Proteogenomic analysis is applied to samples from the CALGB 40601 (Alliance) randomized neoadjuvant trial of trastuzumab, lapatinib, or the combination to identify biomarkers associated with pathological response status. Absence of ERBB2 gene amplification and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) protein overexpression by proteogenomics is associated with non-pathological compete response (pCR) (p < 0.05), highlighting potential false positives from standard diagnostics. Pathway analysis in proteogenomics-confirmed HER2+ samples identifies elevated epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and WNT-β-catenin signaling in non-pCR cases before treatment. Twenty-four pCR-associated proteins reproduce in a second proteomic dataset, and four (GPRC5A, TPBG, SP140L, and NEU1) are significant in a third. A meta-analysis of ten diverse neoadjuvant anti-HER2 treatment regimens from four independent studies confirms that non-pCR cases express higher levels of mRNA for G protein-coupled receptor class C group 5 member A (GPRC5A, p = 0.0002) and trophoblast glycoprotein (TPBG, p = 0.00008). Thus, proteogenomic analysis identifies negative biomarkers for pCR and alternative plasma membrane targets for treatment-resistant HER2+ breast cancer.

The Maturity-Onset Diabetes Of The Young (Mody) Calculator Overestimates Mody Probability In Hispanic Youth, Guido Alarcon, Anh Nguyen, Angus Jones, Beverley Shields, Maria J Redondo, Mustafa Tosur
Children’s Nutrition Research Center Staff Publications
Context: The applicability of the maturity-onset diabetes of the young (MODY) risk calculator to non-White European populations remains unknown.
Objective: We aimed to test its real-world application in Hispanic youth.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective chart review of Hispanic youth (< 23 years) with diabetes (n = 2033) in a large pediatric tertiary care center in the United States. We calculated MODY probability for all subjects, splitting them into 2 cohorts based on the original model: individuals who were started on insulin within 6 months of diabetes diagnosis (Cohort 1) and those who were not (Cohort 2).
Results: Cohort 1 consisted of 1566 individuals (median age [25p, 75p]: 16 [13, 19] years, 49% female), while Cohort 2 comprised 467 youth (median age [25p, 75p]: 17 [15, 20] years, 62% female). The mean MODY probability was 5.9% and 61.9% in Cohort 1 and Cohort 2, respectively. The mean probability for both cohorts combined was 18.8%, suggesting an …

Viewing The Globe From A Mountain Top: Between The Perspectives Of Al-Bīrūnī, Schmitt And Sloterdijk, John T. Giordano
Budhi: A Journal of Ideas and Culture
In this article, I wish to examine the manner we imagine our place in the cosmos by contrasting it with earlier techniques for mapping and measuring the globe. I will pay particular attention to the work of Abū Rayḥān Al-Bīrūnī and demonstrate that the assumptions which allowed for his advances in the measurement of the globe were based upon a certain understanding of the relationship of place within the sacred order of the cosmos and the role of reason in this connection. This understanding carries over to his anthropological works which consider the history of other religions and cultures. It …

The Clayton Act Cipher: Text As An Antitrust Strategy, Samuel Evan Milner
The Clayton Act Cipher: Text As An Antitrust Strategy, Samuel Evan Milner
Florida Law Review
As federal antitrust enforcement has adopted its most aggressive stance in decades, the fate of billions of dollars’ worth of economic activity rests on a few short statutory phrases enacted generations ago. The government officials who have proposed expanding antitrust enforcement have not justified their efforts through the difficult work of parsing the original meaning of these statutory texts. Nor have the targets of their scrutiny shielded themselves by asserting that statutory meaning. Instead, antitrust regulation and litigation have assumed that the text of these laws does not provide as clear or relevant a standard as do precedent, policy, and …
Transunion, Vermont Agency, And Statutory Damages Under Article Iii, Randy Beck
Transunion, Vermont Agency, And Statutory Damages Under Article Iii, Randy Beck
Florida Law Review
The Supreme Court concluded in TransUnion LLC v. Ramirez that a plaintiff may not sue to collect statutory damages under a statute such as the Fair Credit Reporting Act simply because the defendant violated a right Congress conferred on the plaintiff. Article III instead requires the plaintiff to show that the statutory violation resulted in a “concrete” injury with “a ‘close relationship’ to a harm ‘traditionally’ recognized as providing a basis for a lawsuit in American courts.” Under the majority’s reading of Article III, “an injury in law is not an injury in fact.”
The TransUnion Court made no effort …
Artificial Intelligence And Privacy, Daniel J. Solove
Artificial Intelligence And Privacy, Daniel J. Solove
Florida Law Review
This Article aims to establish a foundational understanding of the intersection between artificial intelligence (AI) and privacy, outlining the current problems AI poses to privacy and suggesting potential directions for the law’s evolution in this area. Thus far, few commentators have explored the overall landscape of how AI and privacy interrelate. This Article seeks to map that territory.
Some commentators question whether privacy law is appropriate for addressing AI. In this Article, I contend that although existing privacy law falls far short of resolving the privacy problems with AI, privacy law properly conceptualized and constituted would go a long way …
Examining The Impact Of Stress On Collegiate Flight Students, Shivanee D. Cannon-Patron
Examining The Impact Of Stress On Collegiate Flight Students, Shivanee D. Cannon-Patron
Beyond: Undergraduate Research Journal
Stress may negatively affect the timely completion of a student pilot's flight training. A student pilot influenced by stress may be subject to what is known as "falling behind the aircraft," a condition that constantly requires minor interventions from their flight instructor. This lack of situational awareness and decreased performance may inadvertently cause the student pilot to repeat the flight lesson, increasing the time spent in the training course.

Border Crisis Impacts On United States National Security, Victoria Halyne Smith
Masters Theses
This thesis addresses how the United States (U.S.) currently faces various homeland and national security threats. A specific and substantial threat to the U.S. is the border crisis that began to escalate in later 2020 but has been an ongoing issue for decades. Several elements encompass the border crisis such as the political circumstances, policy passed by Congress and endorsed or drafted by the President, resources at borders, and law enforcement or security implementation. However, two vital elements to analyze within the current border crisis are the border security and immigration policies of the Trump and Biden administrations as well …

Mental Health Literacy In Middle School Classrooms: Be Resilient, Yolanda Michelle Travis
Masters Theses
When I first encountered the question, “Why is this important to me?” in our defense preparation assignment instructions, I felt overwhelmed. How could I answer such a loaded question? Here is my inspiration.
I have been clinically diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder. My younger brother, who passed away in 2019, was the first person in California to die from a fentanyl overdose. He suffered from childhood trauma that severely impacted his mental health as an adult, and he was only 36 years old at the time of his death. Additionally, my mother struggles with panic attacks and depression, and my …
Authenticity In Historical Fiction, Reaghan Sara-Anne Avery
Authenticity In Historical Fiction, Reaghan Sara-Anne Avery
Masters Theses
Authenticity is often debated in the field of literature. It’s an element that attests to an author’s credibility and a work’s originality, specifically the measure of an author’s genuine intent and the historical veracity of the work, including the genre of historical fiction. Authenticity can be defined in twofold terminology: those being the idealism and the factual, historically based evidence of the piece. Assessing a work’s authenticity by analyzing its believability and relatability is a three-part process that includes looking at the realistic dialogue, sensory and detailed language, and historical elements in a given text. The partial novel below entitled, …

Expanding A Standardized Reading Program Utilizing Research-Based Literacy Practices, Culturally Responsive Teaching, And Teacher Decision Making, Jacalyn Marie Gizara
Theses and Dissertations
The reading achievement disparities between diverse learners and their advantaged peers has been at the forefront of education for decades (Hammond, 2015; Kelley et al., 2015; Ladson-Billings, 2006; Paschall et al., 2017; Pitre, 2014). Educational policies have attempted to close the achievement gap and address the inequitable practices school systems place on our youth (Paschall et al, 2017; Pitre, 2014). However, teachers can lead in the profession and create positive change for students’ school experiences and learning outcomes. The purpose of this action research study was to enhance the prepackaged reading program with thematic units, culturally responsive teaching, and research-based …
A Missionary's Memoirs: Mongolia Revisited, Isaac Smith
A Missionary's Memoirs: Mongolia Revisited, Isaac Smith
Undergraduate Honors Theses
This is my story. It is a very personal story, but one that I want to share with others. Although it takes place predominantly in Mongolia, it is not merely a story about Mongolia, or even the Mongolian people. It is not really even a story about me. What is it then? It is a story about faith and love. It is an attempt to better understand how the gospel of Jesus Christ intricately fits into people’s lives all over the world—even in Mongolia. It is a compilation of essays, of memoirs, of my experiences. It is a story about …
Planches, Cases, Bulles Entre Les Langues : Représentations Des Langues Dans Le Roman Graphique « Le Piano Oriental » De Zeina Abirached, Chiara Denti
Al-Kīmiyā
Published in France by Casterman in 2015, Le piano oriental is the fifth graphic novel by French Lebanese comic artist Zeina Abirached. Like her previous graphic works, this book is part of the autobiographical comics movement, although it takes a slightly different perspective. The author is no longer dealing with the facts of collective history, recounting the Beirut of her childhood ravaged by civil war, but she explores her linguistic biography, reflecting on her bilingualism and her dual heritage. Combining images and words, Le piano oriental retraces the author’s linguistic journey and the experience of a mother tongue that is …

S’Approprier L’Objet De Son Transfert Ou Quand Un Poète Traduit Un Poète : Baudelaire Par Giorgio Caproni, Gianluca Leoncini
Al-Kīmiyā
Without being iconoclastic, Giorgio Caproni, a poet who translates the reverse journey of another poet, appropriates the object of his transfer as much as he reports on it. In the rewriting of this pre-set universe recalling elsewhere outside history, the individual who wishes to appease his troubles may seek to forget, through the use of the almost hypnotic power of the reflections of meridian lights, marine sounds and delectable smells, that Evil is everywhere and that the human being participates in its cruelty and absurdity.

Le Discours Éducatif « Expert » Dans L’Enseignement Supérieur À L’Épreuve Du Néolibéralisme, Youssef Aboudi
Al-Kīmiyā
This article aims to examine the main linguistic mechanisms employed by the “expert” educational discourse in higher education to reinforce its legitimacy and authority. The central hypothesis of this study posits that the “expert” educational discourse uses pseudo-technical/scientific rhetorical strategies to create an illusion of rationality and performance, with the aim of neutralizing critical and reflective thinking (Denault, 2016; Gobin, 2011). Theoretically, the study adopts a critical multidisciplinary approach that integrates socio-pragmatics, linguistic anthropology, political philosophy, and critical sociology of organizations. Methodologically, the study is based on a “hermeneutic” approach (Charaudeau, 2018) that seeks to explore the various discursive mechanisms …

Les Interactions Didactiques : Cadrage Épistémologique, Abdeladim Erradi
Al-Kīmiyā
In an educational context, communication can be thought of as “didactic interactions”. This type of interaction is undertaken and constructed jointly. They are complex systems on the modal and semiotic levels. They are observed in situ using tools and techniques to detect, transcribe, and analyze them to understand the communicative and didactic issues and interpret them. This article presents an overview of sociolinguistic currents that study didactic interactions in linguistic, sociolinguistic, and pragmatic dimensions. These currents could serve as models of analysis in the field of sociodidactics.

Comparative Impact Of Thiazides Vs. Dihydropyridines On Heart Failure Risk In Hypertensive Patients: A Systematic Review And Meta-Analysis Of Randomized Controlled Trials, Safaa M. Alsanosi, Yosra Z. Alhindi
Saudi Toxicology Journal
Background: Uncontrolled hypertension (HTN) is a progressive condition that significantly elevates the risk of heart failure (HF). The selection of antihypertensive agents plays a critical role in modulating HF risk. Thiazide diuretics and dihydropyridine calcium channel blockers (DHPs) are frequently utilized in clinical practice, yet their comparative long-term cardiovascular outcomes, particularly regarding HF incidence, remain underexplored. Methods: A systematic literature review was undertaken, drawing four key databases—MEDLINE, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Cochrane—covering the period from 1994 to October 2024. The scope was limited to randomized controlled trials (RCTs) evaluating thiazides or DHPs, with a minimum of 100 participants diagnosed …

Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) affects millions yearly potentially altering the emotional, behavioural and physical characteristics of the person. Consequently, it can result in the person before the ABI being markedly different from the person after. Family members of individuals with ABI often report feeling grief but there is limited support to help them. This study aimed to pilot a four-week grief writing intervention based on the continuing bonds intervention ‘Hello Again’, for family members after ABI. The purpose was to determine the experience of writing the letters and the perceived benefit. Recruitment was through volunteer sampling, and three participants took …
Women And Puritanism: Establishing A Theological And Philosophical Framework For Women's Legal Rights In Seventeenth-Century New England, Karen A. Jones
Women And Puritanism: Establishing A Theological And Philosophical Framework For Women's Legal Rights In Seventeenth-Century New England, Karen A. Jones
Masters Theses
Using the framework of the modified germ theory, this thesis seeks to discover how the intersection of theology, philosophy, and law reveal the rationale behind the state of women’s legal rights in seventeenth century Puritan New England. The study mostly focuses on 1630-1690, since these sixty years represent the limit of Puritan hegemony in New England. During the 1690s, the Crown forced the northeastern colonies to conform to common law and subsequently expunge their laws of any hints of Puritan biblicism. The conclusion will address the ramifications of this change. The main body of this work, however, takes up Marylynn …
Quality Improvement Project: Perioperative Recruitment Process Improvement Through Nursing Student Clinical Experience, Traci Boren
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
Perioperative nursing is experiencing greater shortages than any other specialty and has been largely removed from undergraduate education. This DNP quality improvement project aimed to impact the recruitment of perioperative nurses through undergraduate nursing clinical exposure and experience. The project addressed the lack of clinical nursing student opportunities in the perioperative department at the partner site to increase interest in perioperative nursing and recruit core staff nurses from the pool of new graduates. Kotter’s Eight-Step Change Model and the Social Career Cognitive Theory framed the project’s design and implementation for two cycles, between January and March 2024 and 2025. Using …

Implementing An Antibiotic Stewardship Program For Acute Respiratory Tract Infections In Urgent Care, John Childree
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
Antibiotic overprescription for acute respiratory tract infections (ARTIs) remains a persistent challenge in urgent care, contributing to antimicrobial resistance and increased healthcare costs. This quality improvement project evaluated whether a structured educational intervention an Antibiotic Stewardship Program (ASP) could improve providers’ knowledge and self-efficacy in evidence-based prescribing. A quasi-experimental, single-group pre-post design was used with seven urgent care clinicians. Data were collected through a custom Antibiotic Stewardship Questionnaire and a Self-Efficacy Survey administered before and after the intervention. Results demonstrated a 17% increase in knowledge scores (from 9.3 to 10.6 out of 11) and a statistically significant improvement in self-efficacy …

Quality Improvement Project Education And Implementation Of I-Pass Handoff Between Critical Care Clinicians And Anesthesia Staff, Kimberly Woody
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
Medical errors, specifically communication errors, cause adverse patient outcomes, death, and an estimated annual cost to institutions of over two million dollars. Despite numerous studies highlighting the need for standardized communication during patient transfers and recommendations from regulatory bodies such as the Joint Commission, the gaps in standardized handoffs remain. The Doctor of Nursing Practice's (DNP's) quality improvement project aimed to increase knowledge of the intensive care unit (ICU) and anesthesia clinicians through interprofessional education (IPE) about the illness severity, patient summary, action plan, situational awareness/contingency plan, synthesis by receiver (I-PASS) handoff tool to promote consistent, complete tool use during …

Housing Refugees Amid Administrative Change: Local Agency Innovation, Christine Kramer
Public Administration Theses, Dissertations, and Student Creative Activity
Ongoing affordable housing and housing supply challenges in the US are presenting significant challenges for refugees. According to the US Census Bureau, the average monthly cost of rent plus the cost of utilities and fuels adjusted for inflation grew faster annually (3.8%) than real median home values (1.8%) in 2023 for the first time in 10 years. This is the largest annual increase in rental costs since 2011 (US Census Bureau, 2024). Homelessness has also increased by 18% since 2023 (USDHUD, 2024, pg. 3). Even in this current reality, the federal policies for housing refugees haven’t changed in over a …
