Illuminating Two Secondary Schoolteachers’ Praxes On A ‘Terrain Of Freedom:’ Lessons For Teacher Education, Paul Tarc, Nicholas Ng-A-Fook, Tasha Ausman, Catherine James

Northwest Journal of Teacher Education

This paper attunes to the stated focus of this special issue—teacher subjectivities on a terrain of freedom—to consider the qualities, possibilities and limits of teachers’ praxes and development upon this ‘terrain.’ In response to the call, we explore three critical questions: 1) Where does the teacher’s freedom lie amidst required protocols and standardization?; 2) Can teachers transcend how they have been conceived and conditioned?; and 3) How can teachers engage in transformative development? Through a "poetics of teaching," inspired by Hansen (2004), we frame teaching as a curricular and pedagogical art form that melds interdisciplinary, intellectual, aesthetic, and …

Deciphering A Quantitative Relationship Between Rifting And Crustal Melt Fraction: Insights From The Incipient Okavango Rift Zone, Tuo Wang, Ling Chen, Stephen S. Gao, Kelly H. Liu

Geosciences and Geological and Petroleum Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

Rifting and magmatism are fundamental geological processes in the evolution of the lithosphere; however, quantitative investigations of their relationship are rare. The Okavango Rift Zone (ORZ) is in the early stages of rifting and magmatic activity and thus is an ideal locale to study this relationship. We examine the relationship using two primary crustal structure parameters: crustal thickness and average Vp/Vs ratio obtained from receiver functions. Our large Vp/Vs estimates indicate the existence of melts within the crust of the ORZ. Comparing our results with those of other continental rifts, we identify a quantitative relationship between rifting and crustal melt …

A Promising Statistical Approach For Studying The Collisional Excitation Induced By Co: Application To The Cs-Co System, Amélie Godard Palluet, Richard Dawes, Ernesto Quintas-Sánchez, Adrian Batista-Planas, François Lique

Chemistry Faculty Research & Creative Works

The calculations of rate coefficients for the interpretation of molecular spectra are a recognized computationally expensive task. This is particularly true for media like comets, where the dominant species (CO, CO2, and H2O) have relatively high masses. Currently, no clear methodology exists to treat the collisional excitation of heavy species at low temperatures, thus limiting the number of collisional studies on such species. We present here a promising statistical approach to determine collisional rate coefficients of heavy systems as an alternative to fully quantum calculations when heavy projectiles such as CO are considered. This is illustrated …

K3) Religious Tourism In A Key Textual Perspective: Spiritual Authenticity And Cultural Heritage, Ninfa Pagano, Walter Spezzano Aulet Serrallonga

International Religious Tourism and Pilgrimage Conferences

Over the last few decades religious tourism has emerged as a growing, relevant sector in international tourism industry. It is estimated that approximately 300 million visitors per year go on pilgrimages and the global number continually increases (Syngh & Bhuyan, 2024).

The purpose of the present study is twofold: first, as major pilgrimage destinations strategically employ tourism discourse (Dann, 1996; Maci, 2020), this paper critically examines English tourism discourse as used on the official website Jubilee 2025. Second, it investigates how religious tourism itineraries, promoted on the website, are discursively framed to engage international visitors (Wodak & Meyer, 2015). Indeed, …

The COVID-19 pandemic is one of its kinds of public health emergencies that the world is grappling with. The health-care workers (HCWs) were at the forefront of the battle against this scourge. As a result of continuous service delivery, they experienced stress and burnout which varied from the type of HCWs, gender, type of service, and the length of service rendered by them. Given the context, this systematic review assessed the prevalence and predictors of stress among different types of HCWs in India. The systematic review was conducted using PubMed search engine and 13 articles were selected for the purpose …

Exploring Factors That Affect Learning Process Of High Achievers And Low Achievers And The Role Of Medical Teachers, Saurabh Rambiharilal Shrivastava, Prateek Saurabh Shrivastava

Indian Journal of Health Sciences and Biomedical Research KLEU

The syllabus in the medical curriculum is extremely vast, and in order to attain the intended learning competencies, students have to take intensive efforts to continue or expedite the learning process. Learning in itself is a complex process, as a number of factors play their part to ensure that a medical student can understand and apply the concepts or even perform the skills/procedures. In general, factors affecting the learning process have been broadly categorized into intrinsic (viz. Learning style) and extrinsic (such as learning environment and support from teachers). It becomes extremely crucial that teachers should be aware of these …

Focal Hematopoietic Hyperplasia Of The Rib, A Rare Form Of Pseudotumor Report Of A Case With Review Of Literature, Kavita Mardi, Pooja Murugai, Meena Bhardwaj

Indian Journal of Health Sciences and Biomedical Research KLEU

Focal hematopoietic hyperplasia is a rare and localized proliferation of the bone marrow to such a degree that it produces a tumor-like expansion and hence called a pseudotumor. It is a rare benign condition and only 11 cases of focal hematopoietic hyperplasia have been reported in the English literature so far. We report one such rare case of focal hematopoietic hyperplasia in the rib of a 53-year-old female and reviewed the relevant literature. Our patient presented with backache and palpable swelling in the rib. Radiologically, they all manifested as an expansive and radiolucent lesion and contained ill-defined areas of increased …

An Unusual Case Of Phytobezoar Causing Gastric Outlet Obstruction, Aditi Shivcharan Agrawal, Tuhina Mishra

Indian Journal of Health Sciences and Biomedical Research KLEU

A bezoar is defined as the accumulation of certain indigestible or poorly digestible substances in the gastrointestinal tract in the form of a mass, and when the bezoars consist of fruits and vegetables fibers, they are labeled as “phytobezoar.” Bezoars in the stomach are a rare condition and are often associated with episodes of gastric dysmotility and prior gastric surgery, though sometimes they can present without any significant history. Phytobezoars are difficult to diagnose due to its overlapping signs and episodic nature. however, in medical literature, the information about phytobezoars is insufficient due to the limited amount of documented cases, …
