Ultrasonic Spray Coating Of Carbon Fibers For Composite Cathodes In Structural Batteries, Thomas Burns, Liliana Delatte, Gabriela Roman-Martinez, Kyra Glassey, Paul Ziehl, Monirosadat Sadati, Ralph E. White, Paul T. Coman Apr 2025

Ultrasonic Spray Coating Of Carbon Fibers For Composite Cathodes In Structural Batteries, Thomas Burns, Liliana Delatte, Gabriela Roman-Martinez, Kyra Glassey, Paul Ziehl, Monirosadat Sadati, Ralph E. White, Paul T. Coman

Faculty Publications

Structural batteries, also known as “massless batteries”, integrate energy storage directly into load-bearing materials, offering a transformative alternative to traditional Li-ion batteries. Unlike conventional systems that serve only as energy storage devices, structural batteries replace passive structural components, reducing overall weight while providing mechanical reinforcement. However, achieving uniform and efficient coatings of active materials on carbon fibers remains a major challenge, limiting their scalability and electrochemical performance. This study investigates ultrasonic spray coating as a precise and scalable technique for fabricating composite cathodes in structural batteries. Using a computer-controlled ultrasonic nozzle, this method ensures uniform deposition with minimal material waste …

Reducing Information Asymmetry: Economic Value Of Airbnb Signals In A Small College Town, Hatice Sena Akkurt Apr 2025

Reducing Information Asymmetry: Economic Value Of Airbnb Signals In A Small College Town, Hatice Sena Akkurt

Theses and Dissertations

Trust is the backbone of platform operations. Airbnb platform designers implement various methods including trust-building mechanisms, user interface (UI) artifacts, and reputation management systems. Previous research has explored trust in Airbnb, yet little is known about the economic value of trust indicators in smaller cities and rural areas. Thus, this thesis investigates the economic significance of User Interface (UI) artifacts, including the “Superhost” badge, star ratings, and listing photographs, within the peer-to-peer accommodation sector in the Columbia Metropolitan Area. Drawing on signaling theory, we conducted quantitative analysis, to examine the relationship between trust indicators and listing prices, controlling factors like …

The purpose of this research was to develop an understanding of my second-grade students’ creativity and agency in game-like music activities during peer-to-peer social interactions in music learning centers. Following were the guiding research questions for this study. During music learning centers: 1) How did students create game-like music activities, 2) What types of play did they demonstrate, 3) How did they describe their experiences, and 4) What music characteristics did they demonstrate? I collected data during three 50-minute second-grade music classes over the course of two weeks at St. Peter’s Catholic School (SPCS). I used the following data collection …

Building Trustable Methods For Group Recommendations: Advancing Fairness And Robustness Across Domains, Siva Likitha Valluru Apr 2025

Building Trustable Methods For Group Recommendations: Advancing Fairness And Robustness Across Domains, Siva Likitha Valluru

Theses and Dissertations

On the internet, where the number of available choices for information is exponentially growing, there is a need to prioritize and deliver relevant results to users efficiently, on demand. Recommendation systems (RSs) address that need by searching through and filtering large amounts of dynamically generated information and providing users with recommendations tailored to them. These systems have primarily focused on (1) single-user models, where recommendations are tailored towards a specific individual, or (2) single-item models, where items are recommended based on a broader appeal to users and similarities in item metadata, in the past. In many real-world scenarios, however, recommendation …

Exploring Modernist Traits In The Guitar Works Of Manuel María Ponce, Michael William Bunny Apr 2025

Exploring Modernist Traits In The Guitar Works Of Manuel María Ponce, Michael William Bunny

Theses and Dissertations

Music of the early twentieth century developed drastically from that of previous eras. With Debussy’s emphasis on tone color and timbre, Stravinsky’s rhythmic complexities, and Bartók’s incorporation of folk music, the twentieth century had a far different sound to that which preceded it. Each of these composers demonstrated different practices of this new genre called modernism. However, likely due to Andrés Segovia’s dislike of modernist music, there were not many popular composers that followed this trend in the guitar world. Those composing for the guitar shied away from attributes of modernism, ensuring that their works would be played. Manuel María …

A Performance And Pedagogical Guide To William Butler Yeats Songs By Ben Moore, James Allen

Theses and Dissertations

American composer, Ben Moore, has written music that has spanned genres including operas, children’s operas, art songs, cabaret songs, and musical theatre songs. His career spans multiple decades, but his music is not performed as often as it should in the Classical Music community. Moore’s music can be daunting at first glance, but many of his composition stylings are present in many of his works. Should one learn how to navigate one of his art songs, they will have a guide that should translate over to his other works. I have decided to focus on the seven art songs with …

The Association Between Parent’S Mobile Device Use And Physical Activity, Sydney Hill Apr 2025

The Association Between Parent’S Mobile Device Use And Physical Activity, Sydney Hill

Theses and Dissertations

Background. The rapid increase in mobile technology has allowed smartphones to be used almost anywhere, but a potential disadvantage of these mobile devices is the displacement of physical activity. Parents of young children are already struggling to reach higher intensities of physical activity and mobile devices might make this worse. However, most existing research on similar topics look at adults without children or uses subjective measures only. Therefore, this study aims to (1) quantify objective mobile device use from a sample of parents with preschool age children; (2) describe the duration and intensity of parents’ physical activity and inactive behavior; …

The Impact Of School-Wide Positive Behavior Interventions And Supports On Middle School Behavior Outcomes In A Post-Covid Educational Environment, Breann N. Hulford

Education Dissertations

This study is a program evaluation utilizing a causal-comparative pre/post design to assess the impact of School-Wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (SWPBIS) on behavioral outcomes in a post-COVID middle school. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, behavioral challenges, including classroom disruption and violence, increased, intensifying the need for structured behavior management systems. SWPBIS provides a framework for promoting a positive school culture through structured behavior expectations and reinforcement strategies. Grounded in behaviorism, social learning theory, and Response to Intervention (RtI), SWPBIS contrasts with zero-tolerance policies and restorative practices, which are also examined for their impact as alternative behavior management approaches. Empirical …
