Adaptive Control And Optimization Methods In Complex Robotic Systems Using Artificial Intelligence Algorithms, Otajon Normuminovich Norboyev Jun 2026

Adaptive Control And Optimization Methods In Complex Robotic Systems Using Artificial Intelligence Algorithms, Otajon Normuminovich Norboyev

Chemical Technology, Control and Management

This research addresses the critical problem of controlling complex robotic systems characterized by parametric uncertainty and external disturbances. Within the scope of this work, a novel adaptive control model was developed based on the integration of artificial intelligence elements and modern control theory. The proposed approach combines classical nonlinear control theory, Lyapunov stability analysis, and neural function approximation mechanisms into a single, unified system. The primary advantage of this model is that it does not require prior exact knowledge of system parameters and ensures high precision and energy efficiency by minimizing the control functional in real-time. Unknown system dynamics are …

Integration Of Adaptive Kalman Filter And Bayesian Models For Diagnostics And Reliability Assessment Of Vision Sensors, Rustam Tulkunovich Khamdamov, Marjona Jasubek Qizi Xoliqova Jun 2026

Integration Of Adaptive Kalman Filter And Bayesian Models For Diagnostics And Reliability Assessment Of Vision Sensors, Rustam Tulkunovich Khamdamov, Marjona Jasubek Qizi Xoliqova

Chemical Technology, Control and Management

Vision-based sensors constitute a cornerstone of contemporary automation, robotics, and intelligent transportation systems, where their reliability directly determines operational safety and efficiency. Conventional Kalman filtering achieves optimal state estimation under linear dynamics and stationary noise assumptions, yet its performance deteriorates in the presence of sensor malfunctions or nonstationary environments. This study proposes an innovative framework that couples an adaptive Kalman filter with Bayesian inference to strengthen diagnostic capabilities and reliability evaluation of vision sensors. The Kalman filter provides dynamic state tracking, while Bayesian reasoning enables probabilistic fault identification and reliability quantification. The methodological novelty lies in the real-time adjustment of …

Programmes That Integrate Parenting Support And Financial Well-Being Support: A Systematic Scoping Review, Eleanor F. Bryant, Morwenna Rogers, Amy Bond, Georgia Smith, Rebecca Summers, James Hall, Kristin Liabo, Iain Lang, Vashti Berry, Nick Axford Jun 2026

Programmes That Integrate Parenting Support And Financial Well-Being Support: A Systematic Scoping Review, Eleanor F. Bryant, Morwenna Rogers, Amy Bond, Georgia Smith, Rebecca Summers, James Hall, Kristin Liabo, Iain Lang, Vashti Berry, Nick Axford

Peninsula Medical School

Childhood experiences of economic disadvantage have harmful and long-lasting effects on child health. Early intervention can reduce some harms but it is unclear whether addressing economic disadvantage alongside psychosocial support yields additional benefits. This systematic scoping review aimed to identify evaluated programmes that integrate parenting support (PS) and financial well-being support (FWbS) for parents of children aged 0–19. The objectives were to describe programmes, relevant components, evaluation designs and impact on outcomes, and to consider if any programmes merit replication and testing in a UK context. Outcome or implementation evaluations of integrated PS and FWbS programmes published in English were …

Coupled Multiphysics Transport-Reaction Modeling Framework For Combustion Synthesis Of Cement Phases: Insights Into Β-C2s Formation And Wavefront Dynamics, Sayee Srikarah Volaity, Shubham Agrawal, Aditya Kumar, Narayanan Neithalath Jun 2026

Coupled Multiphysics Transport-Reaction Modeling Framework For Combustion Synthesis Of Cement Phases: Insights Into Β-C2s Formation And Wavefront Dynamics, Sayee Srikarah Volaity, Shubham Agrawal, Aditya Kumar, Narayanan Neithalath

Materials Science and Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

Biofuel-based combustion synthesis (BCS) processes offer low-temperature, low-carbon routes to lime and clinker production. However, they involve tightly coupled interactions between heat transfer, gas flow, and sequential solid-state reactions within reactive pellets. Experiments typically provide surface temperature evolution and final phase assemblages but give limited insight into the conversion process and the interaction between composition and process conditions. A coupled transport-reaction framework is developed here to resolve this limitation─the synthesis of β-C2S (belite), a major cementing phase, serving as an example. Transient conservation equations for energy, momentum, and species are solved for a porous pellet exchanging heat and mass with …

Trimming of the three glucose residues decorating nascent N-glycoproteins is a critical step for their entry into the endoplasmic reticulum quality control (ERQC) and recognition by ER chaperones. However, the functional relevance of the second glucose (G2) and the regulatory step upstream of its removal by glucosidase II (GCS2) remain poorly understood. Here, we report that TUSC3, a component of the oligosaccharyltransferase (OST) complex, regulates G2 to G1 trimming on N-glycosylated bone morphogenetic protein 4 (BMP4) and its Drosophila homolog Dpp to promote their ERQC entry. Loss- and gain-of-function genetic experiments and biochemical assays in mammalian cells and flies indicate …

Faculty, Staff and Students Publications

Background: Despite the widespread adoption of chemoimmunotherapy in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), the mechanisms by which cytotoxic chemotherapy engages antitumor immunity remain poorly defined. Identifying tumor-intrinsic immunogenic programs that predict and enhance responsiveness to immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) is therefore of critical clinical importance.

Methods: Transcriptomic signatures of TREX1 deficiency were generated from CRISPR-engineered TNBC models and applied to multiple independent TNBC cohorts treated with chemoimmunotherapy. Cytosolic single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) accumulation was quantified using a flow cytometry-based assay to functionally screen chemotherapeutic agents. Immune activation and therapeutic efficacy were evaluated using in vitro assays, syngeneic mouse tumor models, flow cytometry, …

Judicial Rhetoric: Writing Persuasive Opinions, Gerald Lebovits Jun 2026

Judicial Rhetoric: Writing Persuasive Opinions, Gerald Lebovits

Arkansas Law Review

In 1947, Judge George Rose Smith denounced, in the Arkansas Law Review, the “dearth of material concerning the mechanics of writing a judicial opinion” as a “striking omission in legal literature.” He was right.

The lack of attention given to the judicial opinion-writing process back then was hard to justify. Judges spend much of their time writing decisions. Decisions are important. They determine rights and responsibilities, as well as resolve controversies. Scholars have written about every aspect of judging and legal issue—except one of the most important ones: how to decide a case and justify the decision. Judicial opinions set …

Bronx Jewish History Project

This interviewee looks back very fondly on his childhood growing up in the Bronx. His parents came to America from Poland in the early 1950s after being in a displaced persons camp in Germany, and settled in a one bedroom apartment on University Avenue off of Kingsbridge road. He recounts a diverse neighborhood, growing up not just around other Jewish people but people from Ireland, Italy, Poland, and of many religious backgrounds as well.

He remembers playing stickball, baseball, and other games on the concrete sidewalk, stating how he and his friends were happy, as “when you're a child and …

Crowd-Sourced Glacier Mapping As A Tool For Enhancing Climate Literacy And Data Generation, Caroline Clason, Sally Rangecroft, Shaun Lewin, Gina Kallis, Tom Mullier, Will Blake, Iain Stewart

School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences

Citizen science approaches are increasingly used to support data generation and public engagement across the environmental sciences, yet their wider pedagogical value within physical geography remains underexamined. To explore the value of mapping-based citizen science for both glaciological investigation and geographical learning, we developed GlacierMap, an interactive online tool enabling participants to map glacier change in Peru’s Cordillera Blanca over a 34-year period. GlacierMap was designed not only to assess the feasibility and value of crowd-sourced glacier mapping, but also as a vehicle to support experiential learning of the trends in, and impacts of, tropical mountain glacier retreat. Participants mapped …

Unveiling Unwritten Curricula: Enhancing Junior Faculty Development In Academic Emergency Medicine, Abagayle Bierowski, Casey Morrone, Erin Hoag, Ridhima Ghei, Michael Pasirstein, Julie Blaszczak, Dimitrios Papanagnou

Department of Emergency Medicine Faculty Papers

INTRODUCTION: The transition from resident to junior faculty in academic emergency medicine (EM) may be shaped not only by formal training and institutional policies but also by the "unwritten curriculum," a set of norms and expectations embedded in institutional culture. However, the unwritten curriculum and its potential to impact junior faculty development remains largely unexplored. Little is known about how junior faculty perceive, experience, and navigate these informal expectations, or the formal and informal structures that influence this process. In this study we aimed to explore junior faculty members' experiences with the unwritten curriculum in academic EM, with a focus …

Letter To The Editor: Hemodynamic Role In Hepatic Encephalopathy Pathogenesis Following Transjugular Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt Placement, John Halphen, Yash S Dayal, Cameron Laurie, Mohadese Ahmadzade, David Wynne, Mohammad Ghasemi-Rad Jun 2026

Letter To The Editor: Hemodynamic Role In Hepatic Encephalopathy Pathogenesis Following Transjugular Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt Placement, John Halphen, Yash S Dayal, Cameron Laurie, Mohadese Ahmadzade, David Wynne, Mohammad Ghasemi-Rad

Faculty, Staff and Students Publications

Hepatic encephalopathy (HE) is a common complication following transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) placement and is thought to result from reduced hepatic detoxification of neurotoxins. However, Zhuang et al in the World Journal of Radiology demonstrate that this understanding may be incomplete through exploration of the pathophysiology from a hemodynamic perspective. They found significant changes in cerebral blood flow (CBF) and spontaneous brain activity following TIPS. Initially, CBF increased in specific areas within the first month, followed by a return to baseline at three months. These CBF changes coincided with increased spontaneous brain activity that persisted in some areas, suggesting …

Ethical Pedagogy In Marketing: Faculty Perspectives On Generative Artificial Intelligence Using Thematic Analysis, Maria Naureen Shahid, Oscar Robayo-Pinzon, Sandra Rojas-Berrio, Sana Irfan

The Qualitative Report

Because of the potential misuse of ChatGPT for coursework and student learning, marketing educators must investigate how to protect students' honesty and integrity. Additionally, it is crucial to examine whether marketing professors are modifying their pedagogy to promote learner autonomy rather than dependence on Artificial Intelligence (AI). This study addresses two central questions: How do marketing educators preserve students' honesty and integrity amidst the potential misuse of ChatGPT for coursework and learning? How are marketing professors adjusting their pedagogy to ensure learner autonomy rather than dependency on AI tools like ChatGPT? To explore these issues, semi-structured interviews were conducted with …

Review Of: Documents Of Brotherly Love, Dutch Mennonite Aid To Swiss Anabaptists, Volumes I, Ii, Iii—James M. Lowry, Sheldon Raber

Journal of Amish and Plain Anabaptist Studies

This set of three volumes of documents adds greatly to the accessibility of important historical documents by and about the Anabaptists in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Many original documents and correspondence from this time period were preserved, primarily in Amsterdam. However, since the original documents were written in German, Swiss, and Dutch, they were not easily consulted by English-speaking historians and specifically by American Mennonite historians. And even though most of the documents were inventoried in the late nineteenth century, they were only selectively consulted by historians of the twentieth century. Since this reviewer is not schooled in languages, …

Review Of: “Singen Is A Part Vu Unsern Lebm”: Musik Bei Den Hutterern Von Fairholme/Manitoba—Judith Rubatscher, Vlatka Škender

Journal of Amish and Plain Anabaptist Studies

In winter 2012, I serendipitously stumbled upon a recording of the Hutterites singing which, to my bewilderment, mesmerized me with a swiftness and intensity thus unbeknown. It was a splendid exhibition of YouTube’s algorithmic erraticism: the aural acrobatics of Bach and the melancholy-inducing Händel’s Sarabande were succeeded by a chant that was—as per Henrik Ibsen’s (alleged) final words—“quite the contrary.” The choir sung of transcendence in a manner so basal and blissful, and so barefacedly human as only a folk song can be, that one was compelled to listen with downcast eyes. And thus began my journey to the Anabaptists: …

Review Of: Old Order Mennonite Spirituality: Analysis Of Ascetical And Mystical Parallels In Medieval Monasticism And A Contemporary Anabaptist Community—Andrew C. Martin, David Gilland, Laura Kelly, Donald Martin

Journal of Amish and Plain Anabaptist Studies

Andrew Carl Martin’s doctoral dissertation is a welcome addition to the ecclesiologically significant, yet surprisingly under-researched topic of the relationship between strands in medieval Catholicism, especially monasticism, and Anabaptism in its various manifestations. To go a step further, Martin’s research deals specifically with Benedictine spirituality as outlined by The Rule of St. Benedict and a previously underappreciated branch of its legacy as found among the Old Order Mennonites in North America. That we are dealing with an “Order” in both cases is no insignificant aspect of the argument, for Martin ably shows that, direct historical connections notwithstanding, Old Order Mennonites …

Historian David “Titus” Luthy (1941–2025): A Principled Convert, The Personification Of Academia Among The Amish, Cory Anderson

Journal of Amish and Plain Anabaptist Studies

David Richard Luthy—Amish historian, bibliographer, editor, and the founding steward of the Heritage Historical Library at Aylmer, Ontario—died on Oct 21, 2025, in North Carolina, where he had gone two weeks earlier to be near his children after spending a last summer at his home in Aylmer. He was 84. Worthy of a New York Times obituary, his passing drew little notice beyond Amish and Plain Anabaptist circles, yet few figures of the past half-century did more to shape how the Old Order Amish remember themselves or what primary materials scholars have been able to access. By any reckoning, he …

Workplace Environmental Exposures And Related Health Conditions Among Amish & Mennonite Women In Ohio, Lora Wyss, Ratchneewan Ross, Rosanna Hess

Journal of Amish and Plain Anabaptist Studies

Background: Although it is known that some plain (Amish and conservative Mennonite) women work in furniture finishing shops, commercial greenhouses, and on family farms, little is known about their exposure to harmful conditions and substances in those work environments and the incidence of any related illnesses. Aim: To assess the relationship between the exposure to potentially harmful environmental conditions and general health conditions, work-related illnesses, and work-related injuries, comparing adult plain women with adult women of the general population. Methods: Data in this exploratory, concurrent, mixed methods study were collected using a 24-item survey and semi-structured interviews. Descriptive and correlational …

The Sociologists And The Anthropologists: Intellectual Imaginations Of Mennonite Settlements In The Paraguayan Chaco, Samuel Boucher Jun 2026

The Sociologists And The Anthropologists: Intellectual Imaginations Of Mennonite Settlements In The Paraguayan Chaco, Samuel Boucher

Journal of Amish and Plain Anabaptist Studies

The debates over Indigenous rights and missionary intervention in Paraguay’s Chaco were shaped not only by international declarations and local conditions but by the sociologists and anthropologists who interpreted—and contested—them. North American sociologists such as J. Winfield Fretz, Jacob Loewen, and Calvin Redekop studied the Mennonite colonies as agents of modern development, weighing the achievements and shortcomings of their mission efforts. The Paraguayan anthropologist Miguel Chase-Sardi cast those same colonists as foreign capitalists exploiting their Indigenous neighbors, drawing international scrutiny through his contribution to the 1971 Barbados Declaration and its charge of ethnocide. The ensuing clash with administrators such as …

Using Amish Scribes’ Newspaper Letters To Portray The New Wilmington, Pa, Amish Settlement, Kristin Park

Journal of Amish and Plain Anabaptist Studies

In studying distinctive ethnoreligious communities, it is preferable to listen to and analyze the voices of members themselves. This paper interprets the professed values, activities, and priorities of an understudied, hybrid Andy Weaver / Old Order Amish settlement using Amish scribes’ letters to two Amish and one non-Amish newspaper. Quantitative and qualitative content analysis of the newspaper letters discovered dominant themes of emotional expression, illness and accidents, visits, weather, and work and compared their prevalence across the newspapers. Amish newspapers were more emotionally expressive and highlighted members’ illness and injury while the non-Amish newspaper primarily focused on visiting, weather, and …

Key Issues In Samuel Taylor Coleridge’S Biographia Literaria, Khalid Lahlou

SOROUD: The journal of Literacy Criticism

The paper presents some key issues put forward in Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s Biographia Literaria (1817). The paper also aims to show, and review, the extent to which the Biographia echoes Coleridge’s intent relative to such topics as poetry, literary criticism and philosophy. Likewise, the paper briefly illuminates some narrative techniques that Coleridge has called for while composing the different chapters constituting the oeuvre.

The Translator’S Biography And The Politics Of Representation The Case Of Soviet Russia, Brian James Baer Jun 2026

The Translator’S Biography And The Politics Of Representation The Case Of Soviet Russia, Brian James Baer

SOROUD: The journal of Literacy Criticism

This study discusses the various and limitless potentials of representing the self. Poststructuralist approaches to the study of culture have problematized the opposition of fiction and nonfiction by emphasizing the literariness of those modes of writing that pretend to offer unmediated access to reality, that is, to present their subjects “in all the totality, there-ness, and authenticity of their being”. The seeds for that deconstructive move were sewn within literary studies by Roland Barthes, who argued that realist fiction did not present reality as it is but rather employed a variety of devices to create “l’effet de réel” (Barthes 1968). …

Life Writing Knowledge And Narrative Medicine : Creating The Transnational Self, Alfred Hornung Jun 2026

Life Writing Knowledge And Narrative Medicine : Creating The Transnational Self, Alfred Hornung

SOROUD: The journal of Literacy Criticism

Poetry and narration are among the most distinctive expressions of lifewriting. Poetic and narrative representations of the self, often associated with discrimination and disease, have got a psychotherapeutic effect. Ideally, collaborating agents in life- writing and narrative would produce a kind of societal knowledge with a global dimension, transcending the individual selfawareness, creating thus a framework for a would-be social integration. This paper is concerned with Audre Lorde’s poetic and narrative report on breast cancer, preceding her years in Berlin as a visiting professor in the 1980s, when her own experience as a “black lesbian poet or feminist lover” testified …

Autobiographical Characteristics In Khatibi’S ‘Tattooed Memory’, Mourad El Khatibi Jun 2026

Autobiographical Characteristics In Khatibi’S ‘Tattooed Memory’, Mourad El Khatibi

SOROUD: The journal of Literacy Criticism

The study discusses the main autobiographical characteristics of Abdelkébir Khatibi’s “Tattooed Memory” (1971). This novel is Khatibi’s first literary work and it is regarded by the critics as a postcolonial novel because it tackles issues such as identity, culture and language from a postcolonial perspective. Therefore, this literary work aims at proposing some answers to some questions such as the meanings of the Self and the Other within postcolonial theory and the different manifestations of both the Self and the Other. This article did not deal with this literary work as a postcolonial novel but as an autobiographical narrative. So, …
