On Amicable Numbers, Jonathan David Evans
On Amicable Numbers, Jonathan David Evans
Euleriana
This is an English translation of Euler's 1750 paper "De numeris amicabilibus" (E152), the most substantial of his three works with this name. In it, he expounds at great length the ad hoc methods he has developed to search for pairs of amicable numbers, concluding with a list of around 60 new pairs.

Adverse And Positive Childhood Experiences Affect General Health In Asian American Emerging Adults, Wenyi Chen, Chakra Budhathoki, Maichou Lor, Deborah Gross
International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)
Background: Positive childhood experiences (PCEs) are safe, stable, and nurturing relationships and environments in childhood.1 Both PCEs and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are common and can co-occur. Empirical studies have shown that PCEs not only buffer the negative effects of ACEs,2, 3, 4 but also positively impact physical and mental health outcomes independent of ACEs.5, 6, 7, 8 However, few studies have simultaneously examined the influence of ACEs and PCEs in Asian American populations. This study examined the association between ACEs and general health and assessed whether PCEs moderated this association among Asian American emerging adults from diverse backgrounds. …

Mapping Key Components Of Substance Use Disorder Stigma Awareness Education: A Scoping Review, Marianne Adam, Erin Kitt-Lewis, Kat Phillips
International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)
The substance use epidemic is the latest wave in a series of global substance use related public health crises (Mania et al., 2021; Jemberie et al., 2020). A fundamental cause of health inequities, stigma impacts the development of substance use disorder (SUD), undermines treatment efforts, and drives disparities within these crises (Earnshaw, 2020; Nyblade et al., 2019; Carrara et al., 2021). Stigma awareness education is an essential component to prepare nurses and healthcare providers who care for people with SUD. However, the types and quality of stigma awareness educational programs is not well documented in the literature. The purpose of …

Journal of Organizational & Educational Leadership
Character education has been a point of focus and research in K-12 education dating back to the 1990s. The work of integrating a character-forward framework in higher education is now considered a beneficial and impactful practice. One university has successfully completed the initial work of integrating a servant leadership framework in the School of Education using an approach in line with the community of practice model. The authors of this paper work together and have each played a key role in not only the early stages but the ongoing phases associated with maintaining and improving. This theory-to-practice article begins with …
A System For Disambiguating Code-Switched Speech Using Visual Context, Mithun Kumar S R
A System For Disambiguating Code-Switched Speech Using Visual Context, Mithun Kumar S R
Defensive Publications Series
Natural Language Understanding systems can encounter challenges when resolving lexical ambiguity in code-switched speech, particularly with inter-language homonyms that may be phonetically similar or identical but have different meanings. These challenges can be compounded by a reliance on audio-only input, which may not capture environmental context that can be beneficial for disambiguation. The disclosed method addresses this by concurrently processing an audio stream containing a user's utterance and a video stream capturing the user's visual context. The system can be configured to identify potential homonyms in the transcribed speech and to extract semantic tags, such as for objects or scenes, …

Systems And Methods For Translating Mixed-Language Audio, Mithun Kumar S R
Defensive Publications Series
Some real-time speech translation systems are architected for monolingual input and can encounter challenges, such as transcription errors or increased latency, when processing code-switched speech. The disclosed method describes a system for real-time interpretation that can ingest a raw audio stream and utilize a dual-axis model to concurrently identify both a spoken word and its language of origin. This process can produce a token stream with associated language identifiers. A subsequent syntactic bridge module can analyze this mixed-language stream to generate a language-independent grammatical representation of the utterance's semantic content. This abstract structure may then be used to synthesize a …

Progress Towards Confinement Of An Ultracold Neutral Plasma With Electric And Magnetic Fields, Ben Farley
Progress Towards Confinement Of An Ultracold Neutral Plasma With Electric And Magnetic Fields, Ben Farley
Theses and Dissertations
Ultracold neutral plasmas represent a regime of plasmas that is not entirely described by theory, but is critical to our understanding of many phenomena. Though their low temperature makes observing them more manageable, even "confined" ultracold plasmas do not remain contained for more than a few hundred microseconds. No steady state or long-term confinement of an ultracold plasma created by pulse ionization has ever been demonstrated. In this thesis, the construction of a Penning trap for calcium ultracold neutral plasma is presented. The trap consists of a uniform magnetic field to trap the electrons radially and a quadrupole electric field …

As enterprises increasingly aim to incorporate artificial intelligence into their workflows to tackle complex, multimodal tasks, the demand for intelligent, robust, and trustworthy systems is paramount. While multimodal large language models offer initial capabilities for processing diverse data streams, their dependence on embedding-based representations limit their effectiveness in delivering semantically grounded explanations and reasoning, as well as qualities essential for enterprise-grade applications. Neurosymbolic approaches provide a promising alternative by enabling traceable, context-aware decision making. However, constructing enterprise-level multimodal knowledge graphs (MMKGs) that enable neurosymbolic approaches remains largely impractical. Although prior efforts have explored MMKG construction, they fall short in addressing …

Evidence links air pollution to dementia, yet its role in Lewy body dementia (LBD) remains unclear. Here we showed in a cohort of 56.5 million individuals across the U.S. that PM2.5 exposure raises LBD risk. Mechanistically, we found PM2.5 exposure led to brain atrophy in wild-type mice, an effect not seen in α-synuclein (αSyn)-deficient mice. PM2.5 exposure generated a highly pathogenic αSyn strain, PM-PFF, with enhanced proteinase K-resistance and neurotoxicity, resembling αSyn LBD strains. PM2.5 samples from China, the U.S., and Europe consistently induced proteinase-resistant αSyn strains and in vivo pathology. Transcriptomic analyses revealed shared responses between PM2.5-exposed mice and …

HPV integration disrupts host genomic structure and expression, but whether these alterations promote cancer development remains unclear. Multiple genomic analyses of oropharyngeal cancers identified several host fusion genes, including recurrent FGFR3-TACC3 fusions, expressed from rearranged genomic loci adjacent to HPV integration sites. Evolutionary modeling implicated integration of virus concatemers into the host genome as a common initiating event in fusion formation. Co-expression of HPV16 E6/E7 and FGFR3-TACC3, but neither alone, was sufficient for tumor development in both xenograft and syngeneic mouse models and led to unique transcriptional programs implicated in carcinogenesis. FGFR3-TACC3 expression decreased the ubiquitination and degradation of …

An Investigation Of Sex-Specific Effects Of Nucleus Accumbens Dopamine Receptor Signaling In Persistent Reward Seeking Under Punishment, Anna Caroline Toburen
An Investigation Of Sex-Specific Effects Of Nucleus Accumbens Dopamine Receptor Signaling In Persistent Reward Seeking Under Punishment, Anna Caroline Toburen
Theses and Dissertations
Addiction involves persistent reward-seeking behavior despite adverse outcomes, with the nucleus accumbens (NAc) critically mediating motivation and cost-benefit decision-making. Dopamine (DA)-responsive neurons in the NAc, specifically D1 and D2 receptors within the NAc are crucial in encoding motivated behavior. However, the specific role of D1/D2 receptors in driving reward-seeking under punishment remains unclear. Preliminary findings suggest a sex-specific effect, with females exhibiting greater sensitivity to the suppressive effects of footshock on natural reward-seeking compared to males. We investigated the differential roles of NAc D1/D2 receptors in modulating reward-seeking behavior under punishment, with a focus on potential sex-specific effects. Using a …
