The Mental Health Mastermind: How Noah Kahan Reduces Stigma, Meghan Deeley Jan 2026

The Mental Health Mastermind: How Noah Kahan Reduces Stigma, Meghan Deeley

ENG 490 Senior Seminar Capstone

Mental health anti-stigma strategies have been largely studied; however, limited research examines how musicians integrate lyrics and marketing strategies to reduce mental health stigma. This study fills the gap by analyzing the work of Noah Kahan, whose cultural prominence places him as an influential individual in normalizing mental health discourse. Drawing on existing research in anti-stigma campaigns, social media storytelling, and lyrical analysis, this study examines The Busyhead Project Instagram content and “Stick Season” lyrics. Using qualitative methods, findings illustrate that Kahan's incorporation of open reading lyrics with contact-based content enhances effectiveness of anti-stigma messaging. This research is a framework …

The Effects Of Bilingual Services In Adaptively Leading Shared Parishes, John Patrick Cahill Jan 2026

The Effects Of Bilingual Services In Adaptively Leading Shared Parishes, John Patrick Cahill

Dissertations

Shared parishes are churches that have services in more than one language. Pastors struggle with how to lead, unify, and pastorally respond as populations shift and demographics change. One-third of the Catholic parishes in the United States have Mass in more than one language every Sunday. Leaders need to adapt by exploring bilingual services as a way to be more effective and inclusive. This descriptive quantitative study examined three blocks of parishioners at a particular shared parish: (a) those who attend Mass in English, (b) those who attend Mass in Spanish, and (c) those who attend the bilingual Mass. A …

Creating A Modern American Piano: Antecedent, Launch, And Reinvention Of Mason & Hamlin's Piano Line Through 1905, Arian Sheets Jan 2026

Creating A Modern American Piano: Antecedent, Launch, And Reinvention Of Mason & Hamlin's Piano Line Through 1905, Arian Sheets

Dissertations and Theses

The American piano industry was in a significant period of technical innovation, increased production, and standardization during the second half of the nineteenth century. This resulted in the American form of the instrument dominating the design and sound ideals still expected of the modern piano. Mason & Hamlin, a major reed organ company, entered the piano market in the early 1880s, relatively late compared to the largest, and most market-dominant companies, such as Steinway and Chickering. This thesis examines the origin and early implementation of the designs and innovations that have become standard for the modern American piano, and how …

Hunters Of Men: A Tribal Reading Of The Missiological Motif In Luke 5:1-11, Themshang Horam Jan 2026

Hunters Of Men: A Tribal Reading Of The Missiological Motif In Luke 5:1-11, Themshang Horam

The Asbury Journal

This article presents an intercultural and contextual reading of Luke 5:1–11 from the perspective of the Naga tribes of Northeast India, proposing a reinterpretation of the traditional “fishers of men” motif as “hunters of men.” Grounded in the author’s cultural context—where, owing to the absence of large water bodies, fishing serves as a secondary means of subsistence while hunting remains central to social and spiritual life— this study contends that biblical metaphors risk losing their theological depth and communicative efficacy when removed from the ecological and cultural frameworks of the receiving community. Through exegetical analysis and intercultural hermeneutics, the paper …

Toil And Quietus, Dylan Mitchell Jan 2026

Toil And Quietus, Dylan Mitchell

Dartmouth College Master’s Theses

The United States of America is haunted by its past. Be it the institution of slavery, the lack of gender equality, or the violent annexation of Native land, its ghosts are plentiful and undeniable. Still, though, questions of whether to venerate our nation’s history or condemn it pervade society. Now, then, is the time for the gothic.

For all of its existence, the gothic has served to shed light on the past, often casting on its dusty visage an ambivalence that weighs its good with its bad. Nowhere is this land more fertile than with American history, which is simultaneously …

Solving High-Dimensional Differential Equations Using Recurrent And Residual Neural Network Architectures, Hind Khaled Kolaib Jan 2026

Solving High-Dimensional Differential Equations Using Recurrent And Residual Neural Network Architectures, Hind Khaled Kolaib

Knowledge Engineering and Data Science

High-dimensional Partial Differential Equations (PDEs) form the foundation of complex process modeling in various scientific and engineering applications, including finance, physics, and optimal control. However, classical numerical methods are adversely affected by the curse of dimensionality, making them inapplicable for large-scale problems. Recently, however, deep learning-based approaches have provided a new toolbox for these high-dimensional PDEs, including methods such as the Deep Backward Stochastic Differential Equation (Deep BSDE) method. Our approach draws on a more sophisticated deep learning backbone, using neural networks (in our case, a Residual Neural Network and a Long Short-Term Memory network (LSTM) integrated into the Deep …

Elucidating The Results Of Multiple Linear Regression: A Systematic Literature Review And Monte Carlo Comparative Simulation Study Of Relative Importance Methodologies, Oscar Gaytan Jan 2026

Elucidating The Results Of Multiple Linear Regression: A Systematic Literature Review And Monte Carlo Comparative Simulation Study Of Relative Importance Methodologies, Oscar Gaytan

Human Resource Development Theses and Dissertations

Theory-supported multiple linear regression models are often formed to assess the impact of HR practices on organizational performance and other desired outcomes. Several methods are available to determine which predictors contribute most to said outcomes. However, researchers may make agential cuts in the method selection phase, with their histories, experiences, or perspectives on relative importance measures influencing their decisions. When multiple measures are employed, discordant results leave room for differing interpretations, potentially leading to suboptimal guidance. Correlation-Adjusted coRrelations (CAR) scores offer a unique alternative to established relative importance methodologies. However, a systematic literature review indicated that no large-scale comparison of …

A Longitudinal Study On The Impact Of Childhood Air Pollution Exposure On Adolescent Cognition, Emily K. Carter Jan 2026

A Longitudinal Study On The Impact Of Childhood Air Pollution Exposure On Adolescent Cognition, Emily K. Carter

Open Access Dissertations

About 2 in 5 Americans live in areas with unhealthy levels of air pollution. Poor air quality has been shown to lead to a diverse set of negative health that can affect the cardiovascular system and have downstream effects on brain structure and cognition. The detrimental impacts of air pollution on cognition have been widely studied, though due to methodological limitations in the available research, a direct association between air pollution exposure and cognitive development remains inconclusive and unclear. Further, studies in this area have largely focused on prenatal exposure and neurocognitive impacts during early childhood; the potential longer-term effects …

Religious Freedom, Jesuit Mission, And Dei, William M. Treanor, Amelia J. Uelmen Jan 2026

Religious Freedom, Jesuit Mission, And Dei, William M. Treanor, Amelia J. Uelmen

Georgetown Law Faculty Publications and Other Works

The ability of Jesuit educational institutions to pursue a central part of their mission – that of fostering diverse, equitable and inclusive educational environments – is under attack. This essay outlines several dimensions of their religiously-grounded mission and the reasons to strongly protect from government interference the rights of Jesuit universities to implement programs and practices that align with DEI values. First, for Jesuit universities, these programs and practices are rooted in a much deeper culture of the more than 2,000-year old Catholic intellectual tradition and the now 500-year old tradition of Jesuit spirituality. Second, drawing on the classic work …

Cold Comfort: Japan’S “Comfort Women” Litigation Under Transnational Law, Timothy Webster Jan 2026

Cold Comfort: Japan’S “Comfort Women” Litigation Under Transnational Law, Timothy Webster

Faculty Scholarship

Transnational human rights litigation has emerged as a powerful tool to remediate state and corporate abuses. Courts, however, rarely evince the same enthusiasm for these lawsuits as practitioners, scholars, and activists. For the past thirty-five years, “comfort women,” or survivors of wartime sexual exploitation, have used transnational litigation to seek redress from the Japanese government. Yet they have lost nearly all their cases. This Article uses ten “comfort women” lawsuits from Japan to test the limits of transnational human rights litigation. While judges rarely found for the comfort women, their verdicts nonetheless advanced the redress issue by showing the illegality …

Congolese Journalists: Professional Identity And Legitimacy, Hannah L. Heiskell Jan 2026

Congolese Journalists: Professional Identity And Legitimacy, Hannah L. Heiskell

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

This paper examines how Congolese journalists construct their professional identity

and legitimacy while working under conditions of conflict and state pressure, and how

international media outlets discursively represent them through Western journalistic norms.

Addressing previous research and centering local perspectives, this study uses critical

discourse analysis to compare language, framing, and narratives across Congolese and

international media texts, and the works in which they produce. Attention is given to how

agency, professionalism, and constraint are represented within each discourse. The analysis

focuses on metajournalistic discourse, or journalism talking about journalism, to examine

how professional norms and boundaries are articulated and …

Success Coaching And Conditional Admit Student Success, Zachery Oliver Thayer Jan 2026

Success Coaching And Conditional Admit Student Success, Zachery Oliver Thayer

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

Student success is a matter of critical importance to institutions of higher education, and to students. Colleges and universities exist in a current context of decreasing supply of potential students as a result of an impending demographic cliff and, therefore, increased competition for those remaining students, all while many institutions have become more tuition-dependent. This creates an incentive to decrease selectivity in order to meet enrollment goals as well as to focus university resources on student success measures that impact retention.  Some institutions have decreased selectivity to the point of admitting students conditionally or provisionally, even if those students do …

Jazz And Classical Form In Selected Movements Of Nikolai Kapustin's Eight Concert Etudes Opus 40, Hsiaofen Lin Jan 2026

Jazz And Classical Form In Selected Movements Of Nikolai Kapustin's Eight Concert Etudes Opus 40, Hsiaofen Lin

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

This research focuses on three etudes from Kapustin’s Eight Concert Etudes, Op. 40, offering analyses for “Prelude,” “Reverie,” and “Toccatina,” The analysis explores several interrelated issues: the extent to which jazz-derived formal structures may be discerned in Kapustin’s piano works beyond traditional classical models; the ways in which jazz structural frameworks interact with forms such as sonata, ternary, and through-composed designs; and the degree to which jazz formal procedures influence sectional organization, phrase structure, and large-scale form. A further concern is whether Kapustin’s use of jazz form serves merely as a stylistic reference or operates as a structurally determinative …

Creeping Alliances In Foreign Policy Choices: A World Of Clusters And The Outline Of A Fragmented World Order, Kerem Gülay Jan 2026

Creeping Alliances In Foreign Policy Choices: A World Of Clusters And The Outline Of A Fragmented World Order, Kerem Gülay

Case Western Reserve Journal of International Law

International cooperation and conflict has long been studied through formal institutions, namely, membership in international organizations and participation in bilateral or multilateral treaties. This hardly grasps the informal and contingent relationships and the tacit and pragmatic alliances reflected in countries’ joint positions on multilateral issues. While most theories of alliances were preoccupied with why such formal alliances were formed, this article offers a reconceptualization of international cooperation based on empirical data. It proposes “creeping alliances,” tentatively defined as gradual and often informal cooperation that develops over time characterized by increasing mutual foreign policy alignment, to explain an undertheorized domain of …

Equal-Access Extraction: Necessary Revisions To The Extent Of The 1920 Svalbard Treaty Due To Norway's Deep-Sea Mining Decision, Louden J. Keihl Jan 2026

Equal-Access Extraction: Necessary Revisions To The Extent Of The 1920 Svalbard Treaty Due To Norway's Deep-Sea Mining Decision, Louden J. Keihl

Case Western Reserve Journal of International Law

Svalbard’s 100-year-old governing treaty, the Svalbard Treaty, has been the cause of several disputes regarding its applicability to maritime zones not developed at the time of its negotiation. This Note argues that, considering Svalbard’s importance, the different treaty parties should renegotiate and revise the Svalbard Treaty to clarify ambiguities regarding its geographic scope. The reasons why the dispute has not been solved to date and the differing views on the Treaty’s geographic scope are also discussed. Potential clarifying language is proposed and analyzed. The Idea Of Air, Jonathan Skinner-Thompson Jan 2026

The Idea Of Air, Jonathan Skinner-Thompson

Utah Law Review

How we view air, especially clean air, has meaningful normative and practical implications. Today, it is commonly recognized as an exhaustible natural resource. But air was not always thought of as something to be conserved, developed, and used. This Article is the first to explore and interrogate that view. The shift to seeing air as a resource started in the first part of the twentieth century. Previously, air was characterized by its limitless supply of oxygen: a pure public good. Over time, the quality of that good changed, and a precious resource emerged. That resource—especially its chemical and physical characteristics—inspired …

Gorsuch’S Dissent And The Current State Of Navajo Water Rights Claims, William Clark Jan 2026

Gorsuch’S Dissent And The Current State Of Navajo Water Rights Claims, William Clark

Utah Law Review

Water rights have been a key feature of the Navajo Nation’s relationship with the United States. Since the time the Navajo were forcibly removed to the Bosque Redondo in the 1860s, the Tribe has fought for sufficient access to water. A key, but unfortunate, moment in this dispute came when the United States Supreme Court, in Arizona v. Navajo Nation, determined that the 1868 treaty between the United States and the Navajo Nation did not require the United States to take steps to secure water for the Tribe. The Navajo Nation is now on the cusp of settling its Colorado …

Intertidal Seagrass Meadows In South West England: The Ecology Of Expansion, Oliver Thomas Jan 2026

Intertidal Seagrass Meadows In South West England: The Ecology Of Expansion, Oliver Thomas

School of Biological and Marine Sciences Theses

Within the space of a decade, intertidal sediments in the Tamar estuary, South West England, have undergone a shift from unvegetated mudflats to dense perennial seagrass habitat. Yet despite the increasing prevalence of intertidal seagrass meadows in the South West, there are large knowledge gaps relating to intertidal meadow biodiversity, function and ecosystem service provision, particularly within the context of the estuarine meadows of the South West: as such we do not fully understand the implications of this recent colonisation within the Tamar. This study aims to characterise the spatial expansion of these newly-established Zostera marina meadows using Earth observation …

Impacts Of Microplastics In A Changing Agri-Environment, Riley Kent Jan 2026

Impacts Of Microplastics In A Changing Agri-Environment, Riley Kent

School of Biological and Marine Sciences Theses

Microplastics are increasingly recognized as persistent contaminants in terrestrial ecosystems, yet their impacts on plant performance remain poorly understood under realistic environmental conditions. In natural and agricultural systems, plants rarely encounter contaminants in isolation, instead experiencing multiple interacting stressors. The work presented in this thesis investigated how soil microplastics influence plant growth and physiology both independently and in combination with freshwater flooding, a climate-relevant stressor associated with increased storm activity and shifts in precipitation patterns. Using white clover (Trifolium repens) as a model agronomic legume across multiple cultivars, the study examined how polymer identity, plant genotype, and environmental context interact …

Application Of Coastal Change Management Areas (Ccmas) For Coastal Adaptation To Climate Change Impacts In Sw England, Josie-Alice Kirby Jan 2026

Application Of Coastal Change Management Areas (Ccmas) For Coastal Adaptation To Climate Change Impacts In Sw England, Josie-Alice Kirby

School of Biological and Marine Sciences Theses

Coastal Change Management Areas (CCMAs) were introduced into the English planning system in 2012 to enable anticipatory management of long-term coastal change. However, their implementation has been limited and inconsistent, reflecting uncertainty in how future shoreline change should be defined and translated into statutory planning boundaries. This thesis addresses the gap between national coastal adaptation policy and the scientific evidence required to support its practical application. The research combines policy analysis, geomorphological classification and probabilistic modelling to develop a structured framework for delineating areas of future coastal change. Chapter 2 evaluates the national implementation of CCMAs and demonstrates substantial variability in …
