Who Pays For Cheap Speech? How Economic Shifts In The News Industry Shape Defamation Law, Michaela Paquette Sep 2025

Who Pays For Cheap Speech? How Economic Shifts In The News Industry Shape Defamation Law, Michaela Paquette

The Business, Entrepreneurship & Tax Law Review

This article examines how the internet and the rise of “cheap speech” have transformed the media industry, disrupted traditional economic incentives for responsible journalism, and exposed the limitations of current defamation law. It argues that the New York Times v. Sullivan “actual malice” standard, while appropriate for the professionalized and objective media environment of the mid-20th century, no longer sufficiently supports robust public discourse in the digital age. This article proposes incorporating journalistic standards into defamation analysis as an evidentiary tool to better distinguish between mere negligence and actual malice while preserving core First Amendment considerations. By realigning legal incentives …

Division of Infectious Diseases and Environmental Medicine Faculty Papers

Musculoskeletal infections represent a significant proportion of the clinical workload for infectious diseases (ID) providers, often presenting complex diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. Many providers may feel inadequately prepared to manage these conditions, which require a nuanced understanding of microbiology, musculoskeletal anatomy, surgical intervention, and orthopedic hardware. We implemented a pair of educational interventions including an online library of high-yield musculoskeletal ID literature and an educational podcast. © The Author(s) 2025. Lived Experiences Of Transgender And Non-Conforming Individuals Related To Gender Separation Bathroom Policies, Patricia Ojea Sep 2025

Lived Experiences Of Transgender And Non-Conforming Individuals Related To Gender Separation Bathroom Policies, Patricia Ojea

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The transgender and gender non-conforming population experiences discrimination when using public restrooms, but scholarly researchers do not know how the varying degrees of acceptance or rejection impact their daily lives. The purpose of this qualitative study was to better understand the lived experiences of transgender and non-conforming (TGNC) adults to determine if bathroom legislation helps alleviate adversity experienced by this group. Kingdon's multiple-streams framework and Meyer's minority stress theory were the theoretical frameworks that served as this study's foundation. The research questions for this study focused on how the lack of enabling restroom policies in New Jersey impacts TGNC adults …

Network Meta-Analysis Of Randomized Controlled Trials Comparing Safety And Efficacy Of Pharmacological Treatments In Reducing Pain During Intrauterine Device Insertion, Ahmed Ashour, Ahmed H. Saad, Iman Elzahaby

Sultan Qaboos University Medical Journal

Conflicting evidence exists regarding the effectiveness of pharmacological interventions in reducing pain during intrauterine device (IUD) insertion. This study aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of various analgesics and to rank their effectiveness. A total of 71 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) involving 10,870 women were included. Data were sourced from PubMed, Cochrane Library, Scopus, and other databases up to September 2023. Analyses were performed using the Netmeta package in R, with results reported as standardized mean differences (SMDs) and risk ratios (RRs), each with corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Lidocaine 4% gel (5 mL) emerged as the most effective …
