Pluralism And Critique In A Renewed Environmental Anthropology, Helen Kopnina Dec 2025

Pluralism And Critique In A Renewed Environmental Anthropology, Helen Kopnina

Journal of Ecological Anthropology

Environmental anthropology has evolved from early ethnographic traditions that emphasized the interplay between culture and ecology to a field increasingly influenced by ideological perspectives across the political spectrum. Traditionally, anthropologists examined how human societies adapted to their environments through cultural practices, laying the groundwork for ecological anthropology. However, in recent decades, the field has increasingly been shaped by political and theoretical shifts that prioritize critiques of capitalism, colonialism, and environmental injustice—sometimes at the cost of empirical diversity and democratic debate. There are critiques of the broader trend in academia where intellectual discourse becomes dominated by elite-driven ideological conformity. Critics warn …

Marriage readiness is a critical factor in ensuring long-term relationship satisfaction and resilience. In Indonesia, challenges such as rising cases of domestic violence and marital instability highlight the urgent need for more effective premarital counseling programs. However, existing interventions often lack cultural sensitivity, particularly in multicultural societies like Indonesia, which encompasses over 300 ethnic groups. This study examines the effectiveness of a culturally-informed premarital counseling program based on Banjar marital customs in enhancing marital readiness. A randomized controlled trial (RCT) was conducted with 32 engaged individuals divided into an experimental group receiving Banjar-based counseling and a control group participating in …

Lost In Ambiguity: Ai And The Limits Of Processing Turkish Morphology, Engin Evrim Önem Dec 2025

Lost In Ambiguity: Ai And The Limits Of Processing Turkish Morphology, Engin Evrim Önem

Khazar Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences

Despite rapid progress in natural language processing, artificial intelligence (AI) systems continue to struggle with languages characterized by high morphological complexity, such as Turkish. A central difficulty lies in their limited ability to resolve ambiguity, which is deeply embedded in Turkish through features like flexible word order, extensive case marking, and agglutinative structures. Current AI models, primarily shaped by exposure to massive corpora of performance data, excel at detecting surface-level statistical regularities but fall short of grasping the grammatical principles and semantic nuances that underpin genuine linguistic competence. This reliance on performance over competence makes disambiguation especially problematic, as the …

Factors Influencing University English Instructors’ Use Of Generative Ai In Türkiye: A Utaut2 Perspective, Umut İpekdal, Gonca Subaşı

Khazar Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences

This quantitative study investigates the determinants of English language instructors’ acceptance of generative AI tools at the tertiary level, utilizing the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology 2 (UTAUT2) framework (Venkatesh, Thong & Xu, 2012). Data were collected through a survey of 50 English instructors at a state university in Istanbul, Türkiye, to identify the key factors influencing behavioral intentions and actual use of AI technologies in teaching. The study examined several constructs such as performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, facilitating conditions, hedonic motivation, price value, and habit. The findings indicate that perceived usefulness (performance expectancy), ease …

Artificial Intelligence In Higher Education: A Bibliometric And Science-Mapping Analysis From An Institutional And Management Perspective, Kürşat Taştan, Nalan Sabır Taştan

Khazar Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences

This article maps the field of artificial intelligence in higher education (HEI-AI) from an institutional and management perspective. We draw on 52,270 peer-reviewed articles and reviews indexed in Web of Science and Scopus between 1959 and 2025. Using the bibliometrix package and its biblioshiny interface in R, we combine descriptive indicators with science-mapping techniques, including co-authorship and co-citation networks, keyword co-occurrence, thematic mapping and thematic evolution. The initial corpus of 94,845 records was cleaned by merging the two databases, removing duplicates and restricting the sample to full-length journal articles and reviews that explicitly address AI in higher education.

The results …

It’S Giving Nonfactive Small Clause Selection, David Garsten Dec 2025

It’S Giving Nonfactive Small Clause Selection, David Garsten

Yale Working Papers in Grammatical Diversity

In this paper I examine the syntax and semantics of English nonfactive verbs, bare nominals, and small clauses through the colloquial constructions it’s giving and screams+NP. I aim to explain the formality of nonfactives with DP small clauses in American English, as well as the informality of bare nominals in adjectival positions. First I propose a semantics for two nonfactive heads: vATT and vEVI. I demonstrate that all variation in the selection of English small clause type can be reduced to selection by category, and that these nonfactive heads have lost the ability to c-select for …

Saudi Stock Market Prediction Using Majority Voting, Mobeen W. Alhalabi, Aiiad Albishri

Journal of King Abdulaziz University: Computing and Information Technology Sciences

Predicting the stock market via data analysis is an important research topic. Because the system implementing it seems to think and act like humans, for the last two decades’ machine learning got a lot of attention from developers, programmers, scientists, even from the general public. Due to their advantages, machine learning techniques can be used in many areas, including finance and stock markets. Although many studies were performed with excellent results for the investors, many researchers are still looking for better results that will help minimize risk with higher percentage. In this study, the state of the techniques to predict …

Equity Vignettes: A Practice-Based Resource, Liza Bondurant, Jane Wilburne, Dana Franz

Mathematics teachers have the power and responsibility to center equity in their teaching practices. Yet their framings and mindsets about equity can impact whether and how they use equitable teaching practices. In this manuscript, we describe how secondary mathematics teacher candidates responded to two equity vignettes focused on (1) gender identity and (2) race and tracking. We wrote these vignettes to expose candidates to situations they may encounter and decisions they may need to make as mathematics teachers. The purpose of this study was to explore the teacher candidates’ beliefs. We use the FAIR Framework and the Educator Mindsets for …

Jefferson Hospital Staff Papers and Presentations

Reliable assessment of prognosis after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is essential to inform clinical decision-making and prevent premature assumptions of poor outcome. The enhanced SAH (eSAH) score combines three routinely available variables-age, Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS), and subarachnoid hemorrhage blood volume (SAHV)-to provide an objective framework for early outcome stratification. SAHV is estimated using the ABC/2-derived ellipsoid method applied across five major cisternal compartments on non-contrast CT. While the eSAH score has shown promise in initial derivation studies, its external performance and calibration have not yet been validated across diverse healthcare settings. We conducted a retrospective cohort study using consecutive …

Wilhelm Von Humboldt And The Idea Of The Modern University: The Unity Of Bildung And Wissenschaft, Ken Udas Dec 2025

Wilhelm Von Humboldt And The Idea Of The Modern University: The Unity Of Bildung And Wissenschaft, Ken Udas

Graduate Masters Theses

Wilhelm von Humboldt and the Idea of the Modern University examines Wilhelm von Humboldt’s contribution to shaping a philosophical ideal that has profoundly influenced the concept and identity of the modern research university for over two centuries. It highlights Humboldt’s position as a key figure in the Prussian reform movement and as the founder of the University of Berlin. Specifically, it addresses a question raised in the late twentieth century as part of the Mythos Humboldt revision: why has the Humboldtian Ideal maintained such lasting influence over the German university system, even as its practical realities have increasingly strayed from …
