This research investigates the development of a novel p-n-p-n homostructure solar cell, through semiconductor simulations using the Nextnano software. InGaN was used as a model system in order to achieve a bandgap with optimized efficiency for a p-n homojunction solar cell. By increasing the uniform doping concentration from 1.5*10(16) cm(-3) to 1.5*10(17) cm(-3), the open circuit voltage (V-oc) increased while the short-circuit current density (J(sc)) decreased, as expected in simple p-n junctions. The p-n-p-n structure achieved a peak efficiency of 32.91% at a doping level of 6.5*10(16) cm(-3), a similar to 7% improvement over a conventional p-n junction's 25.31% efficiency …

Introduction
Middle meningeal artery embolization (MMAE) has emerged as a promising new treatment for patients with chronic subdural hematomas (cSDH). Its efficacy, however, upon the subtype with a high rate of recurrence—septated cSDH—remains undetermined.
Methods
From our prospective registry of patients with cSDH treated with MMAE, we classified patients based on the presence or absence of septations. The primary outcome was the rate of recurrence of cSDH. Secondary outcomes included a reduction in cSDH thickness, midline shift, and rate of reoperation.
Results
Among 80 patients with 99 cSDHs, the median age was 68 years (IQR 59–77) with 20% females. Twenty-eight …

The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices recommends human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination for inadequately vaccinated adults aged 27–45 based on shared clinical decision-making (SCDM). However, little is known about awareness and barriers to SCDM among US healthcare providers (HCPs), especially in Texas, where HPV vaccination rates are below the national average. Between January and April 2021, we conducted a population-based cross-sectional survey (12% response rate) of HCPs licensed in Texas to assess the prevalence and factors associated with awareness of the SCDM recommendation. HCPs were asked if they were aware and if they foresaw any barriers in implementing SCDM for HPV …

Prediabetes is one of the main health concerns in public health, and various etiological factors contribute to its onset. This study aimed to evaluate genetic associations and gene‐macronutrient interaction with prediabetes‐related metabolites to understand how genetic variation and dietary intake contribute to dysglycemia. We analyzed a total of 482 self‐identified Mexican American participants recruited from Starr County, Texas in 2018‐2019. Untargeted metabolomic profiling was performed using LC‐MS. Nutrient densities of six macronutrients were derived from a 106‐item food frequency questionnaire. Genetic associations for each metabolite were tested using Generalized linear Mixed Model Association Tests (GMMAT). Gene‐macronutrient interactions on prediabetes‐associated metabolites …

Background: We sought to assess the extent to which folic acid supplementation and dietary folate intake are associated with preterm delivery among infants with spina bifida.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective population-based study using the National Birth Defects Prevention Study (NBDPS; 1999-2011) and the Birth Defects Study To Evaluate Pregnancy exposureS (BD-STEPS; 2014-2019). We utilized robust Poisson regression to calculate the risk ratio (RR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) for the associations between preterm birth (< 37 weeks) and maternal use of folic acid-containing supplements, dietary folate intake quartile, and a combined variable accounting for supplementation and dietary folate status.
Results: Among 1199 infants with spina bifida (1011 in NBDPS, 188 in BD-STEPS), 217 (18.1%) were born preterm. There were no statistically significant associations …

Ai: It's Not Going Away! Harnessing Ai To Enhance Learning In Nursing Education, D'Ann Wilson Somerall, Chris Hickman, William E. Somerall Jr.
Biennial Convention (CONV)
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has transformed learning, but to what extent? Is AI preventing students from using their creativity and knowledge? Is AI negating the development of scholarly writing skills? Do students understand the academic use of AI and the possibility of generating inaccurate information they may share with others, thinking it “came from the internet,” so it must be correct?
ChatGPT, an AI tool used extensively by college students, was released in November 2022. Multiple other programs have been released in the past two years, and more tools are launched daily. Sadly, many academicians have not embraced AI or developed …
From Discrete Manufacturing To Continuous Manufacturing: Examining The Relationship Among Digital Capability, Organizational Learning, And Enterprise Performance, Demu Chen
Dissertations and Theses Collection (Open Access)
In 2018, Company J launched its intelligent drive digital transformation project, which was completed and entered operation in 2021. That December, the project obtained certification under Zhejiang Province's "1353" system for the future factory enterprises, marking a successful transition from discrete to continuous manufacturing. To address the asynchronous flows of logistics, information, personnel, capital, and value indiscrete manufacturing enterprises, as well as pain points such as lowper capita output, long product delivery cycles, and low annual inventory turnover rates, this study, based on organizational learning theory, constructs ananalytical model encompassing digital capability (independent variable X), organizational learning (mediating variable Z), …
A Mixed Methods Study Of The Weather And Climate Science Curriculum Pilot In South Carolina K-12 Schools, 4-H, And Agricultural Education Programs, Emily B. Hood
All Dissertations
Weather and climate science topics in K-12 education are more important now than ever due to extreme weather and climate events happening worldwide. Most U.S. science teachers included climate science in their courses, but they may not have a sufficient background in the topic which can hinder their efforts, or there is no explicit curriculum for the teacher to utilize. Research indicates that there is a need for innovation in the curriculum to help prepare children to become the next generation of leaders and address complex problems, such as issues related to weather and climate science. There are a few …

School Discipline Bylaws In Egypt: An Analysis Of The Framing Of Children’S Rights In Education (2014–2024), Noha Ekram Hassan
All Dissertations
This study investigates how Egypt’s School Discipline Bylaws (SDB), issued between 2014 and 2024, construct the language of discipline, children’s rights, and school governance. Using a Corpus-Assisted Critical Discourse Analysis (CADA) combined with interpretive Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), the research identifies child-rights terminology within the five Bylaw versions, examines its relationship to the principles of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), and traces how these linguistic patterns change over time. The analysis also explores the discursive framing of discipline, sanctions, and agency, alongside a rubric-based evaluation of the SDB’s alignment with CRC principles of protection, participation, and …

Math For The Real World: Implementing A Standards-Based Math Curriculum With A Focus On Formative Assessment, Rachael Smilowitz
All Dissertations
This study investigated the relationship between the Ongoing Assessment Project (OGAP) professional development and the fidelity of implementation of the Illustrative Math Middle School curriculum in Roseland County School District. The district adopted Illustrative Math in 2016; however, many teachers either implemented it inconsistently or used only select components. While prior research has demonstrated that OGAP training can improve student outcomes on standardized assessments in large urban districts such as Philadelphia, little is known about its impact on teachers’ use of high-quality curricula such as Illustrative Math.
The study addressed three guiding questions: (1) How does participation in OGAP professional …

ABSTRACT
This qualitative study examines how Black women educators working with scripted curricula exercise autonomy, agency, and advocacy in elementary school contexts. Guided by interpretive phenomenology, the inquiry centers on lived experience and meaning-making. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with ten educators, supplemented by reflexive journaling, member checking, and peer debriefing to enhance the trustworthiness of the findings. Analysis used iterative, thematic methods within a hermeneutic circle.
Two questions shaped the design. What beliefs and perceptions do Black women educators hold about autonomy, agency, and advocacy in scripted classrooms? How do they negotiate professional identity and role within mandates? …
Experiences Of Young Adults With An Intellectual Disability And Their Families As They Transition From High School To A Post-Secondary Education Program, Erica Walters
All Dissertations
PLAIN LANGUAGE ABSTRACT
Young adults with intellectual disabilities (ID) often face challenges when transitioning from high school to adult life. Postsecondary education (PSE) programs have been shown to help these individuals build skills, gain independence, and improve long-term outcomes, such as employment and independent living. However, not all students with ID are aware of or able to access these opportunities. Families, schools, and communities play an important role in helping young adults with ID prepare for and succeed in PSE programs.
This study explored what helps or makes it harder for students with ID and their families to pursue postsecondary …

Student Projects
This study examined barriers faced by older adults in Orange City, Iowa, through a mixed-methods community practice project incorporating assessment, implementation, and evaluation. During the assessment phase, researchers conducted interviews with elderly residents and professionals, gathered observational data, and facilitated community dialogue using the Nominal Group Technique. Key themes included social isolation, transportation challenges, financial strain, limited health literacy, and difficulty transitioning from independence to assisted living. A strong cultural emphasis on independence often discouraged help-seeking, while fragmented agency communication and rural limitations in specialized care further complicated service navigation. Asset mapping and power analysis highlighted community cohesion, faith-based support, …

Jury impartiality in the contemporary court often justifies the perpetuation of exclusionary selection practices that make juries more—not less—biased. This Article calls for a rethinking of this important but flawed concept. Constitutional interpretations and conceptions of “impartiality” frame it as a transient orientation toward particular evidence or parties. Yet, during voir dire, the prevailing conception of jury impartiality is that it is an immutable character trait that must be discovered—if not created—by professional legal actors. What voir dire creates is not an impartial jury, but precisely the opposite: a venire shaped by the strategic biases of lawyers.

Background: Specialized neurocritical care (NCC) improves outcomes in acute brain injury (ABI), but significant variability exists in practices across and hospitals within South Korea's developing national NCC system. This study aims to assess clinical variability among patients with ABI across six tertiary NCC units (NCCUs) in South Korea and evaluate center-specific effects on clinical outcomes.
Methods: A multicenter registry of patients with ABI admitted to NCCUs between April 2023 and April 2024 was analyzed. A descriptive analysis was conducted to evaluate demographic, clinical, and treatment characteristics across centers. Variability across centers was quantified using the average standardized mean difference (SMD) …

The Brown Foundation: Institute of Molecular Medicine
Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is characterized by the presence of amyloid-β plaques, neurofibrillary tangles, and neuroinflammation. Previously, we reported that serum levels of dichlorodiphenyldichloroethylene (DDE), the primary metabolite of the pesticide dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT), were significantly higher in AD patients compared to age-matched controls and that DDT exposure worsened AD pathology in animal models.
Objective: Here, we investigated the effect of DDT on neuroinflammation in primary mouse microglia (PMG) and C57BL/6J mice.
Methods: DDT-induced inflammatory and disease-associated microglial (DAM) gene expression were determined in PMG by qPCR and immunocytochemistry, with and without pretreatment with the sodium channel antagonist tetrodotoxin (TTX). Furthermore, …

BACKGROUND: Preeclampsia (PE) is a complex disorder with significant maternal and fetal risks. The soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1 (sFlt-1) and placental growth factor (PlGF) ratio shows promise as a diagnostic tool, but its adoption in the U.S. remains limited due to the lack of accessible testing platforms, U.S.-based studies, and evidence-based implementation guidelines.
PATIENTS/MATERIALS AND METHODS: We conducted a cohort study to evaluate the sFlt-1/PlGF ratio for predicting PE within two weeks among pregnant individuals ≥18 years, ≥20 weeks gestation. Serum samples were obtained from routine prenatal visits or triage evaluations. sFlt-1/PlGF ratios were measured using Roche Elecsys assays, and …

The American Dental Association and American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry encourage oral health professionals to strongly recommend human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination to prevent HPV-associated oropharyngeal cancer. This study examined oral health professionals' knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding HPV vaccination. We used purposive sampling to recruit participants through state and national oral health societies and social media platforms. Flyers outlining eligibility criteria were distributed, and eligible participants completed an online survey. Primary measures included participants' HPV-related knowledge, attitudes, and practices, and willingness to receive HPV-related training and recommend HPV vaccination to patients, including parents of adolescents. Only responses from dental hygienists …

Purpose: Combining evidence-based interventions (EBIs) is a discrete process from adapting EBIs, and specific guidance for how to combine EBIs could be helpful amidst the proliferation of frameworks that combine and stage EBIs and calls for services to be combined or bundled. To address this gap, we developed and applied the COllaborative Method for Building INterventions from Existing Evidence-Based Interventions (COMBINE-EBIs) approach, a five-step process for combining EBIs.
Methods: The five steps of COMBINE-EBIs are: (1) Identify and Select EBIs, (2) Develop a Shared Conceptual Model, (3) Evaluate the Conceptual Model, (4) Create a Single Combined Protocol, and (5) Refine …

We propose a novel machine learning (ML)-based approach to significantly reduce the run times of the optimality-based bound tightening (OBBT) algorithm for strengthening the convex relaxations of the non-convex Alternating Current Optimal Power Flow (AC-OPF) problem. While OBBT can yield near-global solutions via tight convex relaxations, its runtime remains a critical bottleneck on large-scale power grids. Our key contribution is a dynamic policy that selects smaller subsets of voltage magnitude and phase-angle difference variables for sequential bound tightening at every iteration of the OBBT algorithm. This ensures that the bound-tightening process remains adaptive, thereby circumventing the stalling in the optimality …

Early Conceptual Sketches Of Blended Reality And The Precursor To The Bbs Quad (2022), David Smith

This document contains two original hand-drawn conceptual sketches created in early 2022, representing the earliest visual formulations of what would later evolve into the Balanced Blended Space (BBS) framework. The drawings predate my first conversations with ChatGPT and were produced as part of my independent sabbatical research into blended environments, mediated performance, and human–machine interaction.
The first drawing examines human–computational mediation, perception, and internal mapping. The second sketch—later referred to informally as the “BBS Quad”—extends this idea by reconciling cognition–computation symmetry with physical–virtual spatial relationships. Published together, these images document the conceptual foundations of the BBS framework prior to its …
