Seed Of The Woman, Son Of David, Son Of Abraham: Exploring The Progression Of God’S Redemptive Plan For All Nations And Rethinking Gentile Integration In Messianic Hope, Dieufort Dieujuste

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

This dissertation examines and reconstructs the progression of God’s redemptive plan for humanity, exploring its inception from an oracular promise in Genesis and investigating how it unfolds through various promises, covenants, and prophecies culminating in Jesus, the Messiah, identified as the seed of the Woman (Gen. 3:15b), Son of David, Son Abraham (Matt. 1:1). Central to this exploration is the theological significance of key biblical figures and historical events while tracing the development of the promise of redemption from Genesis to the New Testament. One can suitably underscore the universal scope of God’s covenant to extend blessings to all nations …

A Hierarchy Of Pdz Domain Scaffolding Proteins Clusters The Kv1 K+ Channel Protein Complex At The Axon Initial Segment, Wei Zhang, Victoria L Palfini, Yu Wu, Xiaoyun Ding, Allison J Melton, Yudong Gao, Yuki Ogawa, Matthew N Rasband May 2025

A Hierarchy Of Pdz Domain Scaffolding Proteins Clusters The Kv1 K+ Channel Protein Complex At The Axon Initial Segment, Wei Zhang, Victoria L Palfini, Yu Wu, Xiaoyun Ding, Allison J Melton, Yudong Gao, Yuki Ogawa, Matthew N Rasband

Faculty, Staff and Students Publications

Action potentials are initiated and modulated at the axon initial segment (AIS) by highly clustered ion channels. Voltage-gated Kv1 potassium channels underlie most outward AIS K+ current. AIS Kv1 channels exist in a large protein complex including ADAM22, Caspr2, and LGI1. However, their clustering mechanisms remain unknown. Because Kv1 channels have a highly conserved PDZ-binding motif, we used CRISPR-based genome editing to screen 18 PDZ domain-containing proteins identified in our previous AIS proximity proteome for their AIS localization. Among these, we found that the scaffolding proteins SCRIB and PSD93 are highly enriched at the AIS. Using CRISPR-mediated knockout, cell surface …

Okinawan-American Organizational Cross-Cultural Communication Behaviors, Cara J. Barr May 2025

Okinawan-American Organizational Cross-Cultural Communication Behaviors, Cara J. Barr

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Existing literature relating to Okinawa is sparse and outdated. There is a crucial need to study Okinawan-American cross-cultural organizational communication behaviors, as many U.S. military members and civilians work throughout Okinawa. Additionally, Japanese-American or Eastern-to-Western-cultured communication literature fails to identify and often misinterprets communication behaviors. Current literature also fails to account for the societal and personal constructs of cross-cultural communication differences that cause misinterpretations. Utilizing sociocultural and sociopsychological traditions, the research is grounded primarily in Identity Negotiation Theory, with aspects of Expectancy Violations Theory. Using qualitative research that relied on semi-structured interviews, twenty-four participants, equal parts Okinawan and American, were …

Surveillance, Punishment, And Rebellion: The Eye Of Sauron And Foucauldian Panopticism In J. R. R. Tolkien’S The Lord Of The Rings, Isabel M. Birge

Journal of Tolkien Research

This article uses Michel Foucault's theory of Panopticism, as outlined in his book Discipline and Punish as a framework for understanding the role of surveillance in Middle-earth throughout J. R. R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings. Drawing parallels between Foucault’s understanding of the Panopticon of Jeremy Bentham and Tolkien’s depiction of Sauron’s totalitarian vision, the paper explores the ways in which power operates invisibly through intermediaries, such as the Orcs and the Nazgûl, who internalize Sauron’s all-seeing gaze and perpetuate his dominion as well as through magical/technological means of gazing such as the Palantíri. This essay argues that, …

Who Really Invented Servant Leadership?, Essraa Nawar

Library Articles and Research

"That program gave me tools and vocabulary I still carry today—frameworks like transformational leadership, emotional intelligence, and ethical decision-making. But one concept stood out to me more than any other: servant leadership.

Robert Greenleaf’s idea that a great leader begins as a servant—putting others’ needs first, listening deeply, and nurturing the growth of others—felt less like something I was learning, and more like something I was remembering.

Because I had seen it before. Not in business school. Not in theory. But in faith, family, and the life of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ."

A History Of Post-Roe America And Canada: From Intertwined Abortion Battles To Dobbs, Mugambi Jouet

Northwestern Journal of Human Rights

The changing landscape on abortion following Dobbs has not only sparked a vigorous debate in the United States, but also abroad. Its recriminalization in America led to an outcry in peer Western democracies, whose leaders widely condemned the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision. Yet the social and historical reasons for this international divide are poorly understood.

This Article sheds light on the question through an in-depth comparison of America and Canada from Roe to Dobbs, as the neighboring nations’ abortion histories have been intertwined in intriguing and overlooked ways. When the U.S. Supreme Court decided Roe v. Wade in 1973, …

Understanding Host-Pathogen Interactions Using The Caenorhabditis Elegans – Orsay Virus Experimental Model, Chika Fujii

Arts & Sciences Graduate Student Theses and Dissertations

Over an evolutionary timeline, viruses have evolved ways to exploit biochemical pathways of the host for their propagation, whereas host organisms developed mechanisms to recognize virus infection and cope with them. Consequently, a better understanding of the different host factors involved in virus replication could provide insights into potential biological pathways or molecules for therapeutic targeting. Furthermore, detailed dissection of the mechanisms of virus sensing could reveal fundamentally important aspects of virus sensing that are evolutionarily conserved to mammals and offer insights into potentially underexplored areas of research. The C. elegans experimental model offers a useful platform for studying evolutionarily …

Through a constructivist teaching experiment with two Latina students, Yari and Jocelyn, this research investigates how working to establish and maintain CMCRs can influence Latin* students' rate of change development.

Findings illustrate that CMCRs supported the development of Yari and Jocelyn's rate …

Stomatal Distribution And Post-Fire Recovery: Intra-And Interspecific Variation In Plants Of The Pyrogenic Florida Scrub, Genevieve Triplett, Aaron S. David May 2025

Stomatal Distribution And Post-Fire Recovery: Intra-And Interspecific Variation In Plants Of The Pyrogenic Florida Scrub, Genevieve Triplett, Aaron S. David

Faculty Publications

Premise

Amphistomy, the presence of stomata on both leaf surfaces, can increase photosynthesis yet is uncommon across vascular plants. The relative infrequency of amphistomy is often attributed to high costs, such as transpirational water loss. The Florida scrub—a hot, dry, shrub-dominated habitat—historically has experienced frequent fire, yet decades of anthropogenic suppression coupled with the reintroduction of prescribed burns has led to varied fire regimes. In this study, we investigated the links between amphistomy and fire with regard to the presence of the trait across species in this pyrogenic habitat and within-species variation before and after experimental fire and across a …

Effects Of Fibrogenic And Non Fibrogenic Nanomaterials On Cellular And Molecular Responses In Thp-1 Macrophage, Adedayo E. Oyerinde

Biotechnology Theses

Traditional toxicological testing of nanomaterials is often low-throughput and time-consuming. Here, we aimed to develop an economically viable in vitro assay to prescreen nanomaterials with fibrogenic potential. To this end, we tested the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) as well as cytokines (pro- and anti-inflammatory) by macrophages following treatment with fibrogenic and non-fibrogenic nanomaterials. Both classes of nanomaterials induced ROS indistinguishably, suggesting that ROS production doesn’t predict nanomaterial fibrogenicity. We observed higher levels of IL1β and IL6 in macrophages treated with fibrogenic nanomaterials. Analysis of single-cell RNA-Sequencing data of fibrotic lungs from rodents and humans revealed overexpression of Brain …
