over time and across geographical space, and understanding how different factors contribute to population variability is a central goal in population ecology. There is a particular interest in identifying trends of population variability within geographical ranges as population densities of species can fluctuate substantially across geographical space. A common assumption is that populations vary more near species geographical range edges because of unsuitable environments and higher vulnerability to environmental variability in these areas. However, empirical data rarely support this expectation, suggesting that population variability is not related to its position within species geographical ranges. We propose that performance …

Department of Internal Medicine Faculty Research

Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy (CRT) has been established as a major component of heart failure management, resulting in a significant reduction in patient morbidity and death for patients with increased QRS duration, low left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), and high risk of arrhythmias. The ability to synchronize both ventricles, lower heart failure hospitalizations, and optimize clinical outcomes are some of the attractive characteristics of biventricular pacing, or CRT. However, the high rate of CRT non-responders has led to the development of new modalities including leadless CRT pacemakers (CRT-P) and devices focused on conduction system pacing (CSP). This comprehensive review aims to …

The Middle Voice In Najdi Arabic: A Morphological Description, Abdulrahman N/A Althawab Dr., Sara Alotaishan Mrs.

Journal of Arabic Sciences and Humanities

Voice category is an essential grammatical aspect of verb constructions in linguistics. It is widely known that voice involves two main types: active and passive. However, there is a possibility of having a third grammatical voice known as the middle voice. Based on the relevant literature, the middle voice is a controversial topic that has aroused debate over its linguistic properties. This paper, therefore, aims to investigate some of the middle voice linguistic properties within a morphological context. More specifically, it attempts to identify the middle voice verb patterns and examine their existence using a linguistic test in one of …

Genetic variants in the genes GRIN1, GRIN2A, GRIN2B, and GRIN2D, which encode subunits of the N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR), have been associated with severe and heterogeneous neurologic and neurodevelopmental disorders, including early onset epilepsy, developmental and epileptic encephalopathy, intellectual disability, and autism spectrum disorders. Missense variants in these genes can result in gain or loss of the NMDAR function, requiring opposite therapeutic treatments. Computational methods that predict pathogenicity and molecular functional effects of missense variants are therefore crucial for therapeutic applications. We assembled 223 missense variants from patients, 631 control variants from the general population, and 160 missense variants characterized by …

Research Review: "Veteran Affairs Disability Compensation: Likely The U.S.’S Largest Disability Program, But What Do We Know About Its Impacts On Service-Disabled Veterans?", Institute For Veterans And Military Families At Syracuse University

Institute for Veterans and Military Families

This research review highlights the complexities of estimating the causal impacts of the Veterans Affairs Disability Compensation (VADC) program. The authors suggest that reliable estimates of the causal impact of VADC on labor market outcomes requires estimates of the causal impact of other programs available to veterans with service-connected disabilities. Currently, there is limited evidence of the causal impact of these programs, pointing to several opportunities for practice, policy, and future research.

Dog Skull Shape Challenges Assumptions Of Performance Specialization From Selective Breeding, Nicholas Hebdon, Alexa Ortega, Alexander Orlove, Nichole Wheeler, Mia Pham, Vivian Nguyen, Justin Gladman, Lindsay D. Waldrop

Biology, Chemistry, and Environmental Sciences Faculty Articles and Research

Through selective breeding, humans have driven exceptional morphological diversity in domestic dogs, creating more than 200 recognized breeds developed for specialized functional tasks such as herding, protection, and hunting. Here, we use three-dimensional reconstructions of dog skulls to ask whether these function-oriented kennel-club groups reflect differences in morphology that correspond to those functions. We analyzed 117 canid skulls, representing 40 domestic dog breeds and 18 wild subspecies, using geometric morphometric techniques and k-means clustering. Results show near-full overlap in kennel-club groups and with natural species, except for companion dogs having extreme snout shape. When categorized by task-specific historic function …
