This study examines whether PT Adhi Persada Properti (PT APP) qualifies as a good-faith purchaser under a Land Sale and Purchase Binding Agreement (Perjanjian Pengikatan Jual Beli/PPJB) and is therefore entitled to legal protection in a dispute culminating in Indonesian Supreme Court Decision No. 524 B/Pdt.Sus-Arbt/2024. The study employs a normative juridical method, applying statutory, conceptual/doctrinal, and case-based approaches through an analysis of BANI Surabaya Arbitration Award No. 64/ARB/BANI-SBY/II/2023, Bekasi District Court Decision No. 531/Pdt.Sus-Arb/2023/PN Bks, and Supreme Court Decision No. 524 B/Pdt.Sus-Arbt/2024. The study finds that a PPJB establishes an obligational relationship; accordingly, PT APP is positioned as a …
Institutional Design For Economic Development In Transmigration Areas Using The Sustainable Livelihoods Framework (Slf) — The Pentahelix Model To Accelerate Tourism: A Case Study Of Simeulue, Reza Nur Arsyi
Jurnal Vokasi Indonesia
Simeulue's tourism sector possesses natural advantages (world-class beaches and waves), yet its added value has not been optimally converted at the regional level, particularly within the Selaut Transmigration Area (KT Selaut). This finding provides a blueprint for tourism economics based on the Sustainable Livelihoods Framework (SLF) and Pentahelix collaboration (ABCGM) to strengthen the end-to-end tourism value chain. Methods: desk review of statistical documents and policies, supplemented by planning synthesis (RIPPDA). Results: (1) Simeulue has 138 villages across 11 sub-districts, with strategic village institutional foundations but tourism capacity remains dispersed; (2) indications of the absence of star-rated accommodations and limited amenity …

The Final Payroll: Human Resources, Meet Machine Resources, Sarah Yee
Student Journal of Information Privacy Law
As artificial intelligence (AI) becomes increasingly embedded in employment practices, particularly in hiring and screening, the need for robust regulatory frameworks is urgent. This Article focuses on the growing use of AI in workplace decision-making, highlighting the risks of algorithmic bias and discrimination. It argues that while the United States lacks a unified legal approach to governing AI in employment, the European Union (EU) has taken a more proactive and comprehensive stance. Through instruments like the proposed EU AI Act and existing data protection laws such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the EU imposes meaningful obligations on employers …
Blurred Lines: How Mandatory Arbitration Clauses In Termsof Service Agreements Undermine Privacy Law Frameworks, Owen Curnin
Blurred Lines: How Mandatory Arbitration Clauses In Termsof Service Agreements Undermine Privacy Law Frameworks, Owen Curnin
Student Journal of Information Privacy Law
Following the birth of the Federal Arbitration Act–which made arbitration agreements valid, enforceable, and irrevocable in courts of law–mandatory arbitration clause use in commercial, consumer, and employment contracts exploded. These types of clauses require parties to submit all disputes arising out of or related to a contract to an impartial third party. This third party, known as the arbitrator, reviews the facts, listens to the parties’ arguments, and makes a final, binding decision resolving the dispute. Corporations have long relied on mandatory arbitration clauses to resolve disputes privately and confidentially, often hoping to avoid the public scrutiny and accountability associated …
The Other Right To Counsel: The Civil Guarantee In State Constitutions, Dmitry Bam
The Other Right To Counsel: The Civil Guarantee In State Constitutions, Dmitry Bam
Maine Law Review
When most people speak of the right to counsel, they speak in the singular. After the Supreme Court’s seminal decision in Gideon v. Wainwright, the right to counsel in criminal prosecutions has become one of our most cherished fundamental rights. It is a right ingrained in our culture. Even children can recite the mantra that the accused have the right to a lawyer, and if they can’t afford a lawyer, one will be provided to them free of charge. It is no surprise, then, that our constitutional focus is trained on the criminal defendant’s right to counsel. After all, there …

Maine Law Review
Access to legal services in America has emerged as one of the most pressing structural challenges facing the legal community. As attorneys increasingly concentrate in metropolitan areas, large areas are left with few practicing attorneys and challenging prospects of attracting many more. The consequences of this challenge reach across nearly every aspect of life in these communities—from housing and family stability, to starting or winding down businesses, and critically, to the constitutional guarantees that attach when someone is charged with a crime. Yet, these challenges have also generated a period of genuine creativity and collaboration between communities and different institutions. …
System For Identifying Geospatial Features Using Language Model-Guided Segmentation, Mira Leung
System For Identifying Geospatial Features Using Language Model-Guided Segmentation, Mira Leung
Defensive Publications Series
Geospatial information systems can face challenges from incomplete data, such as missing locations for building entrances, and difficulties processing complex natural language queries. A system can dynamically identify geospatial features using a multi-stage process. For example, a large language model can interpret a user's natural language query and an associated image to identify a relevant point of interest. Subsequently, a specialized machine learning segmentation model can analyze a localized region of the image to delineate a specific feature, such as an entrance. This approach can facilitate the on-demand generation of geospatial feature coordinates in response to semantic requests, which can …
"Tac-Ing" On Coherence: Achieving Sustainable Baltic Sea Fisheries Management By Hooking Precautionary Science And Greater Transparency In Eu Total Catch Negotiations, Patrick Seroogy
Ocean and Coastal Law Journal
This article argues that what makes the difference in success between these two regimes is how strictly the scientific advice underlying catch limits the advice is adhered to, and the influences allowed unto decisionmakers in the catch limit negotiation process. Whereas the United States uses the scientific advice about the MSY as a strict upper limit in determining annual catch limits, the EU does not. This allows stakeholders in the EU’s CFP governance, in particular fishing industry actors, to influence regulators to raise TACs above adequately precautionary levels in the name of “balancing” sustainable fishing with short-term economic interests. The …
Rape And Sexual Assault On The High Seas: A Case Of Murky Jurisdiction, Linny Kit Tong Ng
Rape And Sexual Assault On The High Seas: A Case Of Murky Jurisdiction, Linny Kit Tong Ng
Ocean and Coastal Law Journal
Rape and sexual assault on the high seas present a complex, dual-faceted challenge encompassing both legal and socio-cultural dimensions. The high seas are marked by jurisdictional ambiguity. International law assigns jurisdiction to the flag State of the vessel. However, many vessels are registered to States lacking adequate legal frameworks or the capacity to address such crimes effectively. While international law does allow for intervention by other States under certain principles of jurisdiction, the lack of legal clarity and political will often results in hesitation from non-flag States, except for the United States. This hesitance leaves victims without recourse. This Article …

Journal of the Saudi Heart Association
Drug-coated balloons are an emerging strategy for coronary revascularization. Despite their increasing use, the comparative efficacy of sirolimus- versus paclitaxel-coated balloons (SCB vs PCB) remains uncertain. This updated meta-analysis evaluated clinical and angiographic outcomes of SCB and PCB in percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). A comprehensive search of PubMed, Scopus, and ScienceDirect was performed on August 28, 2025. Studies directly comparing SCB and PCB were included. The primary endpoint was target lesion failure (TLF), which was defined as cardiac death, target vessel myocardial infarction (TVMI), or target lesion revascularization (TLR). On follow-up angiography, secondary endpoints consisted of minimal lumen diameter (MLD), …
Becoming Modern: Households’ Electricity Use And Coping With Power Outages In Post-Socialist Dar Es Salaam, Emanuel Lukio Mchome
Becoming Modern: Households’ Electricity Use And Coping With Power Outages In Post-Socialist Dar Es Salaam, Emanuel Lukio Mchome
Tanzania Journal of Sociology
Since its invention in the 1880s, electricity has been regarded as a pervasive driver of modern life. As scholars have shown elsewhere, ideas of modernity have influenced the provision and use of electricity in cities across the globe. By and large, scholars have examined electricity-modernism in terms of the construction of high-tech electric infrastructure by major actors. Those who have studied power failures This article examines electricity-modernism from the perspective of everyday electricity use and the experience of power outages, a lens rarely used by scholars. It draws from oral history interviews and archival sources to show how ideas of …

Medicalisation And The Practice Of Labour Augmentation In Mwanza, Tanzania, Latifa Abdulla Mohamed, Richard Sambaiga, Karen Marie Moland, Siri Lange
Tanzania Journal of Sociology
Since the late 1900s, maternal health has increasingly been medicalised as a result of growing global concerns about poor maternal outcomes. An example of this medicalisation process is the use of oxytocin for labour augmentation. This practice of administering oxytocin to shorten the duration of labour is increasingly questioned. Feminist scholars have often questioned the routine use of oxytocin, depicting it as unnecessary and may constitute inappropriate use of the drug that undermines women’s autonomy and contributes to negative birth experiences. However, these feminist arguments overlook individual agency and the complex ways in which actors encounter and interact with oxytocin …

COVID-19 struck tourism more deeply than ever before and it is still less clear how tourist hotels in the remote setting of the global south navigated the crisis. Limited explored empirically and what remain less known is how the standard operating procedures were designed, perceived and effectively applied to inform resilience in specific tourist hotel setting. In this article we explore the role of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) played in rebuilding tourist hotels resilience. Karatu district Tanzania touristic space situates study context. Methodological approach adopted is qualitative research design with integration of interview, observation and pertinent hotel statistics in comparing …

Conservation Education And The Cultivation Of Environmental Responsibility: Case Studies From Sri Lanka, Jody Miller, Pasindu Dilshan Abegunawardhana
Conservation Education And The Cultivation Of Environmental Responsibility: Case Studies From Sri Lanka, Jody Miller, Pasindu Dilshan Abegunawardhana
International Journal on Responsibility
Conservation education encompasses effective pedagogical practices that enhance knowledge of the environment and foster responsible environmental actions. In addition to building an informed citizenry, conservation education is shaped by theoretical stances about the components necessary to cultivate environmental responsibility among participants and their communities. Highlighting three of our own conservation education projects in Sri Lanka as case studies, we draw from research and debates about environmental responsibility to illustrate the incorporation of environmental engagement and responsibility into these efforts, and the difficulties that arise in doing so. Sri Lanka is one of eight global biodiversity hotspots prioritized for conservation intervention. …
Khirbat Jābir: The Sculptured Decorations From The Bathhouse, Rivka Gersht
Khirbat Jābir: The Sculptured Decorations From The Bathhouse, Rivka Gersht
Qadum: Journal of Excavation Reports from Israel
The excavation of the bathhouse at Khirbat Jābir yielded twelve marble items: a female head and eleven architectural members; among them a small Corinthian capital, a bracket ornamented with a lion head, a richly decorated small pediment and a champlevé revetment plaque. All twelve items were found out of their original display context; almost all are reused spolia or recycled pieces. The workmanship of the recycled items indicates that the craftsmen employed at the Khirbat Jābir bathhouse were skilled stone carvers but had no experience in shaping figural images. The rather good workmanship of the capital and the champlevé revetment …

Pseudodifferential Absorbing Boundary Conditions For Waves, Lauren Taylor
Pseudodifferential Absorbing Boundary Conditions For Waves, Lauren Taylor
Mechanical Engineering Theses
Absorbing boundary conditions (ABCs) are required to truncate the computational domain when performing Finite Element Analyses of exterior acoustic problems where physical domain is unbounded. ABC is applied on a fictitious boundary containing the scatterer and ideally allows outgoing waves to leave without non-physical reflections. Preventing artificial reflections is essential to benefit from the accuracy of the numerical method used. Otherwise, ABC acts as a reflective surface, and artificial reflections distort the solution in the entire domain which is not recoverable by any type of refinement. Pseudodifferential ABCs were used to describe the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map which maps known boundary values …

Hemidiaphragmatic Segmental Zoster Paresis, Terrence Sanvictores, Johnson Ukken
School of Medicine Faculty Research
The reactivation of latent varicella-zoster virus within infected neurons can lead to common clinical manifestations, including rash, acute neuritis, post-herpetic neuralgia, herpes zoster ophthalmicus, and Ramsay–Hunt syndrome. Segmental zoster paresis is an unusual neurologic complication of shingles that is defined by focal asymmetric motor weakness in the myotome corresponding to skin lesions of the dermatome. Proteins contain small pockets that form due to imperfections in residue packing or the rotational and conformational movement of amino acids. In this work, we used the fluorescent probe 1-aminoanthracene (AMA) to detect a small ligand pocket in the hydrophobic core of human proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA), which is a critical protein for DNA replication and repair. Fluorescence measurements of AMA reported that the core of PCNA had a dielectric constant (ε) of 4, which was very apolar and similar to cyclohexane (ε = 2). Protein mutagenesis, photoaffinity labeling, and molecular dynamics simulations localized the binding site for AMA …
