Monstrous Women In Greek Mythology: Victims Of The Patriarchy, Savannah Watson, Savannah Watson

Integrated Studies

This paper is an exploration into the women of Greek mythology and how they are viewed through the eyes of the patriarchy within the original texts. The focus of the paper will be on the mythological women who are considered monsters, both in a physical and characteristic sense. The women-monster hybrids will include gorgons, nymphs, sirens, furies, harpies, and specific mythological women like Medusa, Medea, Circe, Lamia, Scylla will also be discussed. By learning about who these monstrous women are and finding out why they behave in the way they had to, the analysis will reveal how the real monster …

Uncovering The Mechanism Of Reep2-Mediated Emt-Driven Membrane Trafficking In Lung Adenocarcinoma, Kevin Fulp Jan 2026

Uncovering The Mechanism Of Reep2-Mediated Emt-Driven Membrane Trafficking In Lung Adenocarcinoma, Kevin Fulp

Theses and Dissertations--Toxicology and Cancer Biology

Membrane trafficking is frequently disrupted during cancer progression, and the underlying mechanisms remain largely unknown. Currently, no effective drugs target dysregulated membrane trafficking for cancer treatment. Recent evidence has demonstrated that epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) employs a membrane trafficking program to coordinate cancer cell invasion and immunosuppression. To further dissect the pro-tumorigenic membrane trafficking program, we initiated an in vivo CRISPRi screen to assess more than 2,000 membrane trafficking-related genes in a syngeneic mouse LUAD model. We identified REEP2, an endoplasmic reticulum (ER) shaping protein, as a novel regulator of EMT-driven membrane trafficking. High REEP2 expression is …

Reconstructing The Medieval Palette: Making Paints And Inks Using Medieval Recipes, Cael Sinclair Jan 2026

Reconstructing The Medieval Palette: Making Paints And Inks Using Medieval Recipes, Cael Sinclair

Graduate Research Posters

When considering the medieval period, most people imagine brilliantly painted and gilded manuscripts but not many people actually imagine the labor behind making those manuscripts. Similarly, modern perception of a scribe tends to be a single, solitary person slaving away at the entire manuscript. Contrary to these beliefs, the process of producing a manuscript was a highly collaborative and, more importantly, highly documented process. Throughout the period, numerous treatises (or handbooks) were created documenting instructions and advice for making ink and paint, for drawing and painting, and everything in between. While it is possible for one to just read these …

Religion Recovers Its History: The Court Puts The Establishment Clause On A New Path, Patrick M. Garry Jan 2026

Religion Recovers Its History: The Court Puts The Establishment Clause On A New Path, Patrick M. Garry

Missouri Law Review

For over a half-century, the First Amendment Establishment Clause jurisprudence was in disarray. Judicial decisions more often stemmed from social and cultural presumptions than from constitutional history. For years, if not decades, Supreme Court observers waited for a clarifying opinion on this troubled area of First Amendment law. In a 2022 decision upholding a football coach’s right to silently pray at mid-field after a game, the Court issued a momentous decision that not only overruled much of previous Establishment Clause jurisprudence but also suggested a new path forward. Given the Court’s desire to base future doctrines on the historical meaning …

No Thanks, Just Looking: A Post-Transunion Analysis Of Session-Replay Surveillance And Historical Privacy Harms, Maggie N. Munsterman Jan 2026

No Thanks, Just Looking: A Post-Transunion Analysis Of Session-Replay Surveillance And Historical Privacy Harms, Maggie N. Munsterman

Missouri Law Review

The constitutional doctrine of standing serves as a gateway to the federal courthouse, filtering out claims that lack a personal, concrete stake in the outcome. In privacy litigation, the alleged injuries may feel deeply personal but are often intangible and statutory. Amidst this tension, the injury-in-fact requirement of Article III has proven particularly thorny. The Supreme Court’s decisions in Spokeo, Inc. v. Robins and TransUnion LLC v. Ramirez set forth a framework requiring a “concrete” injury that bears a “close relationship” to harms traditionally recognized in American law. Yet, lower courts’ interpretation of this mandate varies considerably, especially in the …

Rates Of 30-Day Emergency Department Visits And Readmissions In Adults After Tracheostomy, Mckenna Gervais, Kayley Anderson, H. Nichols, Jana L. Wardian, Wesley Zeger, Benjamin Mcintire, Elizabeth Lyden, Jayme Dowdall Jan 2026

Rates Of 30-Day Emergency Department Visits And Readmissions In Adults After Tracheostomy, Mckenna Gervais, Kayley Anderson, H. Nichols, Jana L. Wardian, Wesley Zeger, Benjamin Mcintire, Elizabeth Lyden, Jayme Dowdall

Journal Articles: Hospital Medicine

OBJECTIVE: To quantify 30-day emergency department (ED) visits and hospital readmissions post-tracheostomy-distinguishing between tracheostomy and non-tracheostomy-related causes-and to identify revisit risk factors.

METHODS: Retrospective cohort study of adult patients undergoing all-cause tracheostomy within the system between April 1, 2018, and April 1, 2025. Electronic Medical Record review captured demographic variables, outcomes, and mortality. Fisher's exact test and Fine and Gray's subdistribution hazard modeling assessed associations with in-hospital death and risk of revisit.

RESULTS: Among 618 patients, 119/618 (19.3%) died prior to discharge. Of the 499 patients discharged alive, 23 (4.6%) died within 30 days, for a cumulative 30-day mortality of …

Shot Caller: The Weight Of The United States Sentencing Guidelines, Max Birmingham Jan 2026

Shot Caller: The Weight Of The United States Sentencing Guidelines, Max Birmingham

Western New England Law Review

The Federal Sentencing Guidelines have drawn ire, from attorneys to judges to scholars to commentators. The concern below is the deference afforded by courts to the United States Sentencing Commission, which consists of unelected officials. In United States v. Lewis, the First Circuit discerned that the Sentencing Commission is under the umbrella of the Judicial Branch. In turn, some judges are relinquishing their interpretive authority to the Sentencing Commission. Because they are viewed as part of the fabric of the judiciary, jurists may have a proclivity for adopting wholesale the Sentencing Commission’s ideas.

The Sentencing Commission has opined—i.e., “commentary”—that “conspiracy” …

Granting The High Seas Personhood And Quasi-State Status, Jennifer Bass Jan 2026

Granting The High Seas Personhood And Quasi-State Status, Jennifer Bass

Western New England Law Review

The Agreement on Marine Biological Diversity of Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction has now secured sufficient ratifications to enter into force. The enforcement mechanisms of the treaty could be strengthened to better protect biodiversity by granting the high seas personhood and providing the high seas quasi-statehood. The enforcement mechanism would be through the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea’s (UNCLOS) International Tribunal of the Sea. Specifically, enforcement could be strengthened by working with other entities such as Regional Fisheries Management Organizations (RFMOs), the Fish Stocks Agreement, and the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna …

The Ones Who Watched: Technology, Proxy Warfare, And The Testing Ground Hypothesis, Sean J. Oliver Jan 2026

The Ones Who Watched: Technology, Proxy Warfare, And The Testing Ground Hypothesis, Sean J. Oliver

Graduate Theses/Dissertations

Great powers need laboratories for war. This thesis argues that great powers find these laboratories in proxy forces. Proxy warfare is not just a tool for strategic influence. It is a machine for experimentation. This study posits a central testing-ground hypothesis. It contends that great powers deliberately use surrogates to vet emerging technologies, doctrines, and mobilization schemes under the pressure of real combat. The analytical methodology is historical. It traces patterns from the ancient world's proxy forces and the innovations of the Crusades to the Cold War and the digital age. The thesis examines enduring patterns, including the tension between …

Back Burner, Olga Jocelyn Shute Jan 2026

Back Burner, Olga Jocelyn Shute

Graduate Theses/Dissertations

As a first-generation Mexican American, I look for alternative sources of inspiration through spiritual practices and postcolonial artwork that predate American modern/contemporary art. People of color in the US are categorized by words like Latin X, first, second, or third generation, Mexican American, and so on. In searching for my own identity, I question the verbiage that places constrictions over my body, soul, and life experiences. Compared to its pre-declaration of the lands, the United States' 250-year history is rather short. Looking at a portion of my cultural heritage, I associate dogs, jewelry, and maize with tradition, power, and spiritual …

The Monstrosity Of “Deor”: Apophasis In Character And Form, Ada Smith Jan 2026

The Monstrosity Of “Deor”: Apophasis In Character And Form, Ada Smith

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

T. A. Shippey once referred to “Deor” as “that most perfect of Old English poems.” And indeed, the poem cannot help but inspire the reader to deep contemplation, even as it baffles scholars in so many ways. From its rare stanzaic structure to its anomalous refrain—“þæs ofer eode þisses swa mæg”—the elegy has inspired much debate within the scholarship. In fact, one of the few agreements among the scholars of “Deor” is the poem’s capacity to undermine all interpretations. The poem has the remarkable quality of mentioning many well-known legendary and historical figures while, at the same time, denying the …

Cyber Security Related To Agricultural Data Encryption Using Edge Computing Devices, Mohammad Ashik Alahe Jan 2026

Cyber Security Related To Agricultural Data Encryption Using Edge Computing Devices, Mohammad Ashik Alahe

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Smart Agriculture increasingly relies on image-based sensing, edge computing, and artificial intelligence to support data-driven decision-making in modern farming systems. While these technologies improve productivity and resource efficiency, they also introduce significant cybersecurity risks, particularly agricultural images transmitted and processed in real-time on resource-constrained edge devices. Unauthorized access, data manipulation, and interception of image data can lead to incorrect agronomic decisions and severe economic consequences. Despite this risk, efficient and practical cybersecurity solutions for real-time agricultural imaging remain limited. This study addresses these challenges by developing and evaluating encryption-based cybersecurity frameworks tailored for real-time agricultural image protection on edge computing …

Promoting Postpartum Maternal Self-Efficacy Through Prenatal Pelvic Floor Health And Sensory Modulation Education, Cate Smith Jan 2026

Promoting Postpartum Maternal Self-Efficacy Through Prenatal Pelvic Floor Health And Sensory Modulation Education, Cate Smith

Occupational Therapy | OTD Capstone Projects

Pelvic floor therapy, also called pelvic floor health care, is an emerging field for occupational therapy practitioners. Pelvic floor dysfunction (PFD) is a common health outcome after pregnancy and childbirth. Although most women receive consistent prenatal health care, they do not receive the education they need to manage symptoms of PFD such as incontinence, pain, and sensory dysregulation during the postpartum period. Occupational therapy can play a meaningful role in educating and supporting women during the prenatal period, postpartum healing, and role acquisition. This doctoral capstone project researched educational strategies to improve self-efficacy among perinatal women. Albert Bandura defines self-efficacy …

Strengthening Communication And Collaboration Between The Student Support Triad (Teachers, Caregivers, And Health Professionals) In Schools, Jasmine E. Henley Jan 2026

Strengthening Communication And Collaboration Between The Student Support Triad (Teachers, Caregivers, And Health Professionals) In Schools, Jasmine E. Henley

Occupational Therapy | OTD Capstone Projects

Teachers, caregivers, and health professionals, who are key stakeholders that form a student support triad, each face a range of challenges and barriers that impact their ability to communicate and collaborate with one another, therefore impacting the student and their ability to access and participate in meaningful occupations. Though these challenges and barriers for each stakeholder are well-documented individually, there is limited evidence on solutions to strengthen communication across the triad and solutions that center the student and their engagement in meaningful occupations. This project aims to bridge this gap, despite the greater systemic barriers, by developing remedial solutions that …

Challenging Stem Learning Spaces: The Paradigm Of Contemplative Traditions As The Bedrock Of Creativity And Healing, Raaghav Pandya, Christopher Emdin Jan 2026

Challenging Stem Learning Spaces: The Paradigm Of Contemplative Traditions As The Bedrock Of Creativity And Healing, Raaghav Pandya, Christopher Emdin

Publications and Research

As the post-pandemic classroom and pedagogy evolve to remedy oppressive norms, young people’s mental health and alienation has taken front stage (Rahmani & Zitouni, 2022). Traditional STEM learning spaces often teach inquiry as a linear, non-deviated approach to problems about self and nature (Hrisa & Psillos, 2022). Furthermore, because our classrooms often strip students and educators of their inherent creative abilities through constant assessments, improvement scales, and market-driven expectations, classrooms cease to become places of healing (Pandya, 2021). Eastern wisdom traditions and their associated philosophies provide a unique pedagogical lens that emphasizes a deep inquiry into self, empathy, and creativity …

Ancient Wisdom & Its Cultural Relevance: Reimagining Deeper Learning In Science Classrooms Through The Lens Of Yoga And Vedānta, Raaghav Pandya Jan 2026

Ancient Wisdom & Its Cultural Relevance: Reimagining Deeper Learning In Science Classrooms Through The Lens Of Yoga And Vedānta, Raaghav Pandya

Publications and Research

Contemporary calls to reconceptualize how science is taught and understood have brought deeper learning to the forefront of education at-large for its emphasis on critical perspectives, creativity, and student-centered inquiry. Yet this paper argues that its prevailing framework remains constrained by Cartesian dualism, a materialist foundation that disassociates the individual from self, other, and nature, and falls short of addressing the mental health, environmental, and cultural challenges facing youth today. To address this limitation, this paper proposes a complementary convergence between deeper learning and the contemplative traditions of Yoga and Vedānta, whose ancient paradigms of self-inquiry, interconnectedness, and well-being offer …

A Brief Measure Of Decisional Balance For Health Equity Engagement Among Health Professionals, Amanda Lee Almond Jan 2026

A Brief Measure Of Decisional Balance For Health Equity Engagement Among Health Professionals, Amanda Lee Almond

Publications and Research

Racial health and healthcare inequities are sustained in part by health professionals’ beliefs about the benefits and costs of equity-focused action, yet no validated decisional balance measure exists for this domain. This study introduces and evaluates the Health Equity Decisional Balance (HEDB) scale. Eighty-eight health professionals completed the scale of ten proposed items assessing perceived pros and cons of engaging with health and healthcare equity work, along with a measure of Anti-Racist Efficacy (ARE) (Eschmann et al., 2023). Confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling were used to test the latent structure of the scale and its predictive validity. A …

Baking In The Disposition: The Wac/Wid World Through Translational Lenses, Joseph Franklin Jan 2026

Baking In The Disposition: The Wac/Wid World Through Translational Lenses, Joseph Franklin

Publications and Research

In a global perspective for WAC and other writing programs, the singular identifier of the nation still holds a dominance in articles, books, and conference presentations. But, how we understand relationships between different programs on the global writing studies map often demands a more nuanced unpacking than stable nation-markers can offer. Jonathan Hall (2023) calls us to take up “thinking with trans-” in WAC (p. 13). This chapter answers this call first by locating different pieces of global writing program scholarship along a spectrum from those that aim to establish a single, stable identity for a particular (often national) writing …

A Poor Man's Cup: Chicory Experimentation In Nebraska,1890-1900, Rebecca Hupp Jan 2026

A Poor Man's Cup: Chicory Experimentation In Nebraska,1890-1900, Rebecca Hupp

Dissertations and Theses

“A Poor Man’s Cup” explores how Nebraskans actively confronted the problems of the late nineteenth-century through experimenting with new commodities. Prolonged severe drought, economic depression, and poor grain prices created a troublesome situation that grew in complexity as U.S. markets expanded globally and agriculture underwent professionalization. Some lay farmers, like Gabriel and Philomena Bazelman of Holt County, did not wait for new methods to find their way through the experiment station system and instead conducted trials themselves. Through piecing together the story of Nebraska chicory production with periodicals from the 1890s, experiment station bulletins, and Congressional reports, this thesis demonstrates …

Exploring The Role Of Pleasure In Cognitive Tasks, Nafisa Kazi Iqbal Jan 2026

Exploring The Role Of Pleasure In Cognitive Tasks, Nafisa Kazi Iqbal

Dissertations and Theses

The present study investigates whether the experience of a pleasant-valenced physical stimulus will positively influence performance on a cognitive task. The concept of hedonics is explored as hedonic responses, emotional reactions to stimuli involving feelings of pleasure and displeasure, play a crucial role in various psychological processes. There is a limited amount of literature regarding pleasant smell and its impact on the performance of cognitive tasks. The reported study addresses this limitation by comparing Stroop task performance of participants in two conditions, pleasant scent and neutral scent. These findings add to our understanding of the impact of pleasant smell on …
